Well kind of - the school that the K-ON! girls attend is said to be based on the Toyosato Elementary School in the Shiga Prefecture.
The new report below shows how the school has become a sacred place for K-ON! fans from all over the world. Have a look at the schools home page too for more photos.

      I'm just taking a guess here (anyone is more than welcome to correct me if I'm wrong), but they were planning on tearing down the school since it was just so old, but the town's residents did not like the idea and wanted to keep the school in its original state. I'm guessing that the woman who got knocked over was one of the protesters (still can't tell how she was knocked down).

      Hope this helps!

          Yea, I did some additional research and the mayor of the town wanted to tear down the building. Instead, money was put into preserving the building and doing renovations, as well as making sure it was up to current structure standards (earthquake safe, for one).

    I like the interior design of the school with a modern design and a blend of western architecture.

    An ugly cross dresser indeed!

    Wow, didn't know about this particular anime pilgrimage. Thanks for the heads up!

    Even though I go on these as a kind of hobby, I get very nervous about taking lots of photos outside of schools. That's why I have not yet gone on the Haruhi and Clannad pilgrimages. Can read the headlines now. US Sailor was turned over to CFAY authorities for trespassing and taking photos of little girls at a elementry school in Shiga prefecture today. ^^;;;

    Might pass on this one. ^^;;

    Is the school still being used? I didn't see any student activity in those videos.

    While it would be cool to go there, and I know I will, I do feel bad for disrupting an elementary school's functions, plus should they really allow middle aged cross-playing otakus in there
