I don't think doll bodies get more articulate than this - the S.F.B.T (Special Fullaction Body Type) also called "Safbit."

Img ID#85063 | New tab | Share this image | Mouseover = load notes.
Doll Body

The 1/6 scale Safbit is made up from 206 parts and has 80 joints to enable accurate human poses.

If you want one then you will have to fork out 18,000 yen for it next year where they will start to accept orders from Feb. This page has an address where you should send your address details and wot not. Not sure if they accept orders from overseas.

Would probably look great is sprayed in metallic silver. Folks who keep their 1/6 scale dolls dressed up most of the time anyway may be interested.

Not sure if I would want a Dollfie sized one though.

Would absolutely love one of those for art references, but oh the price... Still, the ultimate doll reference.

Beats those little wooden guys by a long shot. I always debate getting one when I'm at the Arts and Crafts stores... but I just don't like how limited they are. No where near as articulate as this doll, right down to fingers AND toe placement.

It does look like the makings of the muscles...This would be good if someone wired some electronics in it and allowed for it to move from some programming... Definitely wouldn't mind having one of these for reference though...or for having a somewhat robot looking figure...XD

That's actually pretty darn cool, once you get past the initial 'uncanny valley' sensation. Actually, one of these would be pretty handy for art - you could pose her as you'd see fit! Much, much better than those simple wooden mannequins they sell in art supply stores. Of course, there -is- the price tag to worry about, but can't win 'em all.

It may not be as aesthetically pleasing as other dolls, but it's really impressive from a technical standpoint. Those poses look great. A bit expensive to be used as an artist's tool though, and the face sculpting might have to be improved a bit to use her as a doll for display.

In 1995 an exhibition titled "Body World" was presented in Tokyo - don't know where, the "artist" was Gunther von Hagens, who had developed a method for preserving the human body - his work was created from real human cadavers, showing muscles, etc. von Hagens developed the process in the 1970's. 8O

Definite want. As well as being extremely useful for art/drawing like people have said before. I don't buy any figures very often but this is something i must have a look at. Just that pesky fact of no overseas delivery. Well let's hope for a giveaway, even if it isn't likely.

It would look a lot better with some kind of flexible skin covering up those inner works. All those sharp edges don't make it very pretty, so if it goes on the market like this I wouldn't buy it.

Now they just need to make some sorta soft skin cover over these articulations. Maybe in a few years time there will be dolls even larger than dollfies with these sorta articulations but covered with some sorta layer to hide these hideous joints.

We had a discussion on this figure on onesixthwarriors (obviously)--while it's nice, aside from the price tag, not many of us 1/6 guys will want one, unless they release it in Gunmetal/steel colors. Those joints give it great poseability, but also make it seem wasteful to cover it up -completely- with gear and clothing. Not to mention, I'm worried that clothing will just limit the figure's movements, so the poseability with clothes on may not be all that different from a standard Hot Toys or orth high-end 1/6 action figure.

In fact, this figure might work well as a Ghost in the Shell or Appleseed-inspired cyborg; i.e. wearing military clothing, but with enough body parts exposed to show the mechanical aspect of the doll.

Price is a factor, but if I were a serious artist I wouldn't think twice about it as the return on investment would be worth it, especially when you consider the amount of time spent on looking for references =/
The amount spent on it would be earned back in a few commissions, depending on the quality and popularity of your work.

Not strange its expensive. They have to focus on some body characteristics to imitate a human body. The next step will be the face. They are going to use those memory materials and a connection with a PC, via USB (or WiFi or Bluetooth). -_- Reminds me of Hand Maid May. (Sad future if its like that).

Those hands and feet would probably go really well with an Obitsu body or something. The less hand-swapping, the better. Other than that, it would be better off with a silicon skin layer.

Well now that is very slick actually.. good engineering went into it, you can tell.. and lots of study of how the body's joints and muscle works together.

I can't say I wouldn't want one for my Dollfies, it would be pretty neat.. as long as they found a covering for it that could replicate skin to a degree.. have stretch.. but no tearing.

This just reminds me of Motoko Kusanagi's android body from Ghost In the Shell. Or the character from Shirow Masamune's Black magic

  • I just can't believe she's only 1/6 scale. She has so many tiny pieces!! She's absolutly a piece of art and great poser dollies are awesome, but personaly I prefer a more simple, pretty and bad poser doll than a weird and sometimes ugly wonderful poser. I'm more classical in that sense, I'm a sucker for more classical joints.

This is REALLY good for an artist who can't get a woman to pose for his sketching practice. Also, I imagine one could put a thin layer of clay or latex on the outside to produce a skin.

while brilliant and incredibly articulate but I can't help but think that this will be the skeleton base for the next female terminator. >_<

Still I would be willing to pay that amount, imagine the photo experience I could conduct with this!

Perhaps one day they will have some type of skin for it. As of right now it's very robotic looking and almost as if a body was skinned...

    WOW.

Now THIS is something I can get excited about. I'm an action figure kind of guy, so this is right up my alley. Danny, I like your idea about the metallic paint. Customization of these things could be amazing. I would love to boil that thing and disassemble it to examine all the joints. Then I'd dye it all black and airbrush on some metallics on top of that. The price is way too high, but this is a specialty item I may have to shell out for. The problem is, I'm in New Jersey. Maybe I can get some help acquiring one from Japan in 2010. No clothes would go on mine, though. I would want to display all that amazing engineering. Great stuff.

This is the closest articulation I ever seen, must had taken research from human muscle movements.

This is great for drawing references. Really Nice doll, it can help 3d sculpting too. ^^

Think I have to start saving my money if I want one of these dolls.

I think it would be great as a pose model for an artist, or repainted to be an android, other wise I would want to see some cool outfits / body suits and gear.

The work put into this body is astounding! I am very interested in getting one so after running the website through a few translators and emailing the company they told me that they would not sell her to people overseas :( Im not very confident that her look will win over many American hearts though, so it seems she will be a tough one to find

This is almost perfect, im thinking if some manufacturer makes a silicon skin for this skeleton to hide the articulation will became the beginning of the second age of dollfie.
