Wendy's Japan

By the end of the year Wendy's will be no more as all 71 stores across Japan will close.
The report at AP writes how Wendy's severed the agreement with franchise holder Zensho but the news report below says that Zensho decided not to renew the agreement - interesting how the media can choose to take sides on telling a story.
Zensho saying "We've had enough of the burger business" and Wendy's saying "You guys done a lousy job in japan - we're looking for other partners" are two different stories.

Wendy's Japan

There are not many Burger Kings in Japan but I would probably eat more burgers if there was. The Mc Dee beef burgers taste like the hide on a baboons bottom so I usually have their other burgers like prawn and chicken.

It's still kicking in Malang. Only 1 outlet here though. I like Burger King best, but it haven't entered East Java market. Wendy's will have to do, definitely 2nd best!!!

Danny's food list in Singapore is nothing compared to what we can found in Indonesia

Yes, IN-N-OUT is quite the burger place. I wonder if Danny has had one before. It's rather tasty considering that it isn't all that fancy like other burgers from the other chains.

Wendy's reopening in Singapore at Lau Pa Sat (where Danny had one of his dinner on AFA duty) ... plans are afoot to open more. Dun think they will do that well as I think the burger business is too saturated in this tiny red dot IMHO.

I think each chain has its specific best-foot-forward burger. For us here in the Philippines, it would be the various Whoppers at BK, the Big Mac at McD's, and the various big burger types at Wendy's.

For me I like Wendy's best because I can eat so many things on their menu - that and I'm a big fan of their Frostee soft-serve ice cream. If there was a branch near my office, I'd probably eat there a lot :) I'm glad they're going strong here, no intentions of closing down.

Uhhh, no. Wendy's here is actually Wendy's Supa Sundaes, founded in South Australia. It's not related in any way to the American company. Common mistake, though. I wouldn't have known either if an American friend hadn't asked me about it a few years ago!

lol only their non beef burgers are nuked in the microwave. but their buns are provided by tip top, who also provide the buns to maccas. but HJs burgars are very sloppy though. but with maccas, they dont premake their burgars. its all made on order to meet food standards instead of premaking it and leaving it on the heat shelves for 45 mins before throwing them out

I worked at a Wendy's as my first job, and worked there for like 2 and a half years. Needless to say, I have a bias on Wendy's products as a result. I'm not a burger fan at all, but I prefer Wendy's burgers. Their chili is awesome! Love it!

Here in Taiwan there's really a lot of different chain-stores selling burgers, lot's of which I've never seen before, but then again, I've been living in Denmark all my life and that's (luckily) not the most favored target for such companies.
I can accept Mosburger over here, but I'm not fond of burgers and cannot enter a mcd for pseudoreligious reasons.

BK is overly priced, but the taste is just wonderful.

In Brazil the best Burger Franchise is X-Picanha definetily, if anyone comes to Brazil, get into one of these and ask for a Big X-picanha, and prepore your stomach for a huge amount of meat.

haven't touched McD's in about 4 or 5 years now, not gonna start anytime soon...
same goes for BK and other fast food joints, i did have Wendy's like 1 or 2 years back once? but not since, and only cause there was nothing else at the time, didn't really have a choice...

If i have a burger, it'd be at a real restaurant, not a fast food joint

When i was still a chibi-Tami (about 5-7y old) i was always keen on geting a McD's burger when we were in the town.

However, nowdays McD's is only an emergency solution for me... i need to be starving really badly to eat something there... sometimes i feel slightly sick after eating there (except ice cream ofc ^^;)

Burger King is my first choise in case of burgers noways and i guess it won't change anytime soon.

If given the choice between burger places I would get burgers from Wendy's (be sure to ask for packets of chili sauce, it sounds gross but tastes all kinds of crazy-sexy-awesome,) fries from Burger King, and about a trillion Chicken McNuggets from McDonalds. I don't know why I love those things, but i do!

We don't have Wendy's in HK, but where I call Home(Canada), we do, and I refuse to eat BK there, cause Wendy's is so much better. Still, my burger chain of choice is Fat Burger. I've heard good things about "In and Out", but never been to one, so I wouldn't know...

Of course, every chain could have a slightly different flavor depending on which country you're having it from... Cept McDees... The same nostalgically cardboard-like texture/flavor world wide~

Those mentioning MOS Burger, IMO, they don't make burgers either. They make ground beef sandwiches. They're a definate option if you want something different, but they do NOT do burgers.

If I am given the choice between McDonald's, Burger King, and Wendy's, I'll choose Wendy's every time... in the US.

I've been to Burger King and McDonald's in several Latin American countries, and thus far I'm far more partial to McDonald's. I find that ironic considering that I find it nigh-inedible in the US.

I've never seen a Wendy's overseas, though. I was so looking forward to Wendy's in Japan, but I suppose that dream may not come true.

London used to have Wendy's and their burgers were the best in comparison to Burger King and McDonalds. Now that Wendy's has been gone from London for many years, I'm left with Burger King, KFC and McDonalds from the big fast food chains pretty close to where I live. Excluding KFC, I rank Burger King above McDonalds.

When I'm in the West I don't mind Wendy's so much. Compared to its competition, the place is pretty decent. However, when in Japan, it's up against the likes of Mos Burger, Lotteria, and McDonald's Japan, all of which are significantly better. I can see why Wendy's was having some difficulty in the region.

I think my tastedbuds are kinda screwed for fast food, because I can't really tell which I like the most.
I don't have much contact with Wendy's, but I do like both Burger King, McDonald's and Bobs (the last one I think is a brazillian chain which works on the same fast food model).

Don't eat much in those though, not because I don't like, but because I know it's not very healthy.

I can't vote as I don't know what Wendy's taste like. Between Burger King and McD's, I prefer McD's. But again, Burger King fast foods came to the Czech Republic only about half a year ago, and I haven't eaten there yet. I was in Burger King when I was in UK, and frankly, it tasted so bad that I didn't even finish it. The fries were the worst part. I wasn't the only one. None of my friends - they were all Czech - liked the food there in particular. I have got the feeling that fries, and maybe also burgers, have a bit different taste in some countries. I base my opinion on the fact that I didn't really like the fries in McDonald's in UK either, but I love them in my country. So the fries in UK probably differ in taste from those in the Czech Republic. I wonder if anyone else has noticed any difference in McD's fries in different countries.

My fav food in McDonald's are fries, Fruit Pie, McFlurry, and McSundae. I don't really like their burgers. When I want a burger, I go to KFC.

Weird, I haven't tried BK for a while, but didn't like it some 6 years ago.
Course, I'd say Carl's Jr for a chain store, or In 'n Out for just any burger joint.

We only have McDonald's here and a couple of similar Finnish restaurants. I'm happy with McDonald's, though sometimes I'd like to see a bit better service. Sometimes I don't get what I ordered and once the was a guy who didn't understand Finnish. But usually everything is okay. Wendy's has never been here and Burger King left Finland in the late 80s, if I remember correctly. Actually it was exactly 25 years ago when the first McDonald's was opened in Finland.

@Poll: Burger King, as I've been eating them more nowadays than others.

I've definitely came across more BK's and McD's than Wendy's over here, but Wendy's provides better food quality-wise imo (love their budget chili and bake potatoes :3).

The choices we have here are mostly the Dees, Aporto, a few Hungry Jacks (haven't seen one for ages though) and I'm not sure there are any Burger Kings even left! I haven't been to one in Australia for years.

I have to say, the one time I ate at Wendy's in Japan, it was EXACTLY the same quality as in the U.S. EXACTLY. Can't say the same for McDonald's in Japan with their egg burgers and the like. I'm not taking a side because there is undoubtedly a lot that is unknown to the general public regarding this situation. But if Wendy's is claiming that the Japanese aren't doing it right, I have to differ with that position.

Most snack bars and cafes here in Australia serve infinitely better burgers than anything the franchises can put out. INCLUDING the overhyped Angus Beef burgers. I usually only eat at McDonalds or Hungry Jack's (Burger King) here in if I need food and don't have time (and don't care about the taste).

There's no Wendy's here in Oz, but we had them in the Philippines. And I only ever went to Wendy's for their Baked Potatoes--they were actual fist-sized potatoes, as opposed to the marbles that Filipino supermarkets usually sold.

Same with me. I also do not eat beef.

    But:
McD's burger is still quite ok in Singapore but the quality had drop a lot in Malaysia. Love the latest McD burger called Teppanyaki Chicken Burger. Feel like eating Spicy Chicken McDeluxe burger again the best burger in McD.
BK is not that good as there are few variety for me to eat as most of them serve beef burger. Still the grill chicken mushroom burger is still the best in BK for non-beef burger.
Zinger fish burger is also not bad at all in KFC but really hate KFC as their advertisement is very misleading. Don't ever go to KFC if you see nice advertisement from them as the things they give are always very small. This is true in Malaysia.
I also feel like eating rice burger in MOS burger as their rice burger is one of the best in Singapore.
I am now the biggest fans of Subway burger. They are the burgers where you can put as much as vegetable into it.
Haven't really try Wendy's burger but will try to look for it in Singapore.

I dunno if it was because MOS Burger was overly hyped up to me by my friends... but I was disappointed. It wasn't horrible, but I don't think I would eat there again on my next trip. I can even say that I was annoyed afterward because eating at MOS Burger meant it was one less yummy meal to be had somewhere else during my limited stay in Tokyo. >_<

I'm more of a McDonalds guy anyways. But a teriyaki burger sounds amazing ... Then again, I could make one at work ...

    Sushi restaurants FTW! :]

Another burger I tried is called "MarryBown". Their burger is not that good at all.

Don't ever try "Ramlee" burger as their burger is unhygienic.

The burgers in your area must be better than here. McDonald and Burger King makes me feel queasy. Wendy's the only one that I really like since it is really fresh. Jack in the Box is also great too.

    Dreamer, does that work?

I used to like McDonald's food ages ago. Then one day on a trip down to a semi local anime shop in the next state over went through the drive thru ordering a quarter pounder with cheese, large fry, large coke. Once I got on the highway I began to eat. First thing I noticed was the meat was way off on one side of the burger, took a few more bites... no beef. The patty was missing. So I ate the bun, them moved onto the fries. They smelled like all the gym lockers in the world when up close to my nose. Those went out the window. The coke... was the last straw. All fizz, no flavor.

I've since changed to Burger King, I LOVE their chicken fries with barbecue sauce. ^^

As for Wendy's I only eat from them if there's no Burger King around.
