Japan Fire Safety

Interesting to see that the live action Dragonball is being used to promote fire and smoke detectors by the Tokyo Fire Department.
By next April 1st, all households in Japan are required by law to install fire and smoke detectors. There have even been campaigns where the fire department have been handing out for free at the local shotengai.
We don't have any yet but will fit them in before April. Do you have fire and smoke detectors installed at home?
The Japanese word for fire and smoke detectors is Kasai Keihou Ki [火災警報器[かさいけいほうき]].
If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

In canada, we are required by law to have fire alarms/smoke detectors. It saves lives, and this should have been enforced by law in Japan a long time ago.
Get some soon Danny, they really help.

same in Arizona its required by law, and you can call the fire department to set it up for you. put that fire alarm is so calm here in Arizona its insainly loud, and i have slept through 4 fire alarms going off because of fires hahahaha
University's Slave
Of course, in Arizona you *really* need detectors and other fire danger awareness seeing as the whole state's basically a tinderbox most of the time. . . It's why there's those fire danger signs along all the highways, in theory so smokers don't toss still-lit cigarettes out the window, since just one would make whole acres ignite. Though when you drive by Sunset Point you kind of wonder if it's effective or not.

same in california and indonesia, you see all the wildfires we get bahhhhhh!!!!!!!! but my alarms go off for emergency test once a year too and it sucks!

Pretty funny to hear a Japanese smoke detector. Nice difference from the familiar "WUAAAAAAGH! NYAAAAAAAAUGH!! FUWAAAAAAAAAGH!!!"
Although I don't think I'll be able to wake up to it...
Student, leetNEET.
I do hope the detectors are louder compared to commercial. Otherwise, probably not gonna help that much at all.

Seriously, this is one time that the Japanese have to be less polite than usual. I wonder if this law took so long to pass because implementing a *talking* smoke detector was technologically difficult before.
Although I do find the polite ambulances and garbage trucks quite endearing.
Studnet
hahaha i was thinking the same thing. the smoke alarms here in NZ are hear piercing loud. but then again we dont have one in every room. mainly in the hall and kitchen area or were ever theres a high fire hazard.

In New Zealand pretty much everywhere has smore and/or fire alarms. For me they always go off when i'm making toast but never when I'm burning dinner :3
Art/Music Student
Adding to that (i am from NZ too), they aren't required by law (yet) even though they are almost everywhere.

Well, they have a control of how much smoke the machine need to activate. It was funny because you even have one of these inside the wardrobe too. But you can't have on the toilet.
Student
thats an interesting ring, although i'm not sure how effective it is to wake me up >.>. you really need something earpiercingly loud

better to be jolted out of bed by an overly loud and rude fire alarm than to die in a fire.
unemployed machinist.. yeah
Fire alarms, and smoke detectors are required by law here in Ohio. And its a good idea to have a carbon monoxide detector..especially now.. since most people in the northern hemisphere have their furnaces or heaters running. which can potentially lead to the risk of having a lethal non coloured, non smelling gas invade your home.
More people die from carbon monoxide leaks then fires every year. something to think about.

We've had a fire and smoke detector in our house since I can remember, so its probably required by law here. Last year when my old computer exploded, after I got myself a new PSU that blew up I had to fit a smoke detector in my room out of paranoia.

When mine is low on batteries, it makes this really annoying sound. And it always seems to happen when everyone is sleeping. So i ripped it off the ceiling. I'll put it back on soon.

Like someone said before it's required by law in Canada, we have to have one installed on each floor. It goes off when we accidentally burn food or if a toast burns in the toaster, or when the shower upstairs get too steamy, it's really loud XD.

Well there's also that commercial, either for Canadian Tire or Home Hardware, where they show the smoke alarm was set off by burnt food and then this kid turns it off with a remote control.

and then people will be frantically trying to find a stick, a chair or something to fan the smoke away from the detector... LOL

In Australia are required by law to install smoke detectors in homes... Australia is a fire-prone country, and we get seasonal fires which burn out of control for several weeks. That reminds me, it's that same time of the year, when fire season begins.

It's by law, eh? I should have known that, but didn't >.<
I guess it seems obvious because of the bush fires.

lol dragonball to promote fire and smoke detectors? Pretty funny. Yea, it is required by the laws to have those installed at your house or it would be a big trouble with the law if it isn't. I think it is a great way to ensure safety in houses.
Student
"Do you have fire and smoke detectors installed at home?"
Yep, smoke detectors at home are mandatory here.

We don't have one back in Hong Kong, but I'd love one of those! Hahaha, it even talks to you. Love it.

like the previosu one where they used wolverine?

nope, no fire/smoke detectors at home. I guess it would be a good idea to get some though...oh and that movie was horrible. Akira Tomiyama frowns upon this film. (-_-)

I'm not sure if we're required to by law here... I think we are though.
We have two, one upstairs and one downstairs. The most annoying thing is that the steam from the bathroom can set one of them off sometimes. It's the worst beeping, screeching, deafening noise you'll ever hear. I like the one in the video above better, lol.

Ha! That smoke detector talks to you when there is a fire, what a great idea! My smoke detector just makes horrible shreiking sounds whenever i make toast or mow the lawn with my old 2 stroke mower.
No wonder people in Japan aren't big on smoke detectors if they are using Dragonball Evolution to promote them. That movie was really bad. Really, really bad. I suffered temporary blindness and deafness 30 minutes into the film it was so bad.

From what I know Malaysia does not require citizen to install fire alarm in their residential however it would be a good start to do so if require by law.
My house don't even have a smoke detector nor alarm install. I think it should not be a problem since most of my family members are light sleeper but I beg to differ as I will sleep like a dead pig.

That was interesting. We've had fire detectors for a very long time now, though we may need to replace them soon.

Not sure if advertising with Dragon Ball Evolution was a good idea, that movie was a disaster..

Where I am from, there are fire alarms everywhere. I am not sure they required but they are almost everywhere. I laughed at the Japanese fire alarm. Needs to have somebody like Akira-sama from Lucky Channel yelling at you ;p

What better way to support smoke alarms than by using a guy who shoots fire from his hands.
Customer support/Evil Mastermind
I believe it's mandatory here, they are pretty much everywhere. Not 100% sure though. Although... really... that is one wussy alarm from the Japanese smoke detector. The one I've got in my living room can most probably wake the dead... and possibly me when I'm deep asleep as well. But I'd much rather have that than say... dying in a fire. O_o

Fire and detectors are standard issue in homes in Florida, I am assuming that builders are required to install it into homes or businesses.

Smoke dectors are sort of a nobrainer here in the US. Certainly in all homes and a must in businesses. The noise it makes when it goes off is usually ear piercing irritating and some beep when power is running low but I once watched a program which discussed how some children will just sleep through the noise. Unbelievable.
Student.
In California, smoke detectors are required on all buildings for "human dwelling", so we've had them here for a long time.
They work so well(badly), in fact, that they once went off when we weren't home, and we rushed home panicking because the alarm company called us, only to find our house completely okay with no fire inside whatsoever. It was extremely embarrassing to talk to the firemen (with all their fire trucks and hoses out) who were working so hard to find some sort of fire inside, when there was none >_>;;

What else can you do with the move at this point?

US has required them in all buildings for a long time. Over 30 years, I think.

not yet required here so we dont have one but our store is required to have a fire extinguisher which im dying to try "i havent used one yet so ya know want some experience" lol

As much as I appreciate that Japan is finally moving forward with fire safety, and as much as I like Japanese gadgets, I would die in that fire if I ever used one of those smoke alarms...
