Interesting to see that the live action Dragonball is being used to promote fire and smoke detectors by the Tokyo Fire Department.
By next April 1st, all households in Japan are required by law to install fire and smoke detectors. There have even been campaigns where the fire department have been handing out for free at the local shotengai.
We don't have any yet but will fit them in before April. Do you have fire and smoke detectors installed at home?

The Japanese word for fire and smoke detectors is Kasai Keihou Ki [火災警報器[かさいけいほうき]].

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

In canada, we are required by law to have fire alarms/smoke detectors. It saves lives, and this should have been enforced by law in Japan a long time ago.

Get some soon Danny, they really help.

Of course, in Arizona you *really* need detectors and other fire danger awareness seeing as the whole state's basically a tinderbox most of the time. . . It's why there's those fire danger signs along all the highways, in theory so smokers don't toss still-lit cigarettes out the window, since just one would make whole acres ignite. Though when you drive by Sunset Point you kind of wonder if it's effective or not.

Pretty funny to hear a Japanese smoke detector. Nice difference from the familiar "WUAAAAAAGH! NYAAAAAAAAUGH!! FUWAAAAAAAAAGH!!!"

Seriously, this is one time that the Japanese have to be less polite than usual. I wonder if this law took so long to pass because implementing a *talking* smoke detector was technologically difficult before.

Although I do find the polite ambulances and garbage trucks quite endearing.

Fire alarms, and smoke detectors are required by law here in Ohio. And its a good idea to have a carbon monoxide detector..especially now.. since most people in the northern hemisphere have their furnaces or heaters running. which can potentially lead to the risk of having a lethal non coloured, non smelling gas invade your home.

More people die from carbon monoxide leaks then fires every year. something to think about.

We've had a fire and smoke detector in our house since I can remember, so its probably required by law here. Last year when my old computer exploded, after I got myself a new PSU that blew up I had to fit a smoke detector in my room out of paranoia.

In Australia are required by law to install smoke detectors in homes... Australia is a fire-prone country, and we get seasonal fires which burn out of control for several weeks. That reminds me, it's that same time of the year, when fire season begins.

Smoke dectors are sort of a nobrainer here in the US. Certainly in all homes and a must in businesses. The noise it makes when it goes off is usually ear piercing irritating and some beep when power is running low but I once watched a program which discussed how some children will just sleep through the noise. Unbelievable.

In California, smoke detectors are required on all buildings for "human dwelling", so we've had them here for a long time.
    They work so well(badly), in fact, that they once went off when we weren't home, and we rushed home panicking because the alarm company called us, only to find our house completely okay with no fire inside whatsoever. It was extremely embarrassing to talk to the firemen (with all their fire trucks and hoses out) who were working so hard to find some sort of fire inside, when there was none >_>;;
