Good luck to those who are taking the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) tomorrow.
Many moons ago I passed level 4 and then level 2 the following year. After I graduated from university studying Japanese and Korean language, my teacher said that I didn't need to take level 1 ^^;

Attaching a photo of sunny Shinjuku that I took yesterday to egg you on. T'was a poster of Shinjuku that I had on my wall back in the UK that I looked at every day - certainly helped me stay focused on my Japanese language study.
Being able to speak fluent Japanese will open up many more doors of opportunity - just make sure you have an additional skill with your language as Japanese language alone will narrow down your options.
If you speak Japanese and are a superstar programmer like my man Chris Gaunt for example then I need to hear from you now - details here.
Had a load of resumes from folks with the programming skills but not the language skills. Also got a load of applications from folks with the language skills but not the programming skills.

If you are taking the JLPT tomorrow and are up cramming - dont bother. Just have a relaxing evening and allow your brain to clear its self for tomorrow.

What level JLPT will you be taking tomorrow?

Try business studies (Marketing, business admin, Finance, e-commerce and so forth) or IT field (programing, system analysis, web designer, computer engineer and so on).

Language is just one part in life there are still other skills you need in order to make a decent living.

It's never too late to learn something new.

If you want to become an English teacher make sure you get a degree in English language so you can do the exchange program for Japan. If you suit the bill and would like to work there for the rest of your life sure why not and getting a citizenship will be much more easier.

For those of us not in the know (me included ^^), is there any sort of Japanese-English chat site where new language learners can get together and exchange friendly conversation to gauge their understanding of the language? I mean, where native-English speakers can speak Japanese with native-Japanese speakers, and vice-versa. And I'm not talking about anything like a dating service, but something for people who are learning the languages, and are there any such places for those who are taking a self-study course? I was thinking of studying Japanese myself, but I think it would be extremely difficult if I didn't use the language on a regular basis. Though I'm not looking to go to any of these sites at the moment, it would be nice to know of them for when I've gotten a better grasp of the language.

I'll definitely take the test when the opportunity presents itself. I live in a small town, so there aren't usually any places around here to take the JLPT. However, I hope to return to Japan for a job in the near future, and I'm sure I can look up the info then.

Also, it's too bad that people with one skill or the other can't be accepted for the position in your office and be taught the other skill as they progress. That would obviously be a setback to the work you do, but who knows, some people are fast learners. XD

T_T -I took a sample level two... I was able to read 80% of it, but seem as though I didn't comprehend it... As well as the fact that it has writing on it disqualifies me immediately, since my kanji writing, and grammar for Japanese is not that great compared to my listening and reading.... I should brush up my Japanese..

Probably level four to be honest. I never had the opportunity to do Japanese at GCSE but from what I've seen I'm not sure it takes you that far (I'm pretty certain it's mostly taught in romaji too).

Many people are sitting JLPT tomorrow, and I was sitting the CAE oral exam today. Seriously, I hate Cambridge speaking tests. What the hell am I supposed to say about two pictures of water and some people? How can I know what that boatman is feeling? I wouldn't be able to say anything wise about it in my mother language either.

Anyways, good luck to those who take the JLPT tomorrow. I want to take the JLPT 2 next year, or maybe the year after next. But I will have to travel to a foreign country to take the test lol That's also the reason why I decided I wouldn't do JLPT 3.

I'm taking the JLPT3 tomorrow with the full intention of failing.

I've not made any serious progress in Japanese since June of this year, and because of that, I find it increasingly hard to motivate myself to study (Resulting in a month and a half break during August and September.) That in turn causes me to forget everything I knew, leading to an endless cycle.

I desperately need someone to use my Japanese with, instead of just learning from readers and textbooks.

I sat for 2kyuu. The 文字・語彙 was quite difficult for me, but the 読解 part, specially 問題1 (usually the hardest text) was very soft. I've started studying japanese about 20 months ago, last year I pass 4kyuu and tried to go directly to 2kyuu. I did previous years exams, and I think I can get at least 240.

I wanted to take 3-kyuu this year but couldn't catch up with all the stuff to be covered so I opted for 4-kyuu instead. I'd say I did pretty well especially on the listening part...kanji's a no brainer. grammar kinda had me thinking twice/thrice and more before answering though. *sigh* Next year I hope to aim for 2-kyuu. Can't wait to finally be able to speak the language. It really helps when your sensei is pure japanese and barely knows how to speak english. hahahah

Wow! So many taking/passing Levels 2 and 1! Well done!!! I took 4級 over the weekend. I wouldn't say that I destroyed it or killed it, but I am certain I passed it. Unfortunately the results are not sent out until February-- such a long time to wait! I will definitely be ready for 3級 next year.

I stumbled onto this test while studying Japanese as a hobby. I got a tutor and really started to set a goal of getting it done. I gave myself a year to get ready and really tore into it. I fell ill and lost the goal. This makes me want to try again (as I'm just fine now.)

(if anyone took JLPT LV 1... they would have heard something familiar from Neon Genesis Evangelion)
