Together with Internet Entrepreneur Ejovi Nuwere at the headquarters for the Japan Times.
Ejovi established a load of well known services like FON and now currently runs Internet strategy at the Japan Times and is the CEO of Land Rush Group.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that The Japan Times and I are planning to launch a Tokyo portal website which is tentatively being called internally as project "Tokyo Dot" as in tokyo.japantimes.co.jp.

By combining our two brands together on the Mirai Gaia platform, we aim to provide the latest in lifestyle trends from Tokyo together with an enhanced user experience which embraces many social media networks through available API's.

We are looking to feature much user generated content in the form of Tokyo Live Blogger posts and work with folks like you who photo blog about life in Tokyo.

We want to provide the definite guide to Tokyo for your interests and needs and would like your feedback.
As part of the portal, I personally would like to see things like photo walks and my "A Week in Tokyo" series.
I'm also thinking about things like:-
-Top ten business hotels to stay at.
-Top ten budget hotels to stay at.
-Top ten vegetarian restaurants.
-Top ten Medical/disabled facilities.
-Recommended 1x1 language teachers.
-Guides on living in Tokyo (driving license, buying a house, starting a business, visa, marriage, tax etc etc)
-How to start a successful career in Tokyo.
-Job classifieds.
-Everything Tokyo.

We would like to know which Japan news sites you currently enjoy (like JapanProbe) for example and what you like about those sites.
Would also like to hear what you personally want from a Tokyo portal. What sort of news and info and features would you like to see.

If you run a Japan photo blog, let us know the URL - we want to involve you as much as possible. Having your content on the Japan Times is something that probably looks good on your profile too ^^

Do you have Japan news sites on your Frequent list?

0%

0%

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

This item was posted in the Japan category. You can see more of everything else or subscribe via RSS instead.

Currently I only read Japan Probe for news on Japan. What I enjoy about it, is that there is not only coverage from a secondary source but also the opinion of the website owner and the commenters that also frequent the website.

Photo blogging in Tokyo will have to wait another few years for me ^^; I have to get there first.

    I run a Japan photo blog but I don't get to update as much as some others do. This is due to me being underway so much (even as I type this). But when I am inport, I try to show places that many people don't know about, specifically anime pilgrimages with instructions on how to get to a particular place. So far I've done Elfen Lied, Lucky Star, Higurashi, and Fate Stay Night. I try to put normal tourist type locations as well but it is certainly anime centric. ^^;

The only news articles I have ever written were the Akihabara building fire, the life sized Gundam coverage, and the Tony Taka Shining Wind Exhibition in Osaka. Don't think I qualify as Japan news. lol

For actually Japan news sites, I visit Dannychoo.com and occasionally Japan Probe. Information such as where the English speaking hotels are would be useful in my travels. But also, English directions to alot of "off the beaten path" places would be great! Not just the normal Nikko, Nara, Kyoto stuff but places that maybe only locals know about. That's what I would like to see most. ^_^

    Otaku Social Media/Blogger/Event Coverage

Personally I follow Japan Probe, Oricon Style, AkihabaraNews, Mainichi, eGenki Japan, Alltop, JapanSoc, NewsOnJapan, and Sankaku Complex. Not sure if 2channel counts as a news source or not. XD

I follow these mostly because they're some of the best news sites I've come across that isn't necessarily related to otaku subjects. I also love Japan, it's culture (and subcultures lol) and it's people, so learning and seeing more things about Japan outside of the otaku realm is a bit of a nice alternative sometimes.

-I think the features I would love to see would be:

    -Living in Japan
    -Food/Dining in Japan
    -Working in Japan
    -Trends/Fashion (shibuya-kei) :3
    -Japanese schools
    -Entertainment in Japan (non-otaku)
    -Cultural festivals
    -Events and Holidays
    -Celebrities/Music Idols
-Health Care info (non dolphin related)
-And some good ol' random stuff that is humorous that we tend to see now and then on Japan Probe. You know, just randomness, like the guy that built the giant mecha beetle thing, or the man that made that tiny parking space under the stairs lol.

I think it'd be great to see some of these things realized on the site. ^_^
Congrats on the new project Danny!

I like mainly the photo walks around Tokyo from DC, Shibuya246 and a few others as they always show a different side of Tokyo that I may have not seen yet. The videos of different areas of Tokyo on Akihabara News are great for that too.

I check out TokyoMango a fair bit as there is always something weird there to make me laugh. I drop in on Gakuranman, Dumb Otaku, Kirainet and JapanSoc amongst others.

I'd like to see reviews/info on modern hotels (non-chain eg Hyatt, Hilton) to stay at in Tokyo.

Now that's some awesome news, Danny!

I read Japan newspapers daily. At the moment I read Japan Today and Asahi Shimbun online. My main complain about both sites is the lack of pictures. For example, there was an article about Japan winning World Cosplay Summit 2009 in both of them, but no pic of the winners. Don't matter if the article was extremely well written, without a pic it's kind of useless. Most of the news I read are about Japanese politics though...

I liked very much these two ideas:
-How to start a successful career in Tokyo.
    -Job classifieds.

Best of luck with new project! I'm certainly looking forward to it.

I'm illiterate so the only Japan-centric news sites I frequent are Danny Choo and once in a while Sankaku Complex. Since I'm illiterate, the main thing that struck me about this article was how the yellow guy is taller than the black guy. And that is awesome. How tall is you, Danny?

Awesome, Danny! You keep going up and up! Keep soaring!

I personally read Japan Today and I watch FNN for national news (to hear spoken Japanese).

I visit JapanProbe nearly everyday and plan to make more sites fit into my daily browsing.
The living in Tokyo and Jobs sections I'm very excited about reading. I would love to see things like guides on how to visit Japan on a budget; hotels, travelling, seeing sights, etc.
