Doll Show 26 took place yesterday in Hamamatsu-cho at the Tokyo Trade Center. Unlike last time, this time round we was treated to 4 floors including the tea space on the 2nd floor where many sons n daughters got to meet new friends - as well as parents too ^^;

 title=

Didn't take as many photos as I did last time as some of the stuff was the same. If you want to see what it was like then have a look at the previous Doll Show photo article.

Here we see Saber with "prayer hands" for Dollfies - will cost 4,000 yen.

 title=

One face that we didn't see at the previous Doll Show was Natsuki.

 title=

Ryomo in punk (?) gear which seems to be quite popular.

 title=

Think this is Asuka.

 title=

Purple wig Saber. Folks who live in Japan will notice that many elderly ladies dye their hair purple. Some folks said that its because the black hair dye fades away but my hair dresser says is because they actually do dye their hair purple.

 title=

Kanu in slip. Fotgot to pick up that hair pin.

 title=

Yoko with eyes from Cork Cats.

 title=

Illya.

 title=

Not entirely sure who this is - looks like Komaki.

 title=

I thought these eyes where resin but on a closer look I discover that they are actually prints.

 title=

One thing I like about the doll shows is that one gets inspiration on how to dress up ones daughter.

 title=

Wanted to have a dealer booth at the up n coming Dollpa next month but just discovered that applications closed last August! Was going to sell the maid mirai and suit.

 title=

Saber looks so cute here.

 title=

Didn't see that many of Nia. Dollpa is mainly focused on Dollfie stuff so expect to see more of her next month.
Todays Doll Show was a mixed bag of everything although this time round I focused on the Dollfie stuff.

 title=

Yui Hirasawa played by Nanoha. Very sweet. Also reminds me that I need to give Nanoha another haircut.

 title=

Cuddly Saber.

 title=

Hmmm. She looks familiar.

 title=

This was the sweetest Dollfie I saw all day long - belongs to Mofu-san and you can see more of her daughter at Flickr. Mofu-san gave her daughter peachy cheeks and purupuru lip makeup. I've asked her to do my Nanoha-chan up the same.

 title=

Mofu-san's daughter is called Michiru-san.
Quick Japanese lesson - never stick "san" on the end of your own name. "san" is a suffix used on the end of somebody else's name and is the polite way of referring to someone. Referring to yourself with "san" on the end makes you look like a pratt.

 title=

Want to pinch her cheeks!

 title=

Another Yui Hirasawa played by Nanoha.

 title=

Louise plays puchi Fate.

 title=

Think this is a custom head playing puchi Nanoha.

 title=

Erika plays Klan Klein.

 title=

Haruhi plays Kokonoe Rin.

 title=

Nyan.

 title=

Moe-chan points to something down her top.

 title=

Saw a load of black clothes that I would have loved to get for my daughters but have first hand experience of color transfer onto the body. Even dark blue socks are culprits. Cant be bothered to use cling film either.

 title=

Moe-chan.

 title=

Meido Sasara.

 title=

Sasara n Moe.

 title=

Saber Alter Harem?

 title=

Cant remember what outfit this is from - Guilty Gear?

 title=

Natsuki in one of Volks recently released outfits.

 title=

Saw a few pair of jeans which I wanted to get but stocked up n a load of other stuff instead ^^;

 title=

Moe-chan.

 title=

Just noticed from these photos that quite a few daughters have had their hair trimmed.

 title=

Saw a load of leather jackets which were a bit pricey.

 title=

Moe-chan.

 title=

Got some eyelashes but not got round to attaching them.

 title=

Sasara looking rather smexy.

 title=

Nekomimi Komaki Mannaka.

 title=

ToHeart girls.

 title=

Rozen Sasara.

 title=

Yukino Miku.

 title=

Escalayer.

 title=

Rin Tohsaka.

 title=

Mirai Saber.

 title=

i've read up on articles about dollfie from you danny, and i noticed these problems like clothing colours staining the dollfie's skin? what isit about? are the dollfie skin types so susceptible to staining? or isit because of the clothing materials? >.< i kinda wish to noe

Its due to both actually. Staining on dolls happens when the colours in the clothes are not colour fast. This most often happens with dark colours because of the amount of dye used to get the resulting colour. When heavily dyed clothes like this come into contact with the dolls, the dye can rub off onto the dolls bodies and cause a mark or stain.

With resin dolls, it can be removed quite easily, but with vinyl dolls, the vinyl absorbs the dye so it stains deeper and needs a more intensive treatment to remove it.

Unfortunately for all you guys, the dye transfer problem means COVER YOUR DOLLS UP. My Yumiko-tan wears a body stocking at all times. I have to sort of push it down so that she can wear this one spaghetti strap decolletage dress I have for her (gotta get pix of her in it too, I know) and I don't dare leave it on her too long. My 60cm genderbender Obitsu boy actually wears ladies' tights under his pants, and I have clingy long sleeved white t-shirts on order from a seamstress I met through Den of Angels for the both of them.

Fortunately here in LA the surfer look where people wear short-sleeved shirts layered over long sleeved shirts is quite popular. It looks a bit like this:

        http://www.polo-shirts.co.uk/images/fotl_layered_tshirt_Steel%20Blue%20Ash.jpg

So yeah, it's kind of important to have protective gear on under your vinyl children's outfits. Either that, or limit yourself to light colored outfits.

/me points to Obitsu as a way of getting a start in the hobby for less:
      http://www.parabox.jp/eng/

And also if you stick with basic Dollfie Dream heads and bodies it's not so bad. I am not sure whether you can order through Volks USA or whether you have to order through Volks Japan, but a basic headless DD M bust is $231 US, and a basic head is $42 US. Mini DD body for a more chibi looking doll is $218 US. Eyes are $11 US for Animetics. You might want to look around locally for eyes and wigs though. For clothing eBay is your friend, same with wigs, actually. Parabox sells clothes too although not a huge variety.

      Good luck Meimi-chan!

If you think about it logically it all makes sense. Why do so many of these collectors call them daughters? and say that they are adopting them? It's rather simple really, it's because 95% of Dollfie collectors are batshit insane and believe that their dolls have souls and personalities of their own. I mean, if you paid as much for a doll as these people, you'd demand it have a soul just so you could rape it and get your moneys worth. Not only that, but 90% of owners believe that their dolls talk to them. Amazingly, only 20% of these tell them to kill or burn things. Which explains why they become so infatuated with them to the point that 200% of Dollfie collectors will take at least thirty pictures of their prized possession within the first hour of ownership, with 80% of pictures looking exactly the same.

Many of them have family members or close friends that try to help them with their mental illness, trying to persuade them back into reality, but this seems to backfire as they start to think of them as "people who don't understand" when it is them who decided to isolate themselves from everyone else. The worst part is they don't even realize it and just drift away from society, having only their daughters/sons to comfort them as they take pictures of them performing "incestuous" acts.

OK, I'm feeding a troll here, but here goes:
        1.) I don't believe either Yumiko-tan or Zetto-kun have souls.
2.) Neither do I believe they talk to me. On the contrary: I put words in their mouths. I do photo manga.
3.) I do not refer to either one as "son" or "daughter" except in occasional jest.
4.) I daresay you've watched "Innocence: Ghost In The Shell 2" a few too many times.
        Regards,

Klan Klein and all the rest are very cute! Dream Doffies are so much more popular in Japan compared to here in the US. Reminds me again I have to get to work on mine to create her new persona. I like the idea of lashes, would work for her.

And black hair dye does not fade to purple. I know from years of experience. Anyone who says that it does, does not know the facts. To get purple hair you have to dye it purple. Some blue colors might fade to purple, but to get a real purple or violet color you have to dye it that way. I love purple hair and can't wait to get back to having it again! And yes some older women dye their hair fun colors in Japan. I remember seeing that and thinking how cool it was that they felt free enough to do that. Orange hair while wearing a yukata definitely neat to see!

The thing I don't like about Dollfies is that you get custom figures using other characters to 'cosplay' them. The OOC aspect of this really puts me off as I am a stickler for proper characterization and proper figures of characters. Don't like to think of Louise when thinking of Fate, for instance.

Keep thinking to myself, Nanoha won't do that/doesn't look like that.

Other than that the Dollfies look absolutely gorgeous.

Lovely! Wish I could have gone, but being on another continent made that a little difficult. XD

Also, if anyone knows where this wig came from, I'd be very grateful: http://www.dannychoo.com/post/en/25229/Doll+Show+26.html#image81733 The color is exactly what I'm looking for for a specific character, and the style's very close too. Would put me much closer to actually taking on that particular custom project!

Hello Danny I just discovered your site and I really enjoy it, as well as these amazing dolls. I am planning a trip to Japan summer 2010, and I would love to be able to go to a doll show. I see you have listed the next two doll shows, but none after that. Are they not scheduled that far in advanced? I have been searching for awhile trying to find some information so I can make certain I am in Tokyo when there is a doll show, but I can't find much information about the actual show. Any ideas for me? A website, perhaps? And any other festivals/shows I should make sure to attend while I'm there??
    Thanks!

I know this may sound a bit harsh, but hear me out till the end alright. I know what you're thinking, and it sounds fun because of all the people here, but you would be making quite the mistake in investing in dollfies. Not only for financial reasons but also social reasons. You know how some otakus will try to dick-measure with each other over who the biggest otaku is? 'I only watch SUBTITLED anime!' 'Oh yeah? Well I only read UNTRANSLATED manga!' 'F*ck you guys, I import all my clothes and groceries from Japan! DESU!' The Dollfie collector is the one the Hello-Kitty-Vibrator using, bento box making, anime cel collecting, Japanese language and culture grad student with the Japanese girlfriend/boyfriend looks at funny. I just wanted to warn you. These people may console you and what not, but you'll never meet them. They don't come close to your family and friends, I'm sure, and even then those that do accept you but aren't into the same things you are will rag you about your "daughter adoption" for the rest of your life (or until you no longer see each other). In the end it's your life, just make sure that you'll be happy with the outcome.

      Just my 2 cents worth.

Don't be shy, tell us how you feel. ¬.¬ Just because someone wants or has a Dollfie doesn't make them a posturing prick or a lunatic who can't tell the difference between real life and the land of let's pretend. Some people like the customizability of Dollfies, or enjoy photographing something 1/3 size that has the added bonus of being cute. Others still get them so they can have an articulated figure to draw from that doesn't look like a half-finished mannequin if they happen to leave it out. They're a sort of cross-hobby hobby. Please don't be so judgmental about a subset of your own fandom.
