Tetsujin appears in the middle of Ginza controlled by NTT Docomo services. Like the end of the commercial when hes flying.

NTT is a telecommunications company who provide phone communications for the whole of Japan. They offer a load of services from the dog n bone (phone) to 1GB optic fiber internet connections to mobile devices.

We first started off with Docomo and then switched to AU mainly because the Docomo mobiles had very very bad designs and features.

After switching to AU, the AU mobile design and features then started to lag with the times. We switched to Softbank just for the iPhone 3GS.
One of the great things about the iPhone is that most of my comrades own one meaning free calls during the business day. Its actually from midnight to 9PM the following day though I think.

What carrier are you using in your neck of the woods and are they your recommended carrier or are they shafting you?

Also, what sort of pay-as-you-go options are available where you live? I'm going to be in Singapore next month and need a sim card for the week. Still plan on that Canada trip (dont know when) and will need one when I get there too.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

Over here in Canada I'm on the Fido network (which is a subsidiary of Rogers) and I would highly recommend them if you're in Canada looking for a phone. I pay CAD$20 a month and I get 50min of calling (I am billed by the second so I don't really run out of time at all), 50 text messages(Fido has unlimited incoming text messages which some other service providers do not offer, including rogers oddly enough), and unlimited evenings and weekends starting at 7pm and ending at 8am. Pretty nice phones too including the iPhone.

A lot of people are critical of Softbank due to 'poor coverage', but I must say I've never had any problems (although admittedly I rarely leave the city).

I noticed a big difference when switching from iPhone 3G to iPhone 3GS though - 3GS is much faster at re-establishing a connection when coming out of subway tunnels.

Been using StarHub services in Singapore for almost 2 years.
They have this pay-as-you-go scheme where one need only to buy a pack of S$28, but loaded with $100 for local calls and $28 for international..

But generally Singapore's telco are mostly the same, if you're not cheapskate enough, everything would be the same..

for prepaid cards, I'd recommend starhub: http://www.starhub.com/mobile/prepaidcards.html

Starhub probably has the best value - send 5 local or Global SMS every day and get 10 more local or Global SMS free

I use Bell Sympatico which merged with MSN long time ago. I use Bell and gained some useful free goodies from them before. I gained some USB card readers, a DVD player, and 3-4 gigs worth of mini cards from them before.
I then heard horror stories of Canadians using Rogers as they always shafted people by making them over pay or to stop downloading with unlimited downloading service plans. I haven't gained any serious hassles from Bell Sympatico as much as I have heard from Rogers.

How I would like to see those types of phone commercials here. Stupid generic Bell commercials and the one sided phone wars of Rogers. At least Koodoo has some fun commercials of dancing props that spell things out. Haven't seen much of Fido's dog commercials as I have in the past.

A friend at work left last week and before he left gave me an old Nokia (6310i)phone he had. It works, but I need to get it unlocked, then I might go for a pay as you go plan. But as I have no use for a cell phone, it's no exactly a rush. If I can get it unlocked, maybe I'll use it when I go to Japan in two years. (for emergencies, etc..)

Well here in South America, speccially in my country we use the Movistar Services. With that you don't need to pay to use the Internet mobile, the call from a Movistar to another Movistar have a "half price" and the messages are accumulative so if you don't like to write you can keep it for another time. The bad point of all this is that their phones are too EXPENSIVE, if you know what am talking about... T.T

Using Nokia N70, asked my cousin in Singapore to buy me one like her's. We have two here, which are DST and B-Mobile. I use 3G line so only B-Mobile use that ('~')

DST are the best choice because you still can use your credit even it's expired. Unlike B-Mobile, you need to recharge the credit before dateline. It's like recharge or else.

I find Virgin Mobile has some pretty good prepaid plans, but I think a lot of the cell phone companies are asking around 30 cents per minute. There's one company that's offering at 20 cents per minute.
