For me it's somewhere between the lines of consumer and creator. I like creating my own content (e.g. a blog, videos, etc.) but I also buy stuff and recycle other content (e.g. making AMVs, Photoshopping other photos). Why I do it is simple: it's fun. What motivates me is also simple: I simply love the stuff and I enjoy doing it.

Sounds great and all, but there are times that it frustrates me, partly because I'm not getting any benefit from it and it's both time and money consuming. I'd wish I knew how to get the ball rolling to make it a financial success while not turning it all into a chore.

right now, I am more of a consumer, though as someone with a background in journalism, I am inclined to republish other people's content, with proper credits of course, if not find/create content. It's what actually got me into blogging recently actually.

While I like to read and watch what other people create, I also like creating myself. Not videos so much but I have a few I could put on the internet. I prefer taking and posting my own photos but will admit to the occasional screen capture when I see a defining moment in a show or movie. I've been blogging for a few years and taking photographs much longer. I enjoy it!

Something that gives credit to the fears of local internet-users toward sharing content online.

"They don't tend to comment much, they tend to be quiet and just read, basically. The simple explaination is that they see a lot of comments written in English on my blog, and most of them are not sure whether they are allowed to write in Japanese or not. Of course, there are some of them who add a comment in Japanese, but I noticed most of them are people who have an Internet-related job, or who own a blog themselves."

The conclusion is simple: the Japanese web is just not the same as the one we know in the West. Neither better nor worse, just different. Here, you share everything, except personal things.

Most rough parts, convoluted choice of words and repetitions is a conscious attempt of myself to stay true to the original version, as "TV-French" can be quite different from everyday French.

Won't get into too much deatils on my personal thoughts about the emission as a whole, but I found it too close to the wrong side of "look at them how they are different" to be enjoyable. The part about cultural differences which make Japanese people suspicious toward entrepreneurs was interesting and probably quite true (unfortunately), but I don't really see the point of the other part. If we speak of general people, yes, maybe they don't blog as much as we do... but I still see an awful lot of young people posting 4 articles a day on Mixi. If we speak of otakus, I beg to differ with Danny's opinion: there is a hell lot of original content posted on Nico Douga, much more than we do is the West. In fact, the creative activity of the otaku community in Japan is the main reason that drove me back here after working a few years in France. I'd really like to see these kind of facts commented on TV than comments about the prices our fetichist resins... But not Danny's fault here, TV almost always prefers presenting the negative facts instead of the positive ones, must be better for audience...

Danny you really break the stereotype of the antisocial and shy otaku, you're a hero well done!

Generally, I'm a consumer, but as an news/information blogger, I guess I'm more of a content middleman/facilitator. Most of my entries aren't original, but they were summarized from a lot of sources and translated by me from Japanese. So, in my eyes, I don't view myself as a producer since the content is out there already in Japanese. But to those who cannot read Japanese, it might seem like I am producing content.

I'm both a consumer and creator.
And I guess I'm the creator of the majority of content on my borogu ^^

Hmm, I think I'm both creator and consumer.

I have a channel on You Tube were I post videos about DVDs. I also post some of my short movies and movie clips that I do.

I enjoy sharing thoughts and knowlege with others and I love to have feed back from them.

I'm definately a consumer, although i'm slowly trying to shift into being a producer.
I guess there are a few things I should spruce up first before I can post content.

I'm mostly a consumer: I read a lot of articles everyday and repost the ones that I find interesting in my blog. It's a way for me to remember what I have read (which often comes handy in my course since I often read about mechanical stuff) and to share with other people (because I feel that people nowadays care more about showbiz then more important stuff like the news). This is the main reason why I started blogging in the first place.

But sometimes I post my own stuff; usually in the form of pictures about an event. I mostly post pictures of anime conventions, gun shows and (rarely) extraordinary events in my life (like the time a car crashed just in front of our house or when tropical storm Ondoy caused mayhem in the country). I also post figure posts but only when I acquire one which is VERY RARE XD

Currently I'm just a consumer, I don't think I have the time or what it takes to become a creator right now.

It looks like I've forgotten most of my French from high school, but it seems great for the broadcaster for contacting you, and spreading this awesome genre of pop culture to France.

I post my own stuff. I believe writing a blog is a good way to improve your writing. I am not saying that copy paste is a wrong thing to do. It's just not my style. =)

Good interview, very interesting to see how Internet use and communities are so different in Japan which is a very much technology oriented society but apparently brings forth different content and behavior.

Ah, rather think I'm not really a creator or a consumer, often just tend to write about things I consumed, does that make you a creator? Not sure...

Perhaps could encourage more mixed Japanese/English language comments? My Japanese is still very limited though.

More of a consumer i think, creating content about anime or japan that is "interesting" or lets say "up-to-date" is rather tough if you aren't living there. ^^;

And all matters related to those topics in germany are kind of old and uninteresting.
For example the conventions here... everytime i went to one i felt like i suddenly got a big sister and someone handed her worn clothes down to me, tho i am a single kid. ^^;

Simply put, it just sucks when you aren't close to the source... specialy of what you love.

I try to be a creator, but I am still finding my 'niche' of what target audience I should shape my blog for.
Currently I blog some things that stand out in my life - But finding things to blog about and looking for an efficient blogging platform is difficult

Interesting interview Danny. I'm a creator. Ok, but I'm also a consumer. And sometimes, it's good to be just a consumer, share good stuff, discover others stuff, be surprised by original contents from very creative people ... There are plenty of different ways to create contents. The good thing with nowadays web technologies, high speed connections and computers accessibility, is the fact that mostly everyone can potentially be a creator ... creativity ftw!

I'm more a consumer and recycler than a creator. I'm still searching for the guts to take pictures and record videos, which I've done in a few occasions. Its not that I hate my place, there are lots of interesting things and as I see it, not many people interested on showing them (but the ones that do so, are professionals)
By my work I ave to consume and recycle some information. -_- I also need the guts to ask for more information. *sigh Man, I'm a gutless being. =(

Well, seeing how I don't have really a way to make videos(videos that are interesting ^_^) I should say that I am a consumer. However, when I have enough of Japanese to get me going(3-4 years) I will be making videos for my friends while I am in Japan. Of course, the Youtube community can follow along if they want to ^_^

I create my blog content, mostly because art books and doujinshi are a bit of a niche hobby so there aren't many other sites talking about it. Even though people use the images that come from them all the time for blog posts, it's not something too many people collect. Or if they do, they just don't talk about it! ^^;

Creator with spinoff effect. As a teacher of cabinetmaking, besides working on personal ideas, the most important (and certainly the most exciting!) is acting as a sounding board for the ideas of my students....who create even more!

As Okada Toshio (Gainax) says in The Otaku Encyclopedia, creators have been replaced by consumers in Japan and it's the same for foreigners. Indeed otaku like anime/manga but only a few has time or the will to create because it's easier to just consume.
In my case I consume and create sometimes (blogging and drawing).

as of today, I'm mostly a consumer, however I do have an account on Wordpress and twitter, and until recently, Facebook. I enjoy reading comment and commenting - at some point I will post something still looking for my internets "voice". :P

There's no "both" option? ^^; I voted Creator because it seems like for the last few weeks I've been doing nothing but work on my own projects. I don't even have time to read nor watch anime 0.o

Why do I do it? I dunno... I think I'm glad that my work are enjoyed by people all over the world. Sure it's still niche and mostly otaku-related but everyone's enjoyment is the reason why I create. So I really appreciate everyone's feedbacks on my work ^_^

Though from time to time I wish I could go through my pile of video games to play, anime to watch and books to read >.>

I'm somewhere between consumer and creator of contents. I do use blogs to communicate ideas and share but lately I did not make any AMV. The reason? I just want to let the world know and it's part of my hobby.
