Twitter Japan recently held a Tweetup to coincide with the launch of the Japanese mobile version of Twitter together with the visit of Twitter co-founder Biz Stone.
Here is Biz with a member of the Empire flogging their new mobile service ^^;
This Trooper has broken the imperial code 35562a by revealing a bit of clone skin just behind the glove and will be sent to detention block 1553a.

 title=

The Tweetup was held at the Garden Hall at Ebisu. Quite a few tech related events are held here.
A "Tweetup" is a gathering of Twitter users and is held worldwide. They can be organized by anyone.

 title=

This tweetup was organized by Twitter Japan and was attended by about 200-ish twitter users from many different fields. AmiAmi came along too.

 title=

With Andrew Shuttleworth who I work with on CGM Night. Our next CGM Night will most probably be in collaboration with Cospa Japan.

 title=

With tangerinejp and Mika who worked on organizing the Tweetup.

 title=

Steve Nagata and his new toy which he used to film the Mint Royale practice vid.

 title=

When I first came across the Twitter service, I didn't really get it. All I saw was a bunch of registered users talking about where they are going, what they are doing, what they are eating etc.

When I was bothered to actually take a closer look, I saw much much more and below are some of the reasons why I use Twitter.

 title=

  • I use Twitter to keep myself in the loop with what friends are up to. They tweet and it appears on my Twitter home page. Short simple text which I can absorb at a glace without reading rows and rows of text for each update.
  • The people I follow are usually like minded and share the same interests. I follow folks from the tech, figure, anime, doll industry and keep up to date with the latest trends. They usually post links to useful info too.
  • I've met a ton of people through Twitter alone - creating new friendships and business opportunities.

 title=

When somebody tweets with an @dannychoo, I can see all tweets addressed to me.
My twitter followers have backgrounds from varying industries and always help me out when I have a question.
Instead of hunting around Google, I can get instant answers (within seconds) from my Twitter followers. My followers have saved my bacon for things like technical JQuery questions to Japanese grammar.

 title=

  • Everybody is busy and not everybody has got time to keep up with what I write on dannychoo.com. I tweet some (not all) of my updates so that my followers can keep in the loop with what I'm writing.
  • Sometimes when I tweet a particularly interesting topic or link, it will get Retweeted meaning that a follower will basically copy n paste what I just tweeted and Retweet it to their followers. Some of my Retweeted links get thousands (and thousands) of clicks.
  • I use Twitter as a form of communications to instantly let thousands of people know about an event or what have you. Many friends in Tokyo are following me on Twitter and is particularly useful when I want to let everybody know about a meetup for example.
  • My Twitter updates are automatically fed into my FaceBook meaning that I can reach out to and keep more people in the loop with what I'm doing.

The Internet is about sharing and Twitter is no exception. Constantly tweeting your own blog posts alone will bore people and some will start to unfollow you. By sharing interesting resources that you come across during your rounds of the Internets, your followers will appreciate the quality of your tweets and start to recommend you on #followfridays.

Every Friday, Twitter users will start to tag their tweets with "#followfriday" followed by twitter usernames. This means that they are recommending Twitter accounts to other users.

Tip: If you are following me for example and send me a note that begins with a @dannychoo, only people who are following you and me will see the message. If you want everybody to see the message then start your tweet with a "."
I update my Twitter account a few times a day and you can follow me @dannychoo.

You can now update your dannychoo.com account with your Twitter username and we will soon be displaying your tweets on the site.

Folks including Goodsmile, Cospa and many of the top Japanese figure bloggers have started to use Twitter too.
Twitter should help enrich your career and life in many ways like it has done for me. But Twitter is only a means - its up to you how you want to use it.

Update - your tweets will soon show up in Google search results - Google Blog.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

This item was posted in the Japan category. You can see more of everything else or subscribe via RSS instead.

    What seems like a simple idea has become a smash hit, I guess that's how it is sometimes :) I think I'm gonna start using Twitter soon too. Amazing how successful it is in Japan as well, Tweet!!!

      When I first heard about Twitter, I thought that it was just the newest flavor-of-the-month social network that would become obscure within a couple of months. Imagine my surprise when it explodes and becomes almost as relevant as Facebook and YouTube (I'd say that they're now the new Big Three of social networks)! I signed up for an account July of 2008 and have been a happy Tweeter ever since!

      I link my Twitter account with my Facebook and my YouTube accounts as well as my blog so that whenever I do something online like write a new post or upload a new video, my followers on Twitter will know!

    Like many people, I used to think Twitter was merely another place for people to blog. As soon as I started being an active member online, I now see the benefits of using the service. Quick, effective messages that are sent to the world wide web. I've yet to use it to get information for things though, will have to try that one day.
    I also have to start sending out some interesting news. ^^;

    You should use a twitter client like Tweetdeck in order to have more and more instant updates about a particular subject, without following the whole planet, thx to #hashtags and search columns (and a second desktop screen to display all the columns lol).

      No serious Twitter user uses the webpage, Danny! Copy and pasting for RT? o_O There's a button for that. Otherwise I woulnd't retweet anything^^
      Those clients autoshorten urls right away which means you can write longer tweets, upload to twitpic when u drag and drop a pic in there and lots of other usefull functions.

    The only thing wrong with Twitter are the countless times I've had spam accounts follow me.

    I just started using Twitter since I launched my website, its a great way to keep visitors and users informed on when I am working on the site and just what I am doing in general. I use Tweetdeck on my iPhone and on my computer to keep track of the people I follow etc. It was really useful when I was debugging the site my testers could just send me a quick tweet if something was broken etc.

    I used to use Echophone but I like Tweetdeck better.

    I'm actually considering in making a public account separate from my personal account; like having networking opportunities and other convos on a public account while having my personal account for a few close friends and what not. I'd like to separate my lives if possible ^^;;

    I utilize Twitter a lot, though! Many businesses use it for promotions and what not. For example, I've been getting free burgers, other foods, and some discounts just by following food businesses on Twitter. The promotion does wonders to their sales (and my tummy ^^).

    Twitter is almost like a chat to me. I don't update what I'm doing at the very moment, but is becoming something I'm doing more often ^^; But along with a few people I did join Twitter because it might've been integrated into puchi blurbs instead XD Having a bit of fun with it sometimes :)

    BTW, I think you had me on follow, but the old account messed up that I had to make a new one ^^;

    Mwahahaha I've been using twitter even before it was cool. For those looking for opensource alternative there's also identi.ca

    Twitter's amazing. There are all sorts of professional scientists on there I can ask questions to, not to mention fellow anime/game lovers.

    I feel like it took awhile for Twitter to get going but even now I'm hooked. I started using it again soon after I got my job in NYC. I also started my blog and noticed how a lot of other Japanese bloggers were using twitter. It's really a great invention and tool for communication. I've made so many friends in the Japanese community, as well as new friends here in NYC that share the same passions as myself. For anyone not hip to twitter, please use it! There are so many ways to use it and I'm 100% sure you would get something back from using twitter!
