A quick note to folks in France that I will be on La Chaîne Info - its a French news channel a bit like CNN.

 title=

Updating this post with a group photo taken on the evening of the filming.
Here we have Nobi Hayashi (consultant for all the big IT firms in Japan), Guillaume Delalande (LCI Journalist), Mr Camera Man (forgot his business card), Cedric Ingrand (LCI), Paul Papadimitriou (Social Media Expert/Consultant), Steve Nagata (Social Media Expert/Consultant).

 title=

Was interviewed on the Otaku subculture topic, dannychoo.com and what my company does. I usually talk about the same topic at conferences (and will do so again at Singapore this year) but always make sure that I talk about different aspects while conveying the same message.

BTW, I know it looks like I has dolphin in hand but its actually the mic unit ^^;

 title=

Going to be broadcasted in a few weeks time - will let you know when a recording is up - thanks to Paul Papadimitriou for setting us up.
Speaking of French, how many of you speak the language? My French teacher taught us Spanish as a second language back in the UK during secondary school - was quite good at it but all I remember now is the most useful phrase of "Una lata de sardinas."

My current spoken languages are English, Japanese, Korean, Cantonese, Chinese and listening comprehension of Shanghainese and Hokkien.

How many languages do you speak and what are they?

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

I only know Cantonese and English. Relearning Mandarin before I get serious with Japanese and Korean.

I wish my high school taught Japanese or Chinese (neighboring school offered it, though :()... Granted I knew enough Japanese that I was able to get by in Japan; I just wish I knew more and could actually dedicate some time to teaching myself.

It kind of sucks being in the U.S., since you really only need English, unlike Europe were its not too uncommon to know two or more languages.

Hard to say how many languages I can actually speak. Well, I speak Czech (first langauge) and English. Then, I could join a conversation in Japanese as far as it's not too complicated. Let's say I'm a bit below the JLPT 2 level. I could probably somewhat get by in French (ask where is the station, how much it costs, etc.). And I used to study Spanish at elementary school, but as I have not used it since then, I couldn't make any sentence more difficult than "Como estas?; Dónde está la estación?; Me gusta los pasteles".
And does Slovak count? Though, I can't say I can speak it. But as it's very similar to Czech, I can understand it without any difficulties.

good to see you trying to learn one of the most ancient language, and second hardest, if not hardest dialect of China ;)

i dont know why people say it's hard, maybe because i grew up listening to it >.>
but should be easy for you, because i find it's not differ a lot to the point of uncompromisable from cantonese... all my relatives from hk are able to speak at least a little or fluent hokkien ;)

my parents, uncles, aunties and grandparents all speaks hokkien (different varieties though, amoy, zhangzhou, etc), but because the way i was brought up and the education I had while I was in China, I end up only able to understand everything, but only can speak a bit >_<

if you want to learn a variant of hokkien, maybe amoy... if you do visit the place in the future, you'll find a lot of japanese living there ;)

I studied German for 8 years at school, but I can now barely understand a simple conversation... seems that it's helping a lot to actually WANT to use the language. Also spent 5 years learning Latin, which was a very rewarding experience, especially to better understand the subtile nuances of French litterature (since I do love my native language very much).

Only English...currently learning Japanese. I can pick out some words of Spanish from when I was required to take two years of it in school. I didn't take it very seriously though, just a hoop to jump through.

It's amazing how many people learn multiple languages! Here in the US, we don't because we simply don't need to.

Wow you are able to understand 7 languages I'm impressed, Danny. ^^
I speak and write German and I think I am able to do the same in English quite fluently. English was the first foreign language taught in school. I was learning Latin but it was really boring and I'm happy to have my Latinum now. I started to learn Japanese but it is really hard for me to keep learning. But I definitely won't give up. ^^
I want to learn Korean in the future but I'm not quite sure of it.
Are you interested in German Danny?
