Google Chrome Japan

Its been a year since Google's Chrome browser launched in Japan and I was invited along to the birthday party in Aoyama yesterday to celebrate with a load of industry folks including Good Smile Company, Sega and TBS (K-ON).

 title=

Here with the big boss of Good Smile Company - Aki-san. And what is Good Smile doing at a Google event?
Google first met up with Good Smile Company at Tokyo CGM Night 1 and have been doing great things together ever since. They previously worked on the Google Android and today the Good Smile Company theme for Google Chrome was announced.

 title=

The Good Smile Company theme is part of the Artist Themes project where artists and license holders get their very own Google Chrome theme.

Secret tip: The Mac version of Chrome is not officially released but if you use the developer build of Chrome Mac then you can use the themes.

Once you have downloaded Chrome, go to the Themes page and just click to install - completely painless.

 title=

The background of the GSC theme looks like this.

 title=

And they have a K-On! Theme too. Video below introduces the Artist Themes.

 title=

At the entrance with the Google Girls.

 title=

Event hall slowly starts to fill up.

 title=

Decide to help out the Google Girls rather than just stand there looking like a wally.

 title=

Google Chrome drinks that will turn your pee purple.

 title=

Extremely healthy looking Chrome cake.

 title=

They had tables full O Chrome colored food.

 title=

More Chrome food stuffs.

 title=

There is a Tenori-On Chrome theme too. Tenori-On is a device invented by Yamaha which lights up and pusates to the touch. It plays music and games - video below may (?) give you a better idea of what it is.

 title=

Mr Yamaha. This pic was taken by Steve Nagata and you can see more photos that he took last night at his Flickr..

 title=

Toei animation have their own Chrome theme too.

 title=

Some Toei cute character goods.

 title=

Folks waiting to be branded with a Chrome tatoo.

 title=

My man John Fu at who manages marketing at Google.
John previously lived in the US and had the opportunity to spend a few years in Japan. Before he came over, he googled some living-in-japan terms and came across dannychoo.com.

John contacted me shortly after he arrived and have been good comrades ever since.

Apart from John, there have been folks at Disney Japan, Apple and many other companies who have contacted me just after relocating to Japan upon discovering dannychoo.com through a search.

If you are somebody who is thinking of or already has relocated to Japan then get in touch and we'll hook up if I'm not being swarmed by killer camels.

 title=

John with the Chrome logo.

 title=

Cute girl spotted - who I just happen to have already met at the Good Design Expo press event ^^;

 title=

Another Google Girl.

 title=

One of the rooms had a load of presentations going on filled with press and industry folks.

 title=

Would probably make a good venue for Tokyo CGM Night.

 title=

Ion canon control.

 title=

Hatsune Miku poster in the Good Smile corner.

 title=

Sergent Akiyama setting up figures.

 title=

Time for John to hit the podium.

 title=

Nendoroid Saber Lily is so cute!

 title=

Mostly Nendoroids and Miku stuff on display.

 title=

I will be bringing Good Smile Company with me to AFA 09 in Singapore and will set up some figures for you to look at including the Mirai Figma in the area that has been allocated to me.

 title=

Very sweet. Have you got hold of yours yet?

 title=

Time for all artists to get up on front.

 title=

A load of networking going on tonight.

 title=

Akiyama-san is in charge of the Figma Mirai project.

 title=

Aki-san and Akiyama-san take their turns with the Chrome thingy.

 title=

As with most networking events in Tokyo, there is the paper, scissors and stone battle otherwise known as "Junken."

 title=

Me not good at these at all and hardly ever win anything. Know folks who win all the time though.

 title=

Finishing speech and then its time to head out to do some filming.

 title=

As always, armor is jettisoned at the entrance and left there until the morning.

 title=

And a peek at whats lying around on the desk from the Chrome party.
This is a Hatsune Miku x GSC x Google strap - only a few hundred were made.

 title=

And yes - I got a bunch just for dannychoo.com readers - will announce giveaways soon.

 title=

This is Aki-sans new business card! Must be a pain to carry around a bunch of these though ^^;

 title=

And this is what it looks like on the back.

 title=

Our Google Chrome passes for the night.

 title=

And a bunch of business cards to get through - luckily its a public holiday on Monday which will give me time to catch up while most businesses take time off.

BTW - you can now add multiple polls to your post - find out how.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

I mainly use Firefox, but I've been waiting to try out Chrome for Mac. I just downloaded the developer build, so I'll give that a whirl for a bit. Now I have 3 browsers that I'll use interchageablely on my Mac ^^. It will be handy when it comes to developing for the web, though both Chrome and Safari use webkit. The themes in Chrome are done really well though.

I used to be a frequent Firefox user and I occasionally used Opera and Safari, but since I started using Google Chrome several months ago, I hardly use anything else.

Earlier this week, I downloaded the K-ON! theme and I love it! It makes the browser different without making it confusing like I've found with several of Firefox's themes.

I do miss some of the add-ons that I had with Firefox, but I've learned to live just fine without them. If I do happen to absolutely need an add-on, then I'll use Firefox.

I'm dying to get a slice out of that awesome Chrome cake. Honestly, I've been using Chrome since it came out, and I loved how these themes came out.

I mostly bounce between Firefox and Safari now. Once Chrome hits the point on the Mac where it can be used for everything, I'll probably end up switching. It's pretty much the middle road between speed and features I want.

Still, if they gave me some of that cake, I'd switch now...

my main browser is FF; Chrome is a secondary browser, which I use when I have to be online at the same time that I'm doing something that uses a lot of RAM. the thing I like about FF is that it has a lot of helpful add-ons and stuff, but that leads to the thing I hate about it: it eats up RAM like it's going out of style. annoying~

They certainly go all out for these events the food is full of madness! I use chrome as my main browser and I really like the speed and simplicity it has over other browsers. The GSC table is filled of great figures as I'd expect, although the figure that caught my eye the most was the Shiki figure. I couldn't find it at all while I was out in JP, I'm still looking for somewhere to buy it, its absolutely stunning work. More Google x GSC can only be for the better.

    Using 5 Browsers now:
Firefox - For my daily usage, love the add-ons and working a lot with Personas Skins
Internet Explorer 6 - Working purpose, most clients still use IE6, so I have to stick with it.
Internet Explorer 8 - Working purpose and some random stuff that doesn't work on IE goes here.
Opera - when on my iPod Touch, on PC just opened once, and was very weird.
Chrome - I use to open my Google Apps, too plain and clean for my taste.

Firefox must be the best one.

    Where's the DannyChoo Theme? ;)

Anyways, GSC Theme, I choose you!

Google Chrome lacks just a few things to become my main browser...
    1. Bookmark All Tabs
    2. Drag and drop to Bookmarks
    3. Xmarks (I know, I'm using the Developer's version with Xmarks alpha... so it's almost there)
    4. Screengrab
    5. DownThemAll

This is what I need for a full switch. And really, I'd be glad... Firefox is giving me too many headaches recently.
It crashes all the time, recently something happened and it lost all the links I had on "Restore Session" pages, for some reason it doesn't go well with my Wordpress blog and other stuff like that.

i use firefox always, and IE8 for just a few sites which are not compatible in FF. tried out chrome, didnt like it one bit. it might be fast but we cant customise it a lot like ff. no variety of plugins like ff has. plus at the moment it can only do what IE8 does, just faster. so no reason for me to switch or install another browser on my pc.

That looks like it would have been awesome to be able to go to. (^_^) The few times I've used Google Chrome I loved it, my only complaint is that I hate ads & Firefox has the addblock add-on that fixes that really annoying problem. Hopefully these themes will be the beginning of a ton of new customization options leading to an eventual addblock like one. (^_^) *Crosses fingers* When that happens I might switch browsers. lol

And I spy a typo. Shouldn't it be "janken" instead of "junken"? Although a junken (inspection) tournament would be good too I'm sure. Just imagine the fun people would have inspecting each other, lol...

As for browsers, I tend to stick to Firefox for its add-ons. It's kind of starting to feel bloated though and those add-on updates are getting a bit too intrusive.

On the Mac I use Camino when surfing around. Camino is a Mac only version of Firefox. Works really well with Power PCs. For health care purposes I use Firefox. It can handle lots of tabs without too much memory load. On Windows I use Firefox. Never wanted to try chrome, seeing as how it doesn't for with OSX 10.4, but I may give it a whirl on the PC.

Never know there is Miku theme for Chrome but for 3.0 only. I think Chrome and Firefox are the same because they use the same sources. Get rid of IE for many years. Firefox is very good when I read pages with languages like Japan (Chrome can't identify ). But Chrome is very fast if you use a PC with Celeron Processor or lower. Using Safari only on iPod Touch

indeed they are great, and IE and currently Chrome don't have.

    Wow, food looks good.

I've actually never used chrome before. I was told that it was very very fast.

I absolutely love Chrome, is really fast for being only one year old! But the killer thing are the missing applications you can add in Firefox, like a xmarks which lets you synchronize your bookmarks and use them in all your computers, also you have a back up in a server in case if something happens. Had to learn the hard way and lose a couple of really good sites in Chrome, so switch back to Firefox for now.

Chrome is resource intensive, but I don't mind, since I think it's a great browser. However, it still has a few quirks, and whatever doesn't display on Chrome, I normally use IE to view.
I have Firefox on my dock, but I rarely use it. I saw both FF and Chrome, and I tried both. Sorry Firefox but Chrome won me over. :D

Chrome is nice to my laptop battery. All the stuff I have of Firefox keeps my CPU running forever.
I still like some of the addons of Firefox tho, so I haven't completely separated from it. But Chrome is nifty.

This is the kind of thing that makes me want to work for Google. This & the amazing job benefits.
Using chrome as my main browser. Only things I like firefox for is the Greasemonkey support (which will one day come to Chrome) and plug-ins for games like Quake Live.
