Folks at Current.com say that this Hatsune Miku android is an "Evil Singing Robot Of Death" and that she "Should Be Smashed With A Hammer."

      Agreed.
      Im almost hoping that it was just the quality of the video that made it sound so horrible. Theoretically, shouldnt a robot be able to sing better than a human? Or at least just as well.. They'd have to record it somehow.. >_>;;

      BUT
      some songs sounds a lot better in Miku than in normal human, like Ievan Polkka and Hatsune Miku no Shoushitsu.

    I'm so used to Vocaloid voices now. XD But really, the voice depends on how well the person tunes it. You can get really crappy/robotic-sounding ones but you can also get really nice voices too.

    As for the actual robot... it's... still very robotic. The face is so stiff and all but I suppose I'm just asking for too much for a robot to move the same as a human. >.>;;

    It's still amazing that you can have a voice synthesiser.

    I think it was fine, the only reason the vid sounds bad it because the camera is to close to the speakers. And the creator was watching their child instead of the picture frame to make sure you can see her face in the vid. Clearly you can see how nervous they were by the shaking camera.

    And I know I have seen that face somewhere before, and I think she's cute.

    Actually this model is capable of moving around and was designed to be used as a moving mannequin and was used in a fashion show I hear. I guess it's the face combination with Miku's hair that isn't sitting well with me. Face needs to be reworked a bit. The normal model looked fine when I saw the photos.

    I find it funny that the music is being played on a Yamaha Disklavier which is a automated piano where the keys depress as it plays. It's not visible in this video but it's shown here: http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/08/yamahas-singing-robot-quietly-trolls-slyly-frightens-at-ceatec/

    I think the quality of this video isn't the best for sound so if I saw this in person then I'd give my opinion on the Hatsuna Miku android. I did see this on current first, and was laughing at the comments.

    The mech that runs the facial features is surprisingly pretty accurate. Although I'd have to agree that if they're going to use Hatsune Miku's voice (in some vids, I've seen them using Kagamine Rin's voice) they need to use an anime face. A traditional human face makes people want to chuck her into the uncanny valley. If we were at the presentation ourselves, we'd have no problem accepting the voice limitations. This is a recording of a recording of a recording problem. Quality is crap, so we shouldn't judge the audio. I'm waiting for the day when the balance gyros are so good, they can make the bot do MMD dance routines! Then we can talk about Chobits and love dolls and the effects on dolphins and what not!
