Japanese Foot Spa
When you don't have time to take a complete dip in a hot spring, you can always go for the foot spa also known as Ashiyu [足湯].

This Ashiyu spotted in Hokkaido on our recent trip.

Folks in the Tokyo/Yokohama area can get some foot spa at Manyo Club - write up of their facilities in the Onsen photo article.
You got any hot springs in your neck of the woods?
If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.
If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

That would be awesome if we had some decent onsens here in Sydney! Maybe one that has a nice view (kind of like 2nd photo above) that looks out over the harbour & city ^^

Is there even any volcanoes in Oz?
I think Westerners is still not so keen on the idea of the full fledged onsen experience, getting naked with other dudes lol.
student
a spa would be nice...
what we have here in some parts of Germany though are 'Kneip' wading pools xD they have cold (coooold) water and you're supposed to walk through them (the water is like knee-high) to stimulate the blood flow (I guess)...
call me a freak but I really like those, because it's so refreshing...
a spa would be more relaxing though^^°

Wish hot springs existed in my neck of the woods, or maybe I've just never seen any.

I found out that at Yodobashi Camera, you can try out the foot massage machine for 15 min at Health section of the store @_@ So whenever I'm tired, I can go there and relax my foot and of course you can use it longer if no one is around...
And there's massage chain at 5th floor and that's right, you can also use it for 15 min as well >_< When you don't want to get 30 min massage for 3000 yen or can't make it to hot spring, stop by your local(Akiba for me) Yodobashi Camera ^^;

wow, that's nice, i really need it last time i went to japan, only experience it at the onsen in nara

That ashiyu in the street looks like it would be nice after walking around town to check things out. I was wondering if the water is being circulated somehow. I think most people wouldnt want to use one if its the same water thats had like 30 different peoples feet in it.

Mmmm...hot springs!
Its getting to that time of year when it would be nice to go for one, but alas, there don't seem to be any around here....
Also, that's one impressive ferris wheel!

there are hot springs in my country, but too far for me. homemade foot spa like putting some hot water in a tub of water and dipping feet in them is more feasible.

I think there is a portable jacuzzi type feet spa device that you can buy and put it in your living room. Then you can have a foot spa while watching your favorite TV series or playing console games.

I've been to one in Canada - the spa cost about $8, but the foot bath outside was free.
I haven't seen any in the US, and I doubt they exist.

Your mum is right. While in San Francisco I found out about one specifically but they wanted $18-20! Also, there is something like a spa resort upstate New York always advertised on Korean TV. The pricing though is nuts. 800 yen is my limit and I had better not hafta where clothes. It's just not right! *Loves hot tubs!*

Have never been to a hot spring nor a spa before. I have haven't heard of any over here but I have a feeling it would be overkill in terms of price if it exists.

No hot springs in my neck of the woods. The closest I can get to a hot spring is a bathtub filled with hot water. ^^;

I remember going to a spa thing in China. There were lots of different kinds like ones made of various kinds of alcohol or ones with little fish that nip you everywhere. You're not naked though.

If I had known about that when I went to Yokohama during my spring break, I would have so gone!
But I don't think I would have had the courage to go bare feet when it was so windy and chilly out.

We don't have any real hot springs in Sweden, but there is a place called Yasuragi which is a Japanese style spa just outside Stockholm. You can check out some pics here: http://www.guidebook.se/?p=525 (not my blog and not real hot springs, but still nice)
Has anyone tried Doctor fish? I couldn't find any while I was in Japan.
