Filming for the BBC again at the office. Today I talk about the Otaku moe culture. Last time was in March - still waiting for the recording to arrive.

 title=

Have been asked to keep schtut about the piece until it airs this Thursday or Friday on the BBC 10PM news in the UK. Thats when its scheduled for but could be delayed.

Just like CNN, the BBC were here for a few hours but probably only a few seconds (?) will be used.

Now here is the fun part, the BBC have asked me to gather a bunch of Otaku in cosplay or carrying their daughters, dakimakura or what have you.
If you dont mind being on the BBC 10PM news and broadcasted all over the UK, please come to Akihabara station today at 18:50 at the UDX exit - its the same as the Electric Town exit but just turn right after the ticket barriers.

I told them that I would not organize a gathering (or do an interview) if the piece was going to be otaku-bashing and they promised that it would not be so.

The project leader for the gathering is Steven Nagata - please Twitter DM him if you have any questions.

The BBC cant pay for your attendance - or as they say in Japanese "No Gyara desu."
The organizer of this gathering is the BBC.

I will be in armor and probably stop off at the Volks store to pick something up for my daughters ^^;

 title=

Asia correspondent Alastair Leithead is happy with his new nendoroid puchi.

 title=

Darren is the cameraman - you can meet him later today.

 title=

And this is Darrens kit - cant remember how much it cost but remember being surprised when he told me.

BTW, announced this yesterday on my Twitter and will always announce gatherings and events there first.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

This item was posted in the Japan category. You can see more of everything else or subscribe via RSS instead.

    I think I get the BBC world new on PBS, but I'm not so sure how much of that is reused from the UK version braodcast -- if any.

    Also, sweet camera.

    The program will most likely be available to watch on the BBC's iPlayer service after broadcast;

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/categories/news

    Look for the 'News at 10' entry for Thursday.

    However I am not sure whether it will be available overseas, as it may be restricted to UK IP addresses. If so, somebody in the UK could always rip it & put it on youtube or similar.

    "I told them that I would not organize a gathering (or do an interview) if the piece was going to be otaku-bashing and they promised that it would not be so."

    Always good to be safe. I'd hate to be on camera when someone's bashing what I am. Good to hear. Although I can be optimistic that people won't do this sort of thing you just never know.

    On that note... I really wish I could be there with my Kyon cosplay XD

    I may come across as a cynical old fart, but part of me worries about how much of a freakshow they're going to make you and you friends look like. I know that the BBC is a classier act than american media (heck, american media can't even pronounce the words 'cosplay' correctly) but the scenes I've been been in have been burned a lot.

    Wow, Danny on the News at Ten.

    The CNN was one thing as it's an international broadcaster. But as the BBC is from Danny's home country, this means his dad would have a better chance to brag to his folks back home "That's my boy!".

    While I know their football coverage can be crap sometimes (or maybe it's just my prejudice whenever my Premier League team sounds like it's being unfairly bashed by them on 5-Live radio phone-ins), but I don't suppose the BBC would stoop so low like the Straits Times of Singapore and go bashing otakus for the sake of it, still, better to exercise caution and get on their good side. ^^

    it's hard to shake off that stigma off, even if it's the BBC we are talking abt here.
    nevertheless,in my opinion, any sort of publicity, be it good or bad will raise awareness of anime lovers amongst the general public.

    Hopefully it will be positive, i'm not sure if Japanorama with Jonathan Ross was on BBC or what channel, but it was pretty positive if not a little goofy. It seems like here in America (midwest specifically) the only time news covers something is when a negative aspect is attached. They'll say it won't be but then will edit it to look as bad as possible.
