Poor Virtua Fighter on the PS3 - 1,980 yen and nobody seems to want it.
My fave fighting game was Street Figher for the most part but then King Of Fighters arrived with a load of nice girlies.
Which is your fave fighting game and do you use a male or female character?

    I'll have to say my all-time favorite is Marvel Versus Capcom for the PlayStation. I never got bored of that game ^^;

I don't usually play VS games though. The last I played was Melty Blood -ReAct-.

As for characters I use.. Started with Megaman for MvC, then gradually moved to Gambit.. Then Captain Commando, which is still my favorite.
In Melty Blood.. I used girls, girls, girls. ^^; Unfortunately, can't remember their names.

Ah, Marvel Vs. Capcom... If only it had more playable characters, just like in the second, that I craved to play for years.
The main problem with the Vs. games (excluding Capcom vs SNK) is that supers are unleashed way too easily.
Though I'm completely and always gaga over crossovers, especially with characters from my Golden Age. ^^

my fave fighting game will and forever be KOF. as for using girlie characters you bet i do some of the girls have the most brutal combos ex. blue mary, mai shiranui, athena and such... since if i remember correctly blue mary had a combo in KOF2001 that can kill instantly!

Oh god, that move was so broken in 2003

if you connect, all the moves were automatic and the most powerful finisher really did take most of the opponents life.
At least in 2001 , they balanced it by forcing the player to input a specific sequence of button presses in a specific timing so you really had to work for the damage level.

KoF... My favorite fighting game as well. I do remember dueling against my cousin on that (mainly KoF 98 and 2000) and Street Fighter Zero 3. I most always won, even if it was about close victories.
      Now about killer SDMs (Super Desperate Moves), I do remember about Orochi Yagami's one... (Inspired from Evangelion?) and Xiangfei's fury which goes over 100 hits. ^^;

      Which SF is your favorite?
For me, SF Zero 3 for the ultimate crossover between Alpha and SF II characters but also World Tour and Dramatic Mode (though I disliked the look of the stages and custom themes... SF Zero 2 was much better on that) and EX II for its 3D.
And for the classics? Super Street Fighter II (never could try the Turbo one... you know with Gouki/Akuma) for its Tournament mode.
I didn't like SF III and am not in a rush to discover SF IV.

A friend of mine, total console geek, did always make me play such fighting games against him... Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat from SNES over to PSX Tekken and so on... since i totaly suck with these i did always choose the clown characters... so i had at least a bit to laugh when they did their spasm attacks. ;) (I had a hell of a laugh when i did see Raydens electro shock-melee attack on SNES Mortal Kombat 2 ... it's like he does put his hand in a power plug lol)
Even more funny was it when i (how ever i did it) DID actually beat him lol...

I had the game for a while, and then I sold it haha. I didn't really like the game very much, perhaps the fighting mechanics were too complex for me, lol. It also bugged me that the PS3 was the inferior version compared to the 360 one. :/

Ah, poor VF indeed. But, the home game experience isn't the same as an Arcade one, especially considering that the PS3 version does NOT have online play (which the 360 has). Not surprising that it's on sale.

I love fighting games, even the crappy ones. I'll put a vote for Masaya's Ranma 1/2 part 2 for the Super Famicom. Loved how the characters were animated.

Technically the original SNK died and was taken over by Playmore (around the time after KoF 2000 was released), and they generally made the series worse... *sighs* 2002 wasn't that bad though.
So if you say the following games sucked, I'm quite not surprised.

Well i think the problem is that unfortunatly Ps3 doesn't have the online feature that is awesome on the xbox360 verion. Basically the two versions are the same. I think VF5 is very a very welldone fight game, the collision system force you to play for each character in a specific way, the "smach button don't work"^^ and evry character is enjoyable somehow.
The graphyc is topnoch and evt single texture and poligon it right were it must be.

Personally i love Tekken, the speed for me is the key, not too fast as DOA not so tactic based as VF5.

Even Soulcalibur is on my list. But this time i think i'll prefer the Ps3 version becouse it'll have as bonus character Darth Vader, on the 360 version there will be Yoda... :-(

2D fighters - Streetfighter 3 3rd strike. Accept no substitute. Though KoF neowave and XI were pretty fun.

3D fighters - Still Virtua Fighter. i did really like Dead or alive for the fighting system as well as it's predominanly female cast but DoA4 was a travisty and completely lost the balance which made the previous 2 games fun. Tekken completely lost it after T3.

Not surprised about the fate of VF5 on the PS3 seeing as Sega released what is, essentially, an unfinished product. I hope they release the latest revision on PS3 and add the stuff they didn't bother to put in the first version.

Uhm, I belive VF is the most played fighting saga in Japan... I have the XBOX 360 version, because is better in details like jugability, don`t metion the on-line versus option, not included in PS3 version...

I love figting games, I have played most of the important sagas like Tekken or King of Fighters, or lest know games like Spectral vs Generation or Bloody Roar. For 3-D games, my favorite is the mentioned VF, more realistic jugability and characters fighting style, and on 2-D, hmm, I can`t decide clearly, maybe Guilty Gear, because for 2-D game, is very complete, and the characters are amaizing!

One favorite character? Imposible only one! Each game have at least one character I loveadmire...

All time favorite has to go to the Street Fighter series. There are many great fighting games out there that deserve a mention though: Soul Calibur, Mortal Kombat (the older games, not the recent ones), Guilty Gear, Dead or Alive, and of course, my 2nd all time favorite fighter... Super Smash Bros.

Street Fighter III: Third Strike for me. Amazing refined gameplay, love using Makoto.

I also love Garou Mark of the Wolves. Best SNK fighting game without a doubt. Terry and Rock owns all!

Garou MOTW is the best imho... Even if they had to ditch great characters and put some gimmicky ones (Hokutomaru WTF?) but Kim Kaphwan's sons, Hotaru, Gato, Rock and Terry do rule!

I say that KOF, Rival Schools Project Justice on the Dreamcast, and Marvel VS Capcom is probably the best. Never could get the hang of Guilty Gear. I wish I could find a spare AV plug for my DC though...

My favourite fighting games are either Melty Blood or Guilty Gear, in which I play Ciel and Sol respectively. One male and one female, I suppose.

I really liked Mortal Kombat III (Ultimate, Trilogy)! I spent A LOT of money on that game in the arcade. Damnn, it's actually been a while since I played it... Now I don't play any games.

Good taste danny! I too love KOF, and I guess I typically do a 50/50 split of female/male characters.

Tried VF 5 (in a shop) and found it really meh. I could never get the passion for it (or DOA, either).
    For me, my favorites remain:
2D: Street Fighter (minus the Movie, SF III), KoF (1995 to 2000), Guilty Gear, Fatal Fury (Special, Real Bout 1 and MOTW), Samurai Shodown...
Pseudo 3D: Super Smash Bros. Series.
3D: Soul Calibur, Tekken (especially the third), SF EX I & II.
And maybe a few others I might have forgotten...

3D fighting games besides Tekken are all pretty much lame. And that price is nothing. We all know what happened to Dirge of Cerebus. I got that game in the bargain bin for 10 bucks! Wusaaa!

I was never really good at fighting games, and usually at arcades I rather be playing those shooters/sports/racing games. However, I do enjoy some fighting games, mainly Eternal Fighter Zero (Using Key's games characters, Ayu 50 hit combo ftw! ) and Melty Blood (Sion owns!)

Virtua Fighter players rather go to the arcade like Club Sega in Akihabara or something.

Favorite will always be Street Fighter with my character Ryu. A close second character is Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury and KoF. I love fighting games so much. Can't wait for Street Fighter 4 this summer.

First ones that pop up when the topic is fighting games are:
    Street Fighter 2
    Mortal Kombat
    Killer Instinct

Spent lots of time on those.

But since this is DannyChoo, I'd like to mention:

    Eternal Fighter Zero
    Melty Blood
    Arcana Heart
