Figma Drossel gets glowing eyes with the work of Kodomut - check out his tutorial on how he done it.

Would love to do this for my Ironman.

"Anyway the Data wires are useless. You’ll need to twist the BLACK, GREEN and WHITE cables together to form a single wire"
This sounds wrong. Here is what you are supposed to do:
    red: +5V
    black: 0V (aka ground)
green and white should be left floating/unconnected. The easiest way to do this is to cut the cable so there aren't any free copper.

The reason why you should do it like this is you want power from the computer while you will not make noise on the data lines. Imagine that you mess up the data line and then your USB flash drives unmounts because the communication is interrupted. Just connecting the power wires will honour the USB standard and then it shouldn't cause any problems for other devices. Just stay below 2,5W.

It is recommended that you use a current limiting resistor is series with the LED's. I've used 330 ohm SMT resistors for small work, or regular discreet ones where space isn't an issue. you can adjust the value up or down to adjust the brightness of the LED.

I sort of did something like this last fall with a 3" tall Wall-E. I cut the back off and mounted a 1 gig usb memory stick. I wired two LED's into the "cameras" and connected them to the board in place if the Read/write LED. Replaced the big USB connector with a mini-usb connector mounted in the back panel, and just plug in a matching cable when I want to access the thumb drive.

With the cable out, he looks no different than the stock toy except for four tiny wires snaking up to the head.
