Good Design Award - what is it?

The Good Design Award is a movement to seek out good design and endorse it to society at large; the contact point between this movement and society is the "G Mark." The G Mark is both a logo that indicates the receipt of a Good Design Award, and a means of communication that links society and design. (more)

And whats the Good Design Expo?
Good Design Expo is one of the biggest design events in Asia. The event presents items subject to the 2nd screening of Good Design Award. More than 2,000 items that surrounds our life and society - from family groceries to passenger cars or construction - are presented in a huge space of 17,000 square meters in Tokyo Big Sight. (details of event)

On the 18th of August (today) at Tokyo Midtown Roppongi, there will be a press event for the Good Design Expo in collaboration with YuruYuru Gadget Night where folks from Twitter, Fon, Eye-Fi, Poken, Skype, Chumby and Cnet. The event takes place from 18:00 and I would like to invite dannychoo.com readers to come along and network with these folks to make new comrades and maybe discover new opportunities.

The location is the A971 cafe ( http://www.a971.com/ ) located at Tokyo Midtown. Address and map here > http://www.tokyo-midtown.com/en/access/index.html

Any of you can come along but folks who smell of pee are not allowed in (not my decision). I will be there early for the press conference which starts at 17:00 but I beleive that is for press folks only. I think I'm due to be there with a certain figure maker.

Entrance is free. No smoking. Event finishes about 20:00. Hope some of you can make it! Bring your business/name card and don't forget your Poken if you have one > http://www.doyoupoken.com/PokenWeb/corporate/howdoesitworks.jsf

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.

I feel the same. It seems like the rest of the world doesn't really seem to take much notice in things quite like Japan does.

Is this exclusive to Japan? I'm looking at past winners and they are all of Japanese origin. If this is indeed for Japan only, the mission statement: "a movement to seek out good design and endorse it to society at large" seems a bit misleading.
