This Wednesday (22nd) will be when the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century can be seen from the southern tip of Japan.
Folks on the southern islands of Yaku-shima, Amami-shima and Akiseki-shima will see the total eclipse for a duration of about 6 mins at 11:00.

Folks in Tokyo will be able to enjoy a partial solar eclipse of about 70% which will start at 09:55 and be at peak at about 11:12. Lets hope the weathers is decent.
Anybody here witnessed an eclipse in their lifetime so far? I will be up at our other office roof top ^o^

A report on the lead up to our Total Eclipse meaning some interesting monetization ideas including "Total Eclipse noodles."

I have seen a lunar eclipse once. It was very, very late at night. The moon was red-ish but dimly lite because of a layer of thin clouds.

Never seen a solar eclipse though. The longest solar eclipse in the century and I don't get to see it. T.T

Yes I have, it was some years ago though, I think 2001. It wasn't a full eclipse (Engeland had the full eclipse), Belgium had a partial eclipse. I followed it on TV. It's really strange, it really gets dark outside.

Apart from that one, I've had a few small partial eclipses. None of great significance.

The eclipse I witnessed was in Ohio 1993. The sunlight that made it through the tree leaves looked like hundreds of little crescent moons on the sidewalk twinkling. I think it was a 70% eclipse. The ramen bowl though - kowai, I would try it just because of that. It's probably a lot healthier then most food I eat anyway.

x_X Hoping I can ask for leave for a couple minutes, or maybe drag my co-workers out along with me. Not everyday you can see an eclipse, after all, and I'm actually in Hong Kong where it's supposed to be a good place to see it.

Does anyone remember what's needed to look at the eclipse safely though? I seem to recall being told in elementary that you still need sunglasses. Or something.

My advice would be to never, never look directly at an eclipse without some kind of filter rated for such viewing. And never with raw binoculars or telescopes, they usually have a warning on them, pay attention to it. If it's going to be 100% eclipse then MAYBE at the apogee of the event with unaided eyes, but NEVER with telescopes or binocular without solar filters.
If you have ever used a magnifying glass during a sunny day to burn holes in paper, then you have a good idea what the lenses in your eyes will do to your retinas looking at the sun.
A few searches on your favorite search engine should give some good inexpensive ideas. Or if you have some friends who are in to astronomy, they can help or might have the things you need.
And have FUN! It's a memorable experience. (^v^)

Hearing about eclipses remind me of that few episode of Heroes where the eclipse happened. I'm also reminded how dumb some of those scenes were... The eclipse there seemed to last forever, lol.

I may have seen an eclipse back in Jakarta or here... either way I was still very young.

I've seen one when i was younger, in my school days. I don't remember very well.. except for the part when they tell us "Don't look directly into it" since apparently it's bad for your eyes, even though it might not seem bright... or something. So of course, what did we all do when we were young Primary School kids? we looked!
