Hijacking for a few reasons:-
-Love to share experiences of members from all over the world - whether they are shopping or events or whatever.
-Me likes looking at all the 2D girlie stuff and want to know what that white box is near the bottom of the photo of the girl lying down with what looks like an "X" in the bottom right corner ^^;
-I also see my fave Dacapo girl - Coco-chan.
-Wanted to share with folks who keep complaining about the member news section and in particular those who point out the loot photos.
I remember reading how a few members ranted on their burogu about the loot photos. I then looked at their past member news and saw loot photos! Their loot photos must have been of a higher caliber. Hmmmm.
Also, there is no such thing as "Newsworthy" items for member uploads anymore - because I just renamed it to "Member Stuff." ^^;
Members have earned uploading permissions and share what they want to share - not what specific members deem is suitable or not.
I guess there will now be the jaded member complaining that posts are not "Stuffworthy."

Anyway, going back to the loot photo and looking at previous loot snaps - is it that countries closer to Japan get much more selection in terms of goods available? Or do folks in Europe, US, UK and other parts of za warudo also get good selections too?

        Yep, it's next to impossible to find any anime-related goods in shops, everything has to be imported. At least for me in Wales, UK, it does. And customs is a ***** to pay, with the Royal Mail charging £8 handling fee on any customs item (above £18 value).

    I actually had been holding back on loot buying for a while due to some impending plans ^^; *ahem* In Singapore there's tons of stuff from Japan, quite easily accessible ^^ Here, otaku loot is quite accessible too but feels that sometimes they are slightly overpriced due to expensive importing and shipping fees ^^; and plus taxes... talk about cherry on icing *sarcastic* :P

    Member stuff huhu good rename lol! Some of my pictures feel more relevant nao! XD

    In Hong Kong? Plenty. In Toronto? Less. A *lot* less. ^^;

    As for "Member Stuff" - I admit it, I laughed when I first saw it on the front page. ^^; Looks like tenrou's post raised an issue that did need addressing after all. Not sure if it'll change much, but it's definitely a clear statement of your intention and opinion. That's as much as can be done, anyway. :P

      Yea, I was a bit confused as well about the use of member uploading rights... I have no complain about loot posts, But sometimes I am a bit baffled with random posts without purpose, news or anything whatsoever... I don't think I'm one of the ranter though... I hope...^^

      But I guess Danny made it clear, as long as you have the right, the content is not a copy of previous post, not controversial, and not a Sankaku re-post, then it's fine... But still, personally, I still hope for members to be a little selective on what they upload... I'm not talking about whether the content is good or not... but whether there's any content at all, or not. I remember there's a post about how the poster feeling down, being nostalgic on a game, etc... basically random stuffs people usually post at puchi....

    Unfortunately the selection of otaku goods around here (Milwaukee, WI), are absolutely terrible. You simply have to resort to online purchases for any decent otaku goods....either that, or travel to Japan, which isn't exactly likely to ever happen for me.

    I wish we had something worthwhile here... i use webshops in japan for the real stuff.

    Most of the items you can get here are way overpriced... i mean... a keystrap for 3-5 Euros which usualy costs only 100 or 200 Yen... (the Yen price tag was even still on it) i admit i bought one cuz it was Shiraishi... but still... ><!

    Not to mention most of the items here are outdated, but i guess thats because the shops think (or for the masses it's maybe even true) that we are behind Japan in case of up-to-date anime.
    And of course the selection of items is rather thin too... :/

    *sigh*

    Importing, taxes and all is a huge pain.
    Cheaper to move to Japan on the long term view. ;)

    Well, Hawaii's quite close to Japan, and we've got a fair amount of options of getting such merchandise and other various Japanese goods (obviously). Well, as far as I know, O'ahu would be the best place to get ani!manga related merchandise. The places I regularly go to, however, don't order much of the figures I am looking for, which is why I stick to buying online. Sometimes I can find better deals online, as well.

    That is, quite a bit of loot. I can't quite imagine how people carry all that back though, i'd imagine that basic living items are kept to a minimum or they've paid for extra luggage weight.
    Also Rock, i'd like to know what areas you found all those goods in, i'm heading back to Taiwan to go see relatives and new house in a few months.
    Loot news is always good, you get to see other people's experiences and most importantly, if you ever plan to visit specific country where goods were obtained, you can ask and find out which areas they were purchased.

    Neotokyo.biz used to have a brick-and-mortar store based in Manchester, but they closed it down to go completely online. A couple of chain stores in Manchester and Concord have an okay selection of manga, but there's not much available in my area for anime/manga collectibles in my area. I think the variety of loot in a country depends on the resourcefulness of the retailer here. There's the customs people we have to deal with so in most cases, we end up having to give up a left tit or testicle just to rescue our little pretties from their evil clutches.

    Ok in regards to the kind and quality of loot available in the states it really is very limited unless you can find a specialty store which there are very few. One that I know of called Wizzywig collectibles is located in Ann Arbor Michigan and compared to comic book stores they carry a sizeable collection but when it comes down to it they carry very very little. Loot in the states tends mostly to be dvd's and a few figures here and there and manga that you can find at two national bookstore chains.

      Just noticed that they have moved from the downtown location to one near the municipal airport and only have weekend hours now. Prior to this they were open 7 days a week and had a decent customer base served by college students and 1 - 12 grade school students. The economy in Michigan is in the worst shape out of all the states in the US which could be one part of the reason for poor business but it could also have to do with the decline of anime here in the states and the cheaper prices for dvd's at stores like Best Buy or more importantly walmart.com.

    Here in Italy we don't get much - only the mainstream figures and such (even though, the term mainstream is not really appropriate... I've never seen Figma or Nendoroid, for example). In most cases, they are really overpriced. I've seen Takara Tomy figures at 500/600 Yen in Japan, while the same are sold at a much higher price (25 Euro, about 34.5 USD) in stores here.

    I was surprised though to see the Shunya Yamashita Rei Ayanami, at a quite decent price, in a big non-otaku related store (electronics, video, etc - they started to sell a small selection of japanese figures as well). I was debating get or not get, since the box was a little too ruined...

    Wow you got a ton of dakimakuras and so many new released items. Love your tastes! In Sydney there's nothing really. That's why I have to resort to buying online, but most of the exclusive items are sold out. We got like 2 anime conventions here but they are small and sell pretty much no good figures. If they had figures for sale,they are really old and unpopular ones. Never seen dakimuras, oppai mouse pads for sale. Although we do have a kinokuniya store but prices are very high,I can get the same item online for even cheaper! Sux to be so far from japan

    Sigh, we don't get the cool stuff around here. Figures and models yeah, but the otaku stuff is mostly Knock-off posters, SD figurines, and badly made cellphone charms. None of the quality items like the ones I saw in Singapore, like cups, trading cards, fanbooks, tins, etc etc...

    That being said, the prices I saw for those things are outrageous! Man, I was hoping to overload my bag, but I didn't get anything because I couldn't justify the price. Sigh, I so did want to get that Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee cup... I guess only a local can really afford that.

    I like Danny's philosophy regarding member's "stuff". As long as it's reasonably relevant to the spirit of the website and no one's being abusive, let them have fun with what they post. I don't care for when people take an elitist attitude over what others do.

    I appreciate the loot photos although I'm not a collector of otaku goods, because I enjoy seeing what people are passionate about.

    Oh, I also wanted to ask, when you're from out of the country and you buy an epic TON of loot like this, how do you get it home?

    Do you carefully pack it, or do you have it shipped home? I think I'd choose shipping rather than have a customs officer inspect my goodies. Also, who knows what could happen if you check your bag...

    And if you ship it, do most people use the Japanese postal service, or a company like FedEx? And I assume you insure it, correct?

    I envy the people that are easily able to purchase otaku goods. Otaku goods here are limited to a limited selection of Gundam figures, Naruto headbands and bleach related stuff. Not much stuff besides that. Going online is the only way but shipping is always so costly when its going to Australia.

    Honestly, most of the time you just have to know where to get your goodies ^^ in taiwan, at a big bookstore you may find a few Japanese magazines, and toy stores would have collections of Gundam, but much of the other stuff may be much harder to find at general shops.

    Otaku goodies in Montreal?! Probably not... unless if it's at a anime convention. And the Chinatown in my hometown is chock full of posters (KO and some pretty nice ones too), models, cell charms/keychains, playing card decks and KO anime/J-pop CDs/DVDs (*gasp*).

    Nice haul, truly stuffworthy. In the Uk it is hard to findanime stuff if you don't know where to look. Personally i use ebay UK a lot for figs, I do not get charged by customs if its from ebay. But I also order a lot from hlj and customs seem to be on to me as i am always charged, the only package that did'nt get charged was one from HW japan, probably because of the plain boxes. Another thing that annoys me is when hlj send the parcels in several boxes, I get charged multiple times for this, even if its just for 1 order.

    Really wish these sorts of places were more ubiquitous where I live since having a local shop for this would help out so much instead of being a nightmare to have to pay customs and shipping while hoping the goods don't get lost or are hijacked by pirates. And even if they don't the shipping costs are pretty obscene :(
