I'm really amazed at how they can feel so completely comfortable sleeping like that.

I don't think I will ever allow myself to fall asleep in public ever even if its safe to do so, the one that is more likely to happen to me is falling asleep in on the train.
Often fell asleep when I first started going to my university during the one hour commute didn't have license parents drove instead.

The first one died while eating ramen.
The second one had a really bad tummy.
The third ones were all drunk.
The fourth one just got fired.
The fifth one ate too much.
The sixth one got thrown out by his girlfriend.
The seventh one died from overwork.
The eighth one was waiting for his wheelchair.
The ninth one was praying to the gods.
The tenth one is just having a good sleep.
The eleventh one is playing the new PSP Go which is so small you can't see it.
The twelve one had too much health materials.
And the last one just got sick of trooping around.

Japan : You can sleep any where.

I have been known to sleep on the hard flooring of clients' offices and warehouses. Taking a jacket with you no matter what the weather is like, helps in the comfort department. A room is best and a secretary that will stop people from bothering you is essential.

some of those people are drunk HAHAH. They should be careful when having gadgets while sleeping, once I did that in school and someone put a paper on my laptop that said "out of order" as a joke.

I find a lot of people sleeping on trains and buses around here. I often doze off too.

That is insane. I'd be too afraid of losing anything valuable on me or something happening to me while im passed out cold. Then again, maybe that's just because of the difference of locales but even then, I'd be way too paranoid!

LOL looks like you can sleep almost anywhere in Japan. Dunno why, but I would love to see someone sleep outside the police station.

I totally understand these people just falling asleep... I fell asleep under a tree during the middle of an anime convention in cosplay simply because i was tired and worn out from the heat

They sure really tired ^^, but I have to admit that I sleep too when I take the subway to go to the University cuz sometimes the University exams are very difficult and I don't sleep the day before the exam cuz I was studying. But the trooper slept was so fun :):):)

I always sleep when i'm travelling by train and bus.

When I was in Japan I was asleep all the time on the train, it just feels really safe so happens quite easily.

Being that tired can't be healthy. Mugging people must be realy easy in Japan, folks falling asleep in public all over the place... ^^;

I can never fall asleep anywhere. Unless I have a jet lag and it's getting late, then I do need to watch out. But otherwise, almost impossible (and certainly can't sleep on a plane...)

pretty amusing. the face in the ramen almost seems to good to be true! Folks in my neck of the woods would not even blink for fear of someone stealing their things. I am quite amazed they (who are not drunk) enjoy this level of relaxation in public.

Some of these sleepers(?) are in such a ridiculous position and place I can't help but think it's because of Narcolepsy.

After reading the post about renting a flat in Tokyo and the insane costs, maybe this is what all the people who can't afford it do? My favourite picture has to be the ramen pillow and of course Mr Sleep Trooper :p

Funny, but it must be embarassing for them. The worst place I've ever accidentally slept was on the steps outside the school. Thankfully, no one took a picture. Well, one kid did, but "lost" their camera on the walk home. Oh dear. I honestly had nothing at all to do with the way that camera ended up in a garden five meters from there. It must have fallen out of her pocket and the wind carried it over! Yes, the wind!

Wish i could sleep like that, only been able to sleep ine bed and when it night. Quite impossible for me to sllep during the day.

With Tokyo and Japan in general being as safe as it is theres no wonder people sleep in public. No worries of being robbed or beat up.Cant imagine myself falling asleep in NYC or San Fran like that...

Usually one can only sleep where they feel safe, mostly in the home but I suppose if alcohol is involved then passing out anywhere is quite possible haha.

Fallen asleep on school bus, city bus, bus stop, class room, movie theater, club ( never let yourself do this ) party ( never let yourself do this either ) beach ( be sure to have on some sun screen or better yet be covered with a towel or sun shade ) campus lawn under a tree.

Some people are quite comfortable with sleeping on the subway here (including me ^^;). Of course there is the possibility of getting your stuff stolen but it doesn't seem to happen often and you obviously don't leave your valuables out in the open. That's just asking for it in NYC.

Why are Japanese people so tired?

I do sleep on the train or bus while getting home but not on the streets....

I've never been that tired before, well maybe falling asleep on a bus, or at the park, or...

Ive never seen a person actually sleep in their food. I thought it was only in television or some kind of comedy.
