From the show Deadliest Warrior, they pit two of the most feared warriors civilization has ever known against each other. Using the latest in CGI technologyand science, each episode enlists warrior-specific world-class fighters and experts to provide insight into what makes these combatants tick, analyzing every facet of their unique skills of destruction, culminating in a head-to-head final fight between two legends of the battlefield that will produce the deadliest warrior. The Japanese finest warriors in history fight against Europe's most fierce warriors. Let the fight begin!!!!

Who would win in a fight to the death, a Ninja or a Spartan warrior?
Spartan Weapons: Short Sword, Spear, Javelin, Shield.
Ninja Weapons: Ninjato, Black egg, Blowgun (Fukibari), Shuriken, Kusarigama.

Who would win in a fight to the death, a Samurai or a Viking warrior?
Viking Weapons: Great Axe, Long Sword, Spear, Shield
Samurai Weapons: Katana, Naginata, Yumi, Kanabo

How do you think these fights played out, did you choose the victor or are you mad that your guy lost?

I've seen samurai vs viking twice, but I've never seen ninja vs spartan

They said great axe > katana, even though the samurai clearly killed the viking with the katana. That battle was more down to luck though, but if the samurai shot the viking in the eye it'd be GG right there, whereas the spear couldn't pierce the samurai armor. Still, it was 52:48 for the samurai, and that was close.

Ninjas were never meant to fight like that, and shurikens were meant more as distractions rather than actual weapons. However, if Spartans ran around only in briefs (like in 300), then the ninja would probably have won 100% of the time.

It’s like what that guy said at the end about the ninja, “the ninja would just run away and come back and kill him in his sleep.” and that's the best way to defeat your enemy.

i think the ninja and the spartan hoplite aren't really meant to fight each other. I mean their fighting styles and purposes in war are very different. The ninja is used for assassinations, reconnaissance and spying. While the Spartan Hoplite is used for absorbing charges from enemy infantry and cavalry while the spartan allies attack the flanks and back.

x_x I find this all very fake and contrived, though I suppose it can't be helped. In my opinion the comparisons can't be made - the ninja should've just blowguned the Spartan to begin with instead of hopping out of the tree. There's also the issue of group tactics - some of these guys are meant to be fighting as part of a huge unstoppable force.

And seriously, any "tests" they do and any "numbers" they gather can't be accurate unless they have a fully-trained example of each of them from the height of their respective time periods...something that just isn't possible.

As a fun comparison, though? Fight all you want. Then meet the greatest warrior of our time. A man with a gun.

While it was not from our time period, they actually did an episode with a man with a gun, it was a pirate vs a medieval knight and the pirate used a gun to kick the knight’s booty. Newer technology wins out over outdated armor.

I watched that knight vs pirate episode and was in disbelieve when they said that the pirate won. That is like saying a "freedom fighter" will come out on top against a "soldier". But a soldier never fights alone.

I know that gun powder wins, but probably not during the flint lock era...1700s? Knights fight with an army, they won't be "alone" when fighting a pirate, or pirates. The pirate will be running for his life before the fight even began.

I wouldn't necessarily call pirates "warriors" in the first place. But it was a good show.

They never said much about the "computer simulation" neither, how was the battle simulated? But it's still a good show to watch to kill some time.

From the few screenshots of the computer, it looks like some kind of spreadsheet program. I agree that the pirate won because of tech, but I think their tests are somewhat flawed. But it's fun to watch.

well this show is just a "for fun" thing to me. these comparisons are so for real battle menaics who just wanted some high tech stuff to calculate who would win.

    for the ninja vs spartan
-spartans would actually raid their target in masses, while ninjas are really the kind of spammable foot soldiers, ninjas are more of elite killers. and spartans fight in the morning and ninjas more at night

-seriously which army would march through the forest, get sperated from the army alone and meet with a ninja who would go on a head on fight? the ninja might probably have use all his ranged weps to kill his target.

-spartans are more of killing many number of targets while ninjas are aiming for one person.

as for the samurai vs viking... i was LOLing my way through to not have paid any proper attention

Completely agree with this comment. There's no way a ninja would attempt a head on one-on-one conflict. On top of that, their whole calculation system seems based on pitting equivalent weapons from each opposing side against each other. This whole <side A> vs <side B> thing seems to be along the same lines as those dream fights I see popping up across Internet forums (i.e. Goku vs Superman)

Ninja vs Spartan was pretty one-sided IMO, there's a reason why a ninja is unarmored and dressed in black and it's not to give him good luck in direct combat. Ninja weapons are mostly for kills from unexpected directions or ambushes (blowpipe to the neck), so... Sparty wins.

Samurai vs Viking was closer. Rigid military training against raw combat experience, though if the samurai was uber skilled with his bow, well, there goes the Viking. Also, nice depiction of katana usage; a well-made katana makes crazy cuts, so the leg tendons make very inviting targets.

I think that they are doing these so off comparisons so that people will get angry and come back for the next season to see the real fights. For example, why did they choose the morning star for the knight, when clearly on horseback he would be using a lance.
