Its been 5 years since the last attraction opened at Tokyo Disney Land (known over here as TDL) and hordes of Disney fans lined up for over 5 hours to ride on the new 4 min Monsters Inc attraction.

T'was on the news last night where reporters interviewed folks queuing up. One family said they got there at 3AM in the morning. Disney otaku?
News and a few more pics at Sankei with CM for the attraction below.

Been to Tokyo Disney Land many many many moons ago when I came to Japan as a student. Never been back since although my wife loves the place and goes quite often with comrades.
I do read from many of your blogs that TDL ends up being on your visit list. Its very near Narita airport.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

would be interesting to see how Japanese Culture has been injected into the Disney culture. Been to HK Disney and it was rather fun. Interestingly so that the parade had some HK influences

Not much of a theme park person, though. At Busch I spend most of my time just wandering around, enjoying the atmosphere, never riding any rides. Never even ridden a rollercoaster.

Of course, having to work at that place one summer kinda really burned me out on it forever, probably.

    being to Tokyo Disney Land
    was fun and worth it
though...waiting for the rides is a different case
but seems like the japanese has no qualms waiting in queue as compared to the gaijins
they just chat away with frens while waiting

and most of them a fully accesorized with disney accesories (mickey mouse ears hairband.. you get the idea) almost immediately they reach disney

also i miss the snack they sell at those stores by the roadside inside. its a long stick of bread with choco powder on it. anyone knows what is it called?

It is amazing to see roller coaster/theme park enthusiasts. I would never go to wait in line for a roller coaster's opening, that 1-2 minute (4 minute in this case) thrill does not justify for the hour(s) you have to wait in line. That's just me, though I know many people who are willing to wait hours on end for that 1-2 minutes of thrill.

Ah, Monsters Inc! My first fandom. XD No, seriously. Now the old MI fan in me is squealing, wanting to get on this ride.

I've never heard the Japanese dub for the film before even though I've tried to find it. Sulley sounds really close to the original English voice, but Mike. . . whaaa? Yikes!

It did take them quite some time to get this going, didn't it? A little under seven and a half years, given that it was released November 2 2001. (Scary that I know that off the top of my head.)

TDL was kinda boring for me coz we didn't get to enjoy a lot of the attractions (most were filled with queues that would last at least an hour). in the end, i think i only rode on a total of 3 rides out of the whole day (took a break in the middle to rush to Akiba to get more stuff on my 2nd to last day in Tokyo) but luckily, i managed to ride on the supposedly best attraction in TDL, which was Pooh's Hunny Hunt. pretty worth it i'd say!

i do hope TDW isn't the same else i'd be majorly disappointed as well on missing on so many attractions.

I live in California, there's a Disney Land here. Sure it might be a bit different, but it's close enough. Disney World is a different story though. That was really quite different.

yup... it's almost identical.... Didn't check out the Disney World tho... ^^; When I was there, We were hard-pressed for time...

I think the difference is Japan got Tokyo Disney Sea, while Cali got Disney World... dunno about French and HK, never been there before...

When I went to TDL, it was raining heavily... it's like a gale there.... I remember when we went to a some kind of tunnel, near Cinderella Castle if i'm not mistaken... the tunnel became somewhat similar to a wind tunnel, lots of people, had their umbrella blown by the wind, we're close to losing our umbrella too.... It was autumn...

Me of course, pay no heed to the umbrellas and just pay close attention to all onee-chans having their skirt blown by the wind... >:)

But yea, thanks to the storm, the TDL was not as packed as it should be, considering it's during holiday...

My fave attraction was Haunted Mansion, and Indiana Jones at Tokyo Disney Sea.... But seriously, they need to add at least English subtitles to some of their attraction... XC

Almost all my friends, girls that is, that went to Japan, went to TDL. I really don't why they would, for me it'd be really...less magical I guess? It probably has to do with the fact that once each years from when I was 4 through 15 years old, I went to Orlando's Disney parks. So a part from being different from the USA's ones, I don't think I'd really find anything fun... Of course at least over in Japan you won't get a part of the park that's for an americanized view of Japan like in Epcot Center <(*ΦωΦ*)>ニャwww

I'm a complete Disney otaku and I absolutely love TDL. I used to work at a Walt Disney World retailer and the merchandise and all things aesthetic are of a much better quality at the TDR. The holiday decorations and parade costumes for Halloween were also particularly good, in my opinion. The Japanese parks have a much higher eye for small details in props, rides, and decorative figure dioramas. Can't wait to go back sometime~

Been to TDL last year, and it was horrible. Had to queue up for almost 4 hours in the freezing weather for a 5 minute ride which wasn't exciting at all. Universal Studios was much, much nicer. Should have spent that whole day in Akihabara instead of Disneyland =.="

I'd rather go to Tokyo Disney sea than Disneyland... My last trip to Disney world a couple years ago was quite disappointing. All the magic from when I was a kid was gone, and everything is very controlled due to higher security now. I wonder if Tokyo is the same way.

Been to DisneyWorld many times.Used to go twice a year, always so much to see and do. Could never get old. Just my opinion. Does the TDL have fast pass like the other parks? If it does then you don't have to quque just go back at the time on your pass and you can get right in.At epcot they have set up an area around the lake for all the different countries Japan, China etc. For Japan they have set up a Mitsukoshi dept store with a restrurant on top floor and the store on the bottom. That's where i bought my first Ramune Soda,Pocky and other Japanese souvineers.
Have stayed at the Disney hotels was great also. If you want to read a good book read Walts book, very inspirational.

Also been to universal studios that's a place to ride the movies it's great also. Ihave many of the oins that are sold at Disney, they are highly collectable and people will trade with you.
So yes I'm a Disney Otaku!

I only know Tokyo Disney Land for one thing and that is that they tell their workers to smile all the time. People aren't mentally designed to smile when they aren't in the mood for it and as a result some of their workers can't stop smiling and goes to psychiatrists. They complain about stuff like seeing a horrible traffic accident and they ended up doing nothing but stand next to it and smile.

TDL isn't the only place who has that rule. However they started it in Japan and they were the ones to get the first cases of long term effects of it.

Actually I've went to disney land in the states even once. Had a chance to go there during my senior year in high school but thought that, that money could be used for something better and would also be cheaper to go there with family or friends instead of the whole graduating class, and I'm not going to pay a load of munny for the bus fee when I can get there cheaper by paying for my own gas.
