Its Mio day today as you can see. Ayu sensei (who manages the Mirai manga whips up a cutie Mio illustration.
Thanks for all your feedback on the Manga. I particularly like suggestions of the manga teaching Japanese culture. Mirai lands in Japan and encounters culture which she is not familiar with - even though she has a Japanese name and speaks Japanese ^^; As the story progresses, we learn much about the culture - everything from sub-culture to daily life. This makes it more than just a manga - anybody can read and learn.

Found this in my scraps folder and forgot about it xD Drew this after the first episode of K-ON!

"Oh, don't worry about it. I really needed a break from that class. It was getting really boring that I kept falling asleep, but my elbow kept slipping off the desk that I would wake up." I reply, smiling at her while rubbing my elbow which is a bit red.

She giggles. The warmth of her smile emanates from behind the letter that she's pressing against her soft lips. "That always happens to you."

"Yea. I guess." I shrug. "So what did you want to talk to me about?"

Mio catches my gaze for a split second. She starts to shuffle around nervously. "Ummmm....It's...I..." Her head sways from side to side as she looks around. Every now and then she steals glances at me, blushing deeper each time our eyes meet.

"Are you feeling alright?" I ask her, smiling with a casual aloofness that I'm best known for. "Your face is a bit red."

"Y-yes! I'm fine!" She tweets, still clutching the letter close to her lips. "It's...ummm...this letter...it's for you..."

"Really? From you? May I read it?" I extend my hand. Her lashes flutter as if startled. She traces the edges of the letter with her fingers which is still pressed against her lips. Looking up, Mio stares at me intently as if trying to reveal the contents of the letter without actually letting me read it.

Nibbling her lower lip nervously, she slowly surrenders the letter. Before it reaches my hand she lets go causing it to drop to the floor.

"Oh!"

We both reach down to pick it up. Our hands touch. I can feel the softness of her skin as it's pressed against the top of my hand while I hold the letter. Our eyes meet and we both blush. At that moment I came to realize what was in this letter that was so precious to her. The feelings she embedded in her words poured into my soul.

Mio drew her hand back. I did as well. We both stood there, silently staring at the letter in my hands.

"I...I better let you get back to class," said Mio in an awkwardly excited manner. "I don't want you to get in trouble because of me." She had her hands behind her as she took several steps backwards before turning around and walking back to class. I waved back at her with my free hand until she was out of sight.

Nervous yet excited I opened up the letter, taking a deep breathe before reading what she must must have spent all night to write.

The next day I called Mio out from one of her classes. I stood there in the hall waiting for her as she left the room. "Sorry I had to steal you away from class." I said, shuffling around nervously while still trying to act nonchalant. "I ummm...wanted to give you this."

I hand over a white letter that I had clutched in my hand. Our eyes meet and we both blush hard. She takes it. "May I read it?"

My head sways from side to side as I look around the hall, occasionally stealing glances at her. "Yea."

Hearing her open the letter sends shivers up and down my body. "J-Just so you know. I-I'm not as good a writer as you are." I tell her as she unfolds the letter.

I freeze up as soon as I hear her giggle. "This is my letter!"

"I-I just wrote what I wanted to say underneath it! You know...to-to save paper." Closing my eyes, I sigh. "I knew this was a bad idea."

Suddenly I feel her arm wrap around mine, her soft and warm fingers entangled between my own. I look at her. She smiles. "No...I think you're a good writer. And I'm really happy."

On the tips of her toes Mio reaches up and kisses me on the cheek. My face flushes.

She wraps around my arm tightly and pulls me down the hall. "Do you want to skip class?"

I smirk. "Why? Was class boring?"

Mio sticks her tongue out at me. "I was starting to fall asleep."

  I sit in my usual seat, staring to the seat in front me, where Mio usually sit... I glance over to the window.. I saw 2 people, a boy and a girl... they are running toward the school gate... They look happy...
  
  I set my sight to the front of the class, looks like the teacher will start soon... "sigh, Another boring class today..." I mumbled that to myself as I put my arm on the table, and slowly I drown myself in a sleep...

a suggestion for the mirai manga, maybe we can get mirai to teach English as well. will be interesting to see mirai correcting engrish and funny encounters from in between translations. ('~')

So progress really is being made on the manga. Excellent! If you're doing the "Mirai as learning gaijin" slant, it opens a lot of doors for cultural miscommunication jokes too. I'm sure there's tons of real-life stories out there you can pull from.

Personally I don't really like Ayu's drawing of Mio, even though happens to be my favorite K-ON! character so far. Can't put my hand on it...

I see a some elaborate pieces of writing, and it they seem like they'd be from some sort of anime/video game fanfic board from a random forum. I'm not saying that's bad though...The sort of creativity and skill needed to create a good fanfic isn't what I see as what's needed to make good manga.

You can have a great main plot by having a romantic situation with so much potential such as Toradora, but at the same time, you can take a simple plot and make it great by having epic moments and arcs such as in Ichigo %100.

Donno if I'm making my point, but judging by others posts and on my own judgment, it would seem "Slice of Life" would be the most fitting genre for a "Suenaga Sisters" manga. Fanfic style writing and ideas would be better for light novels. I like the snap you get from good parodies on other anime/manga and Japanese culture, which by no means is hard to come by in this community.

This is really only how I think, and that can usually change quickly and I'm of course not always right. But I'm new here and I really can't keep up with the popularity of this website with the amount of comments and stuff so I'll just sit back and hope I don't get crucified on my first spout of words.

I was wondering Danny if I could suggest an idea to add the manga storyline. Maybe Mirai is a school girl from the future and has come to present time Japan to collect information for a report she has to do on the cultural life of Japan in this time period. Her name could be a cover name she chose to play on the fact she comes from the future. The little X hair band she seems to wear lets her hear, understand and speak Japanese. She could even break her time machine and she has to hunt around Akihabara for pieces to try and fix it.
