Otaku Graduation

The process of graduating from being an otaku is called "Datsu-ota" [脱オタ] in Japanese and it "appears" like Otaku King Melonpan has maybe decided to throw in the towel and leave the Otaku kingdom?

Some pics below showing you his Datsu-ota process taken from his Out of Moe (English translation) and Out of Moe 2.0 (English translation here) posts.

The lovely Sky Girls are dumped in the store room for a while...

Until he has time to throw them away...

Moe posters...

Are torn down.

Rin not only gets beheaded...

But also drilled...

And then torn apart.

Nanoha receives the unrecoverable Megaton Heavenly Atom Smash of Doom.

Other figures are dumped in a bag awaiting execution..

Melonpan and comrade Tripeman interestingly go on to mention that Otaku are "Otaku are Retarded Sissies who Love to Play with Dolls" ^^;

As for me? Dont see myself going through the datsu-ota process anytime soon - I love my hobbies and have never encountered any disadvantages from being an otaku.

I notice a few comments here and there about folks being embarrassed about the way they are or the hobbies they have but would like to share something with you again - me being in Japan with my current way of life would never have happened if I didn't follow my passion which I discovered when I was a wee lad - my room at the time below.

Even though I was good at it, I knew I didn't want to make shoes. I then discovered Japanese culture through anime, manga, games and idols. I didn't know what line of work I wanted to do (no internets back them) but knew for sure that I wanted to live and work in Japan. I didn't know how I was going to make it happen but I just started with something that I knew was going to help - learn Japanese.

If you end up not following your passion just because of what others think then you have effectively agreed to live the life of others - this is *your* life - your short life, your arms, your legs, your will. Do what you can - do it now. Never give in to those who fear you or your hobbies because you will end up just like them - living the lives of others.

Original text from Louki below.

our famous comrade melonpan announced yesterday on his blog that he decided to leave the world of otaku.

First I thought it was a joke but apparently he is serious and now his blog became inaccessible. This is a great loss for our community !

i guess many people here remember how much his adventures with his dakimakura became awesome ^^

So, melonpan if you read this, thank you very much for maked us laugh so hard and we wish you all the best !

Cheers man !
