Its great to see the Dollfie community slowly building up on dannychoo.com. Soon I will roll out the groups feature so that folks can chat and share about a particular subject. I'm interested in joining the K-ON! group too ^^

I hear BJDs are popular in Korea too but don't know much about them - would love more info if you have some.
Today I wanted to highlight these gorgeous photos of Saber from DC member toel-uru from Seoul, Korea. Gorgeous wig and outfit and a change of optical eyes too. The lower pair of eyes look great too.

I liked these eyeballs so much that I stopped by at the Volks store in Ikebukuro after our meeting and picked some up - but just realized that the ones I picked up are not the same. Will still give Saber the eye transplant and see how she looks. I've seen the eye transplants done before and just happen to have a glue gun - will do the transplant later today.
Saber is crying at the moment - shes a bit scared. Trying to assure her that all will be fine.

      Agreed! That first picture is awesome! I've been debating on whether to just get an image character or to just make one from scratch by buying different parts... anyone go that route?

          If you mean just getting the Dollfie Dream basic body, then you can get it for 231 USD at the Volks USA store. You'll have to buy a head, eyes, putty or a glue gun for sticking the eyes in the head and the wig if you want the full body. Then there is either water based paint or maybe using water color pencils for face detail and a can of sealant to protect the face after paint/draw it on. Been playing around with the idea and I think the lowest amount I got for all of this and some basic clothes to start off was around 400 USD. Or, I may just loose myself and go for the pre-order of a Dollfie Dream Yoko or Nia at almost twice the price... ^_^;

              I'm no expert (any here?), just did a lot website/forum searching/reading. I think the sealant is really just for people who do their own custom paint jobs for "blank" heads to protect from smudging of the lips/blush,eyebrows. I can't vouch for whether this can be done on the material of a dollfie dream made out of vinyl versus a normal ball jointed doll made out of porcelain, but I'm willing to bet it should be similar if not then the same.

              Anyone know or care to comment?

              most BJDs are similar to our figures. They're not porcelain but made of PVC ^^;;

              therefore, BJDs (while new technology are introduced) are UV-ray sensitive much like any anime figure.

              Sealants must be checked for PVC-safe ones with UV protection too. And sealants aren't exactly just for face-ups (custom make-up) it's also useful to spray sealants to further protect it from UV rays and yellowing ^^;

              You don't need to coat Dollfie Dreams. They are made of soft vynil, so if you coat them, the coating will wear off eventually and won't look very nice. It would also chip quickly at the joints and wouldn't look nice either. Just keep your Dollfie Dream away fromt he sun, and don't keep her in black clothes for a long period of time, especially in warm weather. They are pretty easy to take care of once you know what to watch out for to prevent vinyl stains.

              @chibichibiusa: I'm mistaken on that part. I was referring to other ABJDs that do not employ the UV protection. But meh, many are changing that now so it might not apply anymore D:

              The real difference between sealing them and not is whether you want to have em outdoors, or indoors.

              personally I own a Dream of Doll Lahoo, a korean BJD, and I much prefer to bring them outside in the daylight to take photos at various locales, since the house only offers so many types of settings, therefore I coat them.

              What was mentioned about it 'chipping' and 'flaking' is basically wear and tear. Imagine having an extra 'skin' if you may, on your doll that does not replenish itself. After much touching and moving about from either your/others hands and the clothes they wear, the 'skin' will bound to waste away, revealing the 'original' color of your doll's material. In that sense, if it wears away in certain places, ie. elbows, knees, etc., it will show very clearly and won't be such a good subject for closeups and the like.

              In the end, it is entirely up to you. In my doll's case, I take the most care in his face, rather than the rest of the body. Due to the fact the his body is mostly hidden under the clothes and also the fact you can detach the head and wash/recoat the body, you spend less time (and stress) taking care of the entire doll.

              Hope that helps :)

      Dollfie Dreams have wigs instead of rooted hair, so it's easy to change a doll's look completely in seconds by changing the wig. That's definitely Saber, and I'm pretty sure that wig came from another limited DD but can't remember who.

      Just push the eyes out carefully (make sure you don't have long sharp nails when you do this, or put on soft gloves), remove all the dried up hot glue inside, and then put the animetic eyes back in place with.... blue tack!! This sounds really cheap, but blue tack works wonders, and it makes it really fast/easy to change eyes. Then you can own like 20+ pair of eyes and always change your Dollfie's eyes everyday ^__^

    I remember the first time I was exposed to a Super Dollfie and thought how strange it was... but going through the multitude of SD posts have made me want one more and more each day. Thanks for opening my eyes!

    Absolutely love the BJDs from Korea! I have two boys myself ^^

    I could be wrong, maybe I just don't know where to look but I can find so much more BJD clothes and accessories from Korea. Buying the right clothes or whatever can be a pain and tedious task sometimes since the sizing is different for every doll... I'm always going through forums and charts to make sure I get something that fits my boys. Ahhh, what I do for them, lol.

    A tip for you Danny, it's not recommended to hot glue gun eyes into a dolfie's head. While it does hold better you'll have a difficult time removing the glue later. Some dolfie owners (and me as well) use white putty, the type that's used to stick posters to walls. Plus it's less painful the little ones. ^^
