Very old but I only found out about this today.
John Carpenter gets to the final round to win 1 million USD. No lifelines used so far. Upon the last question, he uses his lifeline to call his dad to tell him:-

I don't really need your help - just wanted to let you know that I'm going to win the million dollars.

Watch to see what happens at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjfg5tS3nDs
(they disabled embedding(lame))

The Japanese version of a millionaire is interesting where most of the contestants are famous Japanese folks who already have a load of money.

These Japanese comedians called Bakusho Mondai are apparently two of the most well paid in the industry.

You may have noticed in the video above that they are also promoting Slumdog Millionaire which just came out in Japan I think. Recommended?

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

I remember watching that episode when it aired. I remember he was asked what the distance the moon was from the earth.

Calling his dad on that last round telling him he was going to win, the epitome of epic moments in game show history.

I remember this as well. I watched it when it happened. Very epic indeed. He was the first person to win the million on the US version of the show. That was back when the show was still popular. But then stupid ABC ran it into the ground with overkill, by starting to air it three nights a week, instead of only two weeks at a time ever few months. It didn't take long after that, that people just lost interest, because it was on too often.

Hmm.. after watching the complete run, I do think that some questions are a bit easy... Those that I don't know was more because I'm not an American..^^

How can Phoenix and Polio made it to final 5 questions?? that's way too easy... the final 2 questions are very very hard tho... I have no idea about Louvre, and much less about Laugh In... so, still, awesome achievemen....

But should i take his place, i would lose from the very beginning, i have no idea about the correct order of those races, and I also have no clue on the sound Road Runner usually made...XD lol.

I really enjoyed Slumdog Millionaire. I thought it was great how it was paced together with each question and how it related to his life experience. It was only towards the very end that it got more and more like a Bollywood movie and you can see their homage at the credits with the dancing and everything.

    Good stuff, highly recommended movie.
