From left to right:-

  • Fuminori Kizaki (Director of Afro Samurai, Animation Director of Blue Gender, Character Designer of Galaxy Railways, Key Animation for Macross Pluss OAV)
  • Danny Choo CEO Mirai Inc/Key pigeon cage cleaner
  • Takashi Okazaki (Original creator art/manga of Afro Samurai)
  • Andrew Lee (Writer and Art Director (Kodansha International))
  • Hiroya Iijima (BLASSREITER Art Director, Kurogane no Line Barrel Art Director, Afro Samurai Character Design/Animation Director, Black Cat Animation Director, Gantz Key Animation, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society movie Key Animation)
  • CM Willy (Doujin Artist, Silkworm Smeller)
And before you mention it - yes the curtain was falling to bits ^^;

Afro Samurai title=

After being invited to have din dins with some of the creators of Afro Samurai at Takashi Okazaki sensei's place, we thought we'd do a bash at my house just after the new year.

The office is on the 1st floor where the entrance is so we start off my going through bits n pieces around the desks.

Afro Samurai title=

A few hours of dinner to talk about a load of stuff including much anime industry talk. Hmmmmmmmm...

Afro Samurai title=

Me like wifey's cooking. The only thing I can "cook" is boiled water.

Afro Samurai title=

Time for mega Star Wars otaku Okazaki sensei to try out the Vader gear. The leather suit and inner cloak look great without the Vader hard parts. Me went out for lunch dressed like this one day ^^;

Afro Samurai title=

Vader gets dolphin slice salad.

Afro Samurai title=

Turned out to be a cosplay photo session ^^;

Afro Samurai title=

"Join me or the teddy gets it up the bottom through the skull."

Afro Samurai title=

Then its everybody's turn to have pics with the dark lord.

Afro Samurai title=

Couldn't be bothered to put on the trooper armor though ^^;

Afro Samurai title=

Okazaki sensei relieved from the heavy helmet for a while.

Afro Samurai title=

Checking out Kizaki sensei's pics.

Afro Samurai title=

Time flies when you're having fun eh? Before we new it it was 12AM - last trains in Japan are between 12:15 and 12:45AM-ish.
This was one of the things I found surprising when I first came to Japan - no night time public transport. Back in London, we had night buses. But then again, drivers of night buses would only stop if they felt like it. Is there 24 hour public transportation services in your neck of the woods?

Afro Samurai title=

Vader giving somebody a bollocking in the corner.

One interesting thing I noticed about many (not all) folks over here is that they hardly invite each other to their houses. I spoke to a few Japanese folks about this and they said one of the reasons they don't invite colleagues round to their abode is because others get to see their private life which they prefer not to show.

Another reason given was that they were busy and didn't have time to invite anybody.

This was very different to when we was living in Seattle for a few months - there were always colleagues at Amazon inviting others over for dinner.
How often do you have friends over at your gaff?

Afro Samurai title=

Was thinking that a black trooper helmet actually doesn't look too bad on Vader's body and was wondering that perhaps this could have been the original design for Vader's helmet.

Afro Samurai title=

The Vader armor is still for sale if you want it - 300,000 yen or swap for Boba Fett armor.
Discovered that I had an ahoge.

Afro Samurai title=

Iijima sensei is a Kamen Rider otaku and occasionally wears this Rider belt which lights up and makes henshin noises.

Afro Samurai title=

Hes also got a load of cool accessories bouncing off his person.

Afro Samurai title=

Some of the cake that Iijima bought round. Probably the same in most cultures but Japanese folks usually bring some food stuff when they visit other peoples houses.

Afro Samurai title=

A few days later, Kizaki sensei sent over a CD with some of the photos that he took - he also drew this Vader for us.

Afro Samurai title=

Illustration prezzie from Iijima sensei. Can you name this character?
And for folks who don't know why the title of this article is Afro Samurai - most of these folks are involved in the production of the anime.

Afro Samurai title=

All the lads were very interested in the girls around my desk and requested cast offs ^^;
Desk ends up being berry messy.

Afro Samurai title=

Just thought I'd throw in some pics of the office of late.

Afro Samurai title=

Dug up the old PowerBook and installed Leopard on it. We now have two optic fiber Internet connections into the house - one is a private network and one is the used for the server. The PowerBook is used to control stuff on the external network. Will talk more about this in a separate article next week.

Afro Samurai title=

Office is a bit more spacious now that the sewing machine is gone.

Afro Samurai title=

Diagram of bits of Mirai Gaia.

Afro Samurai title=

Cant get enough of the Dollfies. I noticed that since I got them that quite a few of you have been getting them too ^^; Anymore planning on adopting one?

    Dang it, Danny, quit showing off the Dollfies! >.< You're going to deplete my wallet even further. :(

    Anyhow, look like a heck of a good time. My past dinner parites with "business" colleagues have never been like that. Usually the highlight would be someone making a joke about GM's just in time production process. Yeah, I know...how fun.

    At school, I have people over at my apartment on an almost daily basis. Traffic into my room, not so much. Usually just entertain people in the living room. I sometimes have people over for dinner. However, that's really rare. Still need to work on my culinary skills.

    kukuku cast off lol! Last year we had around 3 parties, one for family, 1 for friends, 1 for hubs co-workers (well it's mostly just dinner + snacks + dessert and some drinks, and chit chat) no dancing and any crazy stuff lol. I was so tired cos 2 of the parties were arranged too close together ^^; I in charge of making food lol... And man, the clean up after.... x_x (thankfully hubs did most of the clean up lol). Otherwise having some friends over is nice tho :) Warms up the home ^^ In Singapore my parents very rarely invite friends over cos our place is kinda cluttered lol I recall inviting 3 of my friends over for a little bit, before I moved to Canada, we barely had anywhere to stand in my room ^^;;;; We sat on the floor and had snacks LOL It was fun :P

    Sugoi!!! That looks like so much fun.... Loving the teddies!!
    We have 2 movie nights a week now, one for just the girls and one for the girls and guy of our group. The girls-only movie night was basically started to watch all the Robert Downey Jr movies I could lay my paws on. After we ran out we looked for other man-candy.... I'm a fan of John Cusack myself. Aswell as David Tennant ofc. He wins over Downey Jr and Cusack, flat out. We have Wii nights too, had one just tonight lol. Thats round my friends, cos she has the Wii. The man-candy night is on a rotation basis, switches each week lol.

    Requesting cast offs!! LOL, I love that idea. Sounds like fun. I has no one to request cast offs lol.

    And I see new Dollfie clothes!! Dress Aoi!!! Dress her!!

    And yes, I want one.... have done... for a long time...ever since seeing them on Johnathon Ross's Japanorama.(I remember them showing the lap pillow, and the oppai pillow lol) Seeing yours up close is just tipping me into the 'desperate enough to fork out the money for one' catagory.... lol

    Wow! I love how fascinated they were by your collection of goodies lol. I wish I could experience special parties like that.. looks very cozy and a great environment to live in. :333

    I come from a social family (-___-);; So it's common to have 60-80 guests per party once a month on average. (@__@) Lots of prior preparation needed ahead of time... usually a week in advance. I think parties is where I learned my leadership skills from... must handle lots of people at the same time.

    Speaking of the devil, there's a 70-guest party tomorrow evening! xD Will finally see one of my best friends after her vacation to Hawaii so I'm so excited! ^^

    Night-time public transport goes up to roughly 3 AM here, though a lot of bus routes start their last rounds at 2:00. Some routes are shortened, but all in all the entire system's up and running. Also, women travelling alone at night are allowed to tell the bus driver exactly where to stop. ^^

    Sometimes my friends come by for some MMO(FPS/RPG) or video game session on weekends.
    We play all night/day long and next day my back usually hurts a lot. x_X

    Here in Rio the last subway train is at 12AM and some buses stop around 10~11AM. But some others go all over the night.

    That must have been a laugh fest. Looked as if they had a lot of fun, hope you inspired them, Danny, to start collecting stuff they do not produce. The best collected item in the office area I think is the poster of the Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun show. If they aren't the definition of Anime Goodness then I don't know what is.

    Nope, no visitors since I got this big dog he won't allow any one in, unless they want to spend 3 hours brushing him, so no go for any one.

    Danny... *sigh* We're going to have to teach you to cook. Honestly, you're a grown man, and men should be able to cook too--ladies dig that sorta thing ya know! 'Specially when you're already married to them! XD Anyway, I invite people over from time to time. Typically it's only the same few people over and over, but they're my favorite sparring buddies, and I really don't trust many other people that much. Sometimes some of my non-martial arts friends stop by, but that's less and less often these days. Usually the festivities are video games or movies, and not the typical doll ogling or Star Wars viewing--that's right, I saw what you guys were watching! XD That's some good taste in movies you've got! ^.^

    I haven't had much friends visiting this house... especially since there are a lot of clutter. I need to clean up badly! My parents bring their friends over though, sometimes 20+... and the week and the days before it is pretty much chaos for me and my brother trying to clean up the house so the guests can move around. If my friends do come over, it's not that long. Last time a friend visited, we just watched Lodoss War and the Transformers movie.

    As for night public transportation... Our rail system, Skytrain, only runs until 1 AM, and buses around 3 AM, I believe. Never really been out that late before. Once 3 AM hits, people from the bars in downtown try to get home, but can't because either there are hardly any taxis or the taxi won't take people to go outside of Vancouver city limits...

    When I had my apartment, I invited friends over. Not many, though, because I had only the crappy couch and three chairs that came with the apartment (On-campus apartments at MSU in the 90s only had a couch and two tables over a regular dorm room. And I had no money or space for extra furniture.) And only did it a few times. Now? Not a chance. Maybe when I get my own place again.

    How to explain...

    My room at school is for sleep only. During the day I stay out of there whenever possible because a) messy desk b) it reeks of the stench of perspiration since my roommate bathes once per month (ok maybe not that extreme, twice per month last I counted) and c) I can't get any work done in my room. Well, I'm usually off doing school work outside so I never have friends over. Plus, my friends are university are often busy with school stuff too, so yeah. Might be different next year if I get my own apartment, but this year, no way.

    At home, I prefer to be with myself since I seem to never get enough of R&R. That and I lack friends in general.

    Love the idea of using plexiglass as a whiteboard--looks awesome and is probably loads cheaper too.

    Here people do invite friends and coworkers over pretty frequently; I personally do so only occaisonally though. I'm a bit of a hermit.

    As much as I'd love to get a Dollfie, it's totally not in the budget right now. ^^; (my dad's getting surgery for diverticulitis soon, which means not only massive bills but several weeks of him not working.) Even if I did have money right now, I'd probably get a smaller Super Dollfie rather than the larger Dollfie Dreams; more affordable. ^^;
