Tokyo City View

At the very top of the Roppongi Hills tower, you will discover an incredible view of Tokyo from the Sky Deck. No camera can do the view justice and just has to be seen with the nekkid eye.

Got invite tickets for the Sky Desk which normally costs 1,500 yen per person. The Sky Deck is open until 22:30 where chucking out time is 23:00.

Was our first time to visit the Sky Deck. The views from Tokyo Tower were great but Sky Deck was amazing. You get to view the metropolis in the open air too - Tokyo tower is through glass.

The Sky Deck is situated at the top of the Roppongi Hills building 238 meters above ground level and you have a 360 view of the city. More details at their HP.

Uploaded some of these originals to the wallpaper pool - which brings me to yet another related question ^^;
When I upload landscape or photo walk photos, I usually upload some to the Wallpaper Pool and mention so in the article. Usually also mention what camera I used.
But then I always notice a few comments asking "Can we have some of these as a wallpaper" or "what camera did you use?"
Have seen comments from a few folks mentioning that they cant be bothered to read the text and just look at the photos. Have also had feedback that some of the articles have too many photos. What do you generally end up doing and what are your preferences?

Last photo is sad "tilt shift" attempt.

Really amazing pictures and they showed the light from so far away in focus as well as close objects. Now I gotta deal about heights any more with lower back injury I can't even climb off a ladder to get on my roof if I had to, so, seeing the pictures 24153 and 24164 top of the Sky Deck I think, I would pass going on up there LOL.

I always read the text. People who don't and then comment are awfully rude in my opinion. >_> I can understand people being too rushed to read, but I hate it when people ask me things that are right there on the page. It's like saying, "I can't be bothered with my time, please use yours instead".
I generally don't see a problem with the amount of photos either. This particular post does seem to be a bit overkill, since many of the photos look similar, but it's not a problem I've noticed before today.

Great photos Danny. The sky deck definitely looks like a great place to go for some inspiration (aspiration?) of some sort. Or just to clear the mind off of everyday life. Must put on my to-go list whenever I go to Japan.
I always read the whole article and go through all the photos; I read it because I was interested in it the first place. I absolutely hate those who ask questions without reading because that seems highly disrespectful and ignorant, considering the answer is literally in front. Can't be bothered to read the text? I do consider it extremely rude if people just cannot be bothered to read the article and then ask you questions about it, for me it is the equivalent of telling someone something and then they turn and say I was not listening, but please tell me about this one bit I want to know, even if you did just tell them. I understand people have time constraints, but so do you! And why should you have to use your time, just because they do not want to use theirs. Hey Danny, have you ever tried to make some panoramas of tokyo in the night? I know that you are now a mac user, but autostitch for windows (http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~mbrown/autostitch/autostitch.html) is really "magic". You just choose the pictures and the program assembles the panorama automátically. You can play with the quality and size settings to make the panorama as big as the original pictures.

Nice view!
I went up 6 skyscrapers this time in Japan. My tip is to always go up just before sunset.
The Mori Tower was great, although the routine for having to pack your belongings away before going on the roof was quite complex. I'd love to be up there when they land a helicopter on the roof.
The Sunshine 60 Tower also had a great roof observatory, and I got some lovely pictures of Ikebukuro. On the downside the entrance to the observatory was incredibly difficult for a Westerner to find - it was well hidden amongst the 10,000 odd women's clothes shops!
To the other commenter - the view from the Tokyo Tower is OK, but Mori is much better. You have to pay more to go up the top bit of the Tokyo Tower for the best views. And the windows aren't that clean so it's difficult to take great pictures. Next time I will learn the Kanji for "Roof Observatory".
Ebisu Garden Palace has a good observatory - it's free and not crowded. And the lift is stuck to the outside of the building so take a spare pair of trousers for the ride! The Landmark Tower in Yokohama is also good.

It must be very windy up there! But looks like a must visit if anyone drops by Tokyo! It's so brightly lit it looks like the city's on fire but, beautiful all the same. Reminds me of the Initial D song, "No One Sleeps in Tokyo".
And yes, I read all the text because since I've never been to the places myself, it's always good to read some accompanying text to learn more.
I'm presuming you used a tilt shift lens for the last shot. It sounds dumb but, just wondering if optical IS cameras could do the same since the lens in them shift too.

Is it just me or is the sky a bit grainy?
http://www.nanyate.biz
He took these at high ISO (800 as stated somewhere above), the higher the iso number the more noise you get in pictures.
and I think these were shot out of hand too (as in without tripod). and probably edited because they came out too dark. which adds to the 'grainy' outcome. am I right danny?

I have a quick scan through the articles first, then almost always come back that same night to have a good read through all the text, I prefer reading stuff at night as for me it's easier to soak in when I have a quiet environemnt around me.
Fantasticly stunning pictures Danny!

Depending on subject matter, I read accordingly lol. Although I look at all the pictures haha. I love these pictures though. They are beautiful.

I read all the text in the articles. I find regardless of subject there's usually something that pertains to my interest so I keep reading. I noticed most of the time you only upload pictures around 800x600 on flickr so I find myself requesting the full size when I see something that really catches my eye and isn't already in the wallpaper tool.
For example, there's a certain picture of a nice scene with a turntable I requested in higher res. hint hint hint

It's a shame that they don't allow tripods to be brought up for peekture shoots. I guess perhaps they're afraid that you'll "accidentally" drop your tripod and smash unlucky soul below. That'll be another Mori Tower terror after that revolving door incident. LOL

Are the buildings really black like in the picture, or is it some funny lighting thing?
As for too many pics, I would not agree. I love your walk around town sessions and also your philosophical writings. (as an example, the one about haters)

I typically read all of the article since they normally come in short blurbs between pictures and generally cover a topic that interests me.
As for the photographs in this article, they look amazing! One can really get the sense that the city is truly alive and vibrant.
I like the comments under the pics. It gives those who have never been a good idea of what's going on. of course now I really have to find a way to get there at least for vacation.

I find it very rude and almost sad that people these days have lost the ability to sit still and read something for 5 minutes. It is the same with my youtube videos, I always put links for what songs I used in the side bar. But it never fails to amazing me with the amount of comments and msgs asking me the name of the songs I used. I recently had someone hound me through EMAIL, literally begging me for the song used in my last video. If people would open their eyes a little more (and their brains) they could save so much time and effort.
To me, pictures have no meaning without a story to go along with them. Or at the very least a little humorous comment. I say keep doing what you are doing. It will be worth it to those who actually prefer to use their heads, like yourself. I just skipped the last set of pictures in this post cause they had no text.

With a few exceptions -usually if I'm really busy- I read every word of the article. You take time to write it so I do my best to take time to read it. I also like to answer your question.
You don't have too many photos in your articles. I personally have gotten into the habit of checking the wallpaper pool...

Hehe... Those are truly something else. I do like living in cities where it is possible to look across and see the entire town. At high enough heights here, you can see all the way across to the north. There are no trees or anything to block the view.
And until you start writing long walls of text in your articles, I'll keep reading every word.

what lens did you use? the pics are awefully grainy... high ISO?
I suppose that height would need some sort of zoom and as a result your appeture wont be too far open.. but still i thought the X2 was better at night than this.
I was contemplating getting one.. its a toss up between the Kiss X2, Pentax 20d and the Nikon D80.
I have some time cos i'm still saving and recently ive been burning thru too many sets of tyres on my car, but yeah its nice to see shots taken with these cams... tho i daresay it doesn't make my choice easier.
right now i'm tending toeard the X2 just because the EF prime lenses are the cheapest.
ok I knoe this doesn't have much to do with the post.. but i will be goiong to the Sky Deck on my next trip to tokyo.
