Living at home with parents? Need some private space? Have a garden that has at least 3 square meters?

Then you need Paco - a 3x3x3 square meter box that has everything you need to sustain your life - bed, shower, toilet, kitchen, electricity, water and the most important thing - the internets.

Have a look at the Facilities page to see how water, electricity and services would be pulled into the Paco. Hover your furry friend (mouse) over the text on this page to see all the different functions of the Paco.

The price chart is here and you can get a Paco for 6,300,000 yen that includes a kitchen, shower, toilet, lighting and shiny floor.
The cheapest version is the skeleton at 4,200,000 yen where you can customize the inside - for example making a trap door for a Candy Girl.
Tis a bit pricey considering that you can build a three story house like ours for less money.

I remember the day I moved out after living with my mum for years - felt like the guy in the Shawshank Redemption at the end ^^;

Do try to watch this film - inspiring.

yes well if you want to get technical it's not painted in light. And white paint doesn't contain every pigment shade so you're only paying for the white pigment in the finish...

    Everything is so white!

When I would be in small enclosed area for a long time, everything in it would seem big that when I head out, I would find it hard to believe that what I was in is small.

As for the 6.3m yen cost, that is still less than a 3-room apartment unit in Singapore. In fact that cost is about the same as buying a sedan car.

I wonder what happens if you are inside and somebody unplugs it. You surely can't open the roof. Also no windows will make it kind of dark inside.

I disagree with the shape though. The issue is that road vehicles needs a special permit to be wider than 2,55 metres (at least here) and to get such a permit you need to have a lorry company with a special lorry with orange flashing lights and stuff. Also every time you move it you will have to inform the police in advance. Making it 2,55 instead of 3 would have made transportation a lot easier.

I wonder why it's squarre. Do they plan to stack them or something?

If I were to make this, I would have added windows. You could then close them like in an aircraft so you can seal out light and stuff if you like, yet you can get sunlight inside. I would also consider how to add wheels to move it around. Looks a bit heavy to carry by hand.

However the biggest problem.... the toilet. If you do smelly stuff, then you can't close the door and get rid of the smell as you stay in the same room. This is a major design flaw.

But the concept is just great, and will be a interesting option for the houses of the future. Or maybe -if they aren't expensive- as a solution to habitational problems, or low-cost houses for the poor people.

Unfortunately, that'll only work as a single-person house. I can't imagine how two -or three?- people could live in that.

Does it really cost that little to build a house in Japan? I remember hearing people just demolish and build a new house instead of buying an existing one there, so I guess the cost would have to be low to facilitate that. I know it's not nearly that cheap to build a house here, but people tend to expect to be able to simply do a bit of maintenance on them but otherwise be able to have the house there indefinitely.

    Where's my Internet connection? >_>

To tell the truth? I've actually always envisioned a room like this, except in a real house and not pure white. But what I've always wanted to try was a room where everything is nested into the walls and floors - like, flipping down my desk from the wall, sliding my flat-panel TV out, all that jazz.

Although...Danny, I'm pretty sure 3 x 3 x 3m doesn't result in a 3 square meter footprint. It should be 9 square meters on each surface (hence taking 9m^2 of lawn space) with a volume of 27 cubic meters.

It's the same as with electricity: it depends on an external source. (at least I presume so)

The major issue I see with the connection to the outside world, is not the water, that flows into the toilet, but what comes out of the toilet. Making a flexible pipe connection to the sewer system means no pieces so you have to have a machine to cut it up (really noisy) and then you need to connect it airtight to the sewer system or you will have odor issues. Trust me, I have set up something like that, except the "house" where on wheels.

I just realised what would make this box really cool: legs.

Think about it. If it contains a number of legs that can lift it when you want and use those legs to move around. You would be able to place it at locations where cranes can't access it and it can move up and down stairs and stuff. However the coolest part would be that you could tell everybody that you live in a room with no windows and it's all white and it's able to walk around. People can presume what they want, but it would actually be cool to try that. Also having a walking room sounds somewhat like science fiction.

A sideeffect would likely be the power needed for legs like that. You will likely have to give up quite a lot of room for hydralics and power for the hydralic (most likely a diesel engine) and stuff. Also it wouldn't be cheap, but hey, it's possible today if you want to pay enough.
