Mirai Dakimakura Progress

And here is the progress for the Mirai dakimakura. Azami-sensei has done a fantastic job!
I've approved these sketches and sensei is now going to scan and then outline in Photoshop. The outline is called "Senga" [線画] which will give me a better idea of what the final illustration is going to look like.

Once the senga is approved, sensei will then proceed to paint mirai-chan starting with her pichi pichi birthday suit. The clothing and facial expressions are different layers. The whole process will take just 3 days given sensei's other current commitments.

The original size is about 4000px x 8000px at 600dpi. Color is CMYK which is required for print. Once the illustration is done, it will be printed out on paper to check the dimensions and then the data will be sent off to the factory in China.

The factory will then make some samples which should be ready for me to inspect by the 30th of March.

Unfortunately I don't have a say in the retail price of the dakimakura as I'm only licensing the use of Mirai-chans character. I have a feeling that they will price it at the market standard of 10,000 yen. Character licensing is turning out to be an interesting business. Am hooking up with folks at Disney tonight so will ask for more about this industry.

Need your feedback again regarding the dakimakura - lemme know in the poll if you are interested and we will order the first batch based on your numbers. The dakimakura cover should be available at the same online dealers that you get your figures from. They will also stock the actual pillow stuffing too.

They're all fantastic and I would buy any combination of any 2 of those images on a dakimakura. I have a Love Hina long pillow I got a while back, but I don't think it can be classified as a dakimakura since it they aren't full body images ^^;;; so this would be my first dakimakura.

Wow, a figma, dakimakura, oppai mousepad coming, add the tare Danny t-shirts and you might have yourself the makings of an online store ;)

kool, thanks for the information on how it is being processed and drawn Danny. :D

hhmm, very huge canvase! My old aging laptop could just about withstand a canvas like 2500x4500px ... its slow... lol

The sketches looks amazing, I'm guessing Azami drew a base and photocopied it, she can then work off that. I did it like that for some Uni project back in the day haha.

    Awesome.

My favorites are 1 and then 3. 2 looks like she is being raped so I'd feel a bit creepy owning that. 1 is the one I would most like to buy.

Hope to see one of her sister too. I bet that one sells much better for some reason...

One thing that worries me about so many dakimakura, is the look on the face of the character. Their expression sometimes conveys an aprehension, a forced or a regretful look; like they wish they weren't there.

I'm all for those 'come-to-bed' eyes, but not when the rest of her is saying 'No'!

I've always wondered how creators felt about their original characters being used for products like this, whether official or fan works. I'd be interested in reading Danny's, or any one else's, thoughts and motivations and whatnot.

Still, it's pretty damn awesome to be able to have stuff like this and the Figma being made. Must feel pretty great.

Avast, I would buy one, but I'm still on the tight budget. I couldn't tell you which combo would be ideal though, because the poses don't look gratuitous at all, so they're all quite nice.
