GSC and MAX party title=

A party was held for the staff of GSC (Good Smile Company), Max Factory and other related folks from the figure/game/anime and IT industry. "IT industry" = Hector and I ^^;

GSC and MAX party title=

The summer season is the most busiest for figure makers what with all the events. GSC participated at Wonder Festival, Bushi Road Cardfes, Comiket 74, Super GT Series 6 and Chara Hobby.

The food at the party was most scrumptious. While I do try to get out and mingle as much as possible, its been increasingly difficult to do so with the current schedule. Next week got another dinner with some GSC new members and on the 30th got the Japan Blogger Dinner - let me know if you can make it.

How often do you get out to mingle?

GSC and MAX party title=

Mikatan in the back and you can see her photos of the party at her burogu.

GSC and MAX party title=

All the sculptors who made your fave GSC/Max figures were there too. They need more sculptors so if you fancy working for them (can sculpt and live in Japan) then let us know!

GSC and MAX party title=

Cant remember the last time I played Bingo so it was a pleasant surprise - although I knew at the beginning that I wasn't going to win anything as my fate has decided that I shall not win but instead have to earn or work for it ^^;

GSC and MAX party title=

Lovely lady reading out the numbers. I think she was a Seiyuu.

GSC and MAX party title=

Among the prizes were money, tickets for expense paid trips, iPods, huge stacks of Gunpla etc. There were also booby prizes like tooth brushes and stress balls ^^;

GSC and MAX party title=

This lady got a yummy Penguin Musume DVD box set.

GSC and MAX party title=

Hector won a diet machine type thing ^^;

GSC and MAX party title=

Working with the Good Smile team has been great. I feel that they are much different from many typical Japanese companies. For example, Some companies who I work with take forever to decide something because nobody is given responsibility. The head of X needs to ask his boss, that boss has to ask her boss etc etc.

GSC are also great at embracing change. Many Japanese companies establish processes which is taught to new staff throughout time. Staff don't think to question the process even though there could be a better way of doing it.

While embracing change at the beginning can be time consuming to introduce new processes, the time saved/efficiency gained in the long run is worth it.

GSC and MAX party title=

During the bingo session, multiple people would strike bingo and when that happens its time for Junken which is "Paper Scissors Stone." Is there a shorter English word than "Paper Scissors Stone"? @.@

GSC and MAX party title=

"Gu" is "Stone".
"Chokki" is "Scissors".
"Pa" is "Paper.
When you draw its called "Aiko." Junken is still popular in Japan even among adults. I use Junken to decide who gets something but I always suggest Reverse Junken where the looser wins ^^;

GSC and MAX party title=

A close up of that Penguin Musume Box Set. Want!

GSC and MAX party title=

At the end, we all start to play Junken for cash prizes ^^;

GSC and MAX party title=

The boss of Max Factory - Max Watanabe makes a speech.

GSC and MAX party title=

Then Aki - boss of Good Smile makes a speech. Wow. I wish I could share what is being planned ^^
Any announcements will be made at the Good Smile English site at Danny's Corner.

GSC and MAX party title=

Mu!? Speaking of Danny's Corner, what is this I spy with my little mince pies?

GSC and MAX party title=

Nu?! Lovely pair of thighs is causing heavy loss of body fluids (blood/saliva). see more pics of what this is in today's post at Danny's Corner over at the Good Smile English site.

Danny's corner will continue to be the place where you can see all the Good Smile manufactured/distributed figures before they are released.

Just a quick question about the format of that post - would you like to see images that big in articles at dannychoo.com or are they too big?
I'm concerned that many are still on slow connections - a page of 40 images at that size may take ages to load for some folks.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

This item was posted in the Good Smile Company category. You can see more of everything else or subscribe via RSS instead.

    GSC needs more sculptors? Gaah, I wish I was better. >.< Maybe after I take figure sculpting next semester. ;)

    As for the images, I like the current format. The size is large enough to see some decent details even with my monster monitor, but not so big that it takes days to load or anything. On the other hand, sometimes images don't load at all, and I just get the little blue "?" box. When that happens, I usually open it in a new window and it comes up fine for some reason.

      Speaking of GSC and sculpting, anyone know what that epoxy putty they use is called? I've found out American companies use something called Kneadatite, but that comes out dark green rather than the neon color that Danny's studio photos depict. . .

      You should! It's a blast. I recommend starting off with polymer clays like Sculpy and Fimo, because they're easy to find and fairly forgiving as far as sculpting mediums go. Oh, and armatures are love. :D Have fun!

    images on Dannychoo.com is fine.
    but i do have one complain about those on the GSC site. the landscape horizontal images are fine, but the portrait vertical ones are a tad too big. although I see the point of having the vertically oriented image width similar to the landscape oriented image width is to not have your article more streamlined and without gaps.
    btw they are giving away gunpla?!? now I really wish I was invited. lol!

    About picture sizes, I think the current size is good; otherwise you end up scrolling just to see 2 pictures. If a high-res is available 'behind' the shown image, it's all good in case you want to save something.

    I try to mingle/network with new people as much as I could, but I'm very particular of which person I'll talk to, whether the talks will open down to many opportunities or it just simply a waste-of-time gossip. What environment you choose to be in will determine who you will become in the future, so choose wisely.

    I prefer lower resolution photo on article, when click on it will birng forward a new window that display original (large) size of the high quality photo.

    I'm not fond of mingling. I'm not a very social person. I feel that if you know a lot of people than you're increasing the chance of people using you/taking advantage of you (i.e. making the wrong kind of friends). I only talk to someone when that someone talks to me first.

    I guess it really depends on how much images you have in one post Danny... big pictures are nice when you have few of them.
    Like on the Members Area.

    But when you have lots of them, it gets kinda hard to roll down the page.

    And it also depends on content. Big pictures are nice when you have many details to show.

    Anyways, I think they are at a adequate size the way they are now.. :D And you can always click to see a bigger version. :D

    Hmm, I have done a bit of sculpting but for minor mods on figures, I don't think i would rate my skills for a whole figure so looks like working as a sculptor is out.

    Painting however, I can do! Any chance that they need painters danny? I would love to have a crack and paint some of their prototypes before they get released!

    As for the other thing, I would say that the pics are a little too big. Fast load times are important but so long as the pic numbers aren't too high, then it shouldn't be a problem. But if more pics are needed, then maybe a resize would be in order...

    I don't really mingle much - which is a problem, because like all entertainment industries so much film work is dependant on networking. I just don't talk to people often enough to get invited to parties, or people see me as the type to refuse all invitations so they don't bother. ><

    "For example, Some companies who I work with take forever to decide something because nobody is given responsibility. The head of X needs to ask his boss, that boss has to ask her boss etc etc."

    Well, this kind of system sometimes works with some Japanese companies and it is this system that took with the likes of Toyota to where is it now.

    But what's great about Japan is the ability to have the tradition and change side-by-side.

    Maybe sometime I would make some business with GSC and Maxfactory in the future ^____^

    I'm in Michigan, and we usually call it "Rock Paper Scissors." We also use "thumb wars" to solve conflicts.

    The party seemed like fun and the food looked amazing. It's a shame I rarely mingle, but I suppose I will have time for that after graduation. We share the same bingo fate--I have never won a single game. The prizes were much nicer at this party though~

    Tip: Claim the prize you want in your mind Danny, as if it belongs in your hands, worked for me recently when I wanted the prize badly enough x3

    I used to go to the city almost every Monday when I was working closer [25mins or so via express train] for life drawing and got together with some people from the SMASH forum to draw [haven't been in a while as I live 1hr away]. Apart from church on Thursdays and Saturdays [only really chat with 2 people there], I can only meet up with my two closest friends about once every 2 months or so for dinner, we're all so busy ^^;; And I attend anime conventions when possible [Sydney].

    As for images, I like how they are now, even on cable they take a while to load, and if I really like the image for some reason, I view the original at flickr
