A Week in Tokyo 23

Particularly busy in Tokyo this week. Major milestone completions, Portal redesign launch and filming - an extremely fulfilling week. Next week will be filled with external meetings, Chara Hobby, server migrations to be followed the following week by more major TV network filming and if all goes well the launch of one of my clients English websites.

Cant mention which news network carried out the filming but will announce once its on air - you will be able to see it online. Here you see us going through a box of puchi nendoroids.

Out of all the media appearances I've made, this one is the biggest and pretty much covers the entire globe. They cover my work in Tokyo and film me working with one of my clients at their office which also gives them exposure too. The news feature wil also be the first news network to announce a certain thingy ^^; Very much looking forward to this one.
Comrades who are website owners will know that I try my best to channel traffic to their sites instead of attempting to keep everybody behind a silo - will continue to carry out my duty of sharing because sharing is good for everyone.

And then we hit Shibuya for some filming of Japanese Girls ^^;
Need to find a way to easily update the media apperance list which keeps growing ^^;

Mc Dees are doing 100 yen for each of these deals. Anybody thought "Shanna" as soon as you saw this?

The mascots for Sato Pharmaceutical. They can be seen outside pharmacies but don't usually wear T-shirts.

Fancy having your feet massaged for 35 mins at a laughable 4,200 yen?

Or how about a shoulder massage - 10 mins for 1,050 yen.

Kaisen Yakisoba - 1,050 yen. Mikuru and Nunchucks - priceless (because shes a SAF) ^^;

Getting decent shoes in my size in Tokyo is a pain. I'm a UK size 10 and not many places do that size. I had to go all the way to Kichijoji where the head Nike store is just for these trainers. They were about 7,000 yen.
I would have thought that with the change in Japanese eating habits that the lads would have bigger feet by now. Anybody here have the same problem?
I usually get my shoes when I'm overseas. The last batch of shoes I got was from LA last year.

There is something about being in Mc Dees which creates an atmosphere that allows you to easily ponder stuff as you look out the window. I've spoken to many Japanese friends who feel the same too. Maybe Mc Dees are sticking something in the coke ^^;

Many folks in the media are writing that the iPhone boom is over now that everywhere seems to have them in stock and the monthly payment has dropped from 7,280 yen to 2,990 yen.

The colonel gets in the Matsuri mood.

Shop selling second hand stuff which seems to be getting more n more popular. You is being having second hand stuff around the house?

Half boiled egg on peas n bacon - about 200 yen.

Meitaiko Spaghetti with seaweed - about 400 yen.

More half boiled egg shenanigans in a kaisendon set - 880 yen.

Meeting up with some readers including Nekoguchi, Windbell and Adun. While I don't get to meet all readers who contact me due to the schedule, I do manage to get away once in a while.

Sour Salmon with vegetables - 800 yen.

As you may have guessed by now, raw or half boiled eggs are part of the Japanese diet. Are you the type who only eats eggs well done? Have you tried raw egg while in Japan?

Cost about 12,000 yen for a new Eneos battery.

If there is one thing I love about Japan its the roadworks. They always have little men waving their mini light sabers guiding pedestrians and traffic.

You know exactly when the roadworks are going to finish. These guys are going to be finished on the same day at 6PM.
The roadworks back in the UK were terrible. They went on forever and if you peeked in the holes left in the road you would see traffic cones and always newspaper.
The roadworks in Seattle were pretty bad too which also went on forever. Roadworks go on forever in your region or come and go swiftly?

New figures arrive every week and seem to be spending more time dusting and figuring out what stays or what goes ^^;
On average, how often do you get a new figure?
If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.
If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

I'm a poor guy that doesn't have any money for figures....I need a job. But If I don't graduate there is no job. Mehh...Study instead I must. The only figures I actually have that could count as them is a huge gundam wing toy and some figures I won from a contest from a game called Manga Fighter. My life long dream is to have a Kosmos V4 figure. I may never realize that dream. But that is the figure that has left me in awe since the first time I saw it on the internet.

It's a shame, I can eat almost ANYTHING, I love food, especially Japanese food, but raw egg is one thing that I have never been able to staand the taste of, Suppose that when I finally make it over there, I'm going to need to either learn to like raw egg, or just skip raw egg meals all together, looks like Danny does a good deal of raw egg eating.

And road repairs here in Toronto can last for over half a year to a year. Traffic suffers. It could be because everyone here is laid back and have no pressure to work harder than they need to.

Around here they keep lines of cones and signs in place for months after the roadworks are actually finished.
The only problem here is finding decent shoes because I don't like trainers... loads of cheap ugly rubbish but good shoes are as hard to find as good women.
I was told there is a risk of salmonella from raw eggs.
I buy figures whenever I can, which is not often - I do know a good dealer but he relies on US import!

I try to buy a few figures a month, a mix of maybe one "statue" and some trading figures or action figures.
I totally agree with this, the roadworks over here in the UK take the piss, but thats mainly due to the fact that construction workers over here, especially in London, are so damn lazy. I remember by my house they were doing "roadworks". Took two months and when it was over we realized all they were doing was refurbishing some of the pavement.

That's quite a full plate you got there Danny...taking over the world one day at a time...as for figures I usually look around until there's a figure that I feel I absolutely must have and fits my budget before purchasing...so that's usually waiting til local stores have it or the Anime Expo once a year...

Usually 1-2 f year is my limit. For Japan 50$ for a figure may be fine, but here, in Russia, 50$ is worth 2 weeks of food. My salary is 300$ (It's ok here, don't laugh), so i can't really help it. I Reallt would like at least 1 a month. Not gonna happen in a visible future, though XD.

Raw egg you say? Quite interesting to me. I've always tried to stick to all my food, except the times I get sushi, to be cooked in hopes of not getting food poisoning again. About the question, i don't get figures every week, but when i get some, it's a huge package with 5 to 8 figures in it (or more, when there are petit nendoroids in it). That's because i let them put aside and save them, until there are more then 3 to 4 figures saved. But from the amount of pre-ordered figures, i could say i get every week figures ^_^

I only get a figure every so many months. Don't really have room or budget for more so I get those I like the most only. (Plus such moderation makes me enjoy the ones I do have, don't want them to be lost in a swarm so to speak.)
My shoe size is 7 to 7,1/2 so I have to be lucky to still find the small sizes for shoes... >_<
Road construction sites are better flagged these days over here. They heightened the visibility and alerting boards/lights since we had quite a few lethal accidents when trucks or cars would drive full speed into cars standing still due to road construction. Though alas it still does happen...

Seems like you got quite a busy weekend Danny. Looking forward to the videos. Regarding the questions you asked: I like eggs but only fully boiled. I dont like the squishy type of egg white and yolk in the half boiled eggs. Me got small feet, so no problem of shoe sizes. ANd figures come on monthly basis or sometimes every two weeks. That reminds me of the decreasing space to keep them O^O.

We have a joke in this town that there are only two seasons. Winter and road construction, so it goes without saying that road works happen almost through out the year. I always figured if I ever lived in Japan I would have to come back to the States once a year for clothes shopping. 'Cause at 6'4" and a size 16 US shoe I doubt there is any place in Japan were I could find clothes or shoes that would fit. Sticking coke in the coke perhaps? ^^; Well they do rape the rainforests for their beef farms, perhaps they found some indigenous plant as an additive that makes you lucid. But most likely just something cooked up in a lab like the additive that they throw in there to make their food addictive.

Roadworks in my country? Well the roads here are always under construction and those that aren't are so broken down and have so many potholes they might as well not be roads

Heh, I probably got into figures from visiting this site so often. I tend to buy them when my financial radar goes in that direction. Roadworks here aren't so bad. There is never a set time when they are going to finish though. *sigh* Man, I need to get a camera so I can jump on the Danny Choo bandwagon! ^^

I remember my first real figure (as in not cold-cast, not gashapon or shokugan) was a bust-type of Saya and Haji from Blood+. It was like $50 or so and I thought that was sorta outrageous but I loved the series a lot. Now I know that $50 is like base price for that kinda stuff. I know PVC figures were around before like 2005 or 2006 when I acquired her, but I look back at like pre-2004 figures and a lot of them look really hideous by today's standards. They must've implemented crazy new production methods or at the very least better sculptors since then. But the latter probably isn't true, because I used to see garage kits in magazines in like the 90's that were pure awesome.

I've tried to drink raw egg like twice... It was one of the worse feeling and taste ever, but I forced it down anyway.
I do enjoy half cooked eggs(soft-boiled) where the yolk still leaks out.
There are plenty of figures which I want, but I am able to control myself and choose only the few which I REALLY want. So I get a figure like once every 2-3 months. May get a few more under special circumstances.
I've never heard or seen a rice burger before. Looks like it will all fall apart as soon as you bite in to it.
I would love to be able to meet up with you Danny when I visit Tokyo at the end of the year.

wow lots of eggs... yes, the first thing i thot of when i saw the melon-pan was shana, i bought one from a local japanese store but i have a feeling that it wasnt a good one bc it was sorta mushy and sticky and stuff, didnt shana say its like a cookie-ish outside with a soft inside...?

Road constructions go really slow in Canada since people here are somewhat laid back so it can take months. It's not just road construction, any kind of constructions or maintenance basically.
I get new figures every month depending on my budget ^^ and I can eat any type of eggs (raw, boiled, scrambled, half-done, etc).

seem like japan folk like half boiled/raw eggs a lot.
for me student, eating instant noodle with half boiled eggs (put noodle, raw egg in a bowl then pour water in, waiting for 1-2 min) is a daily menu (saving money for one day to buy a figure from japan)

Eggs travel a long distance around here, and I have some concerns about the cleanliness of facilities and shops I get them in, so I won't eat them in any other way than fully-cooked. If I were in a place where I could guarantee the quality, I might have a different position.
As for roadwork, we have a joke in Canada that we have two seasons, Winter and Roadwork. The temperature extremes lead to the roads heaving, and that means lots and lots of repairs needed. At the moment, my city is experiencing a building boom, so we get more roadwork as more roads and train tracks are needed to cope with the population increase.
As for the filming, I'm looking forward to those newsclips!

I buy the majority of my shoes when I go to Japan (I have a small collection, mainly Nikes). I am a U.S. size 10 (28cm) and I find that ABC Mart http://www.abc-mart.com/index.html generally always stock up to my size or a 28.5cm (which I believe is a U.K. size 10 according to this conversion chart: http://www.i18nguy.com/l10n/shoes.html). Sports Depot http://www.sportsdepot.com/footwear.html usually have bigger sizes too. I find both of these places to be considerably cheaper than buying locally and they will often have the shoes I want months before they are available locally. Maybe you could try one of those places Danny? I also find that shoe stores I've visited in Tokyo tend to stock larger sizes (up to US size 11 or 12!) than in more regional places like Kanazawa, where I spend the majority of my time when in Japan. :)
Roadworks go on forever and ever and ever. The route I take to work every day is undergoing a major five year upgrade at cost of AUD $1.88 Billion. We are one year in and the traffic is even worse than before. http://gup.com.au/asp/index.asp My commute should take 40-50 minutes each way but regularly takes 1.5 - 2hrs :(
I was very sceptical about uncooked eggs to begin with but I love it now. My favourite is using it as a dipping sauce for things like Sukiyaki.
Mos Burger is great! I love their spicy burgers.

I wish we had reliable road work over here~
The main road I took to my Uni was closed off and on for 2 whole months!
It was put a pipe in... I wouldn't have minded so much if it was construction on a road with millions of pot holes (like most of the roads around here)~ But it wasn't even something that would benifit most people...
The road I had to take to replace it was not only 2X as busy... but a much longer ride... Making my 45min trip about 1hour 15 minutes.... And It was during the time when gas prices were highest of course. I did learn though if got past there before 7AM or After 8PM the road was opened though. So I started going out of my way to wake up early and leave late on certain days.
6 Months later the road is opened... but they just put a bunch of gravel on it and never actually paved itO.o They even put up signs saying "Travel at your own risk"~ because its not very safe feeling...
http://quentinlau.blogspot.com
I wish I have more time to check out your posts... orz
But nevertheless hahaha I have to agree with you Danny that the British roadworks take forever. The lads over there like to take their time while having all these "Health and Safety precautions" in their minds. Even Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear proves it and tried to show them that an ordinary road could be done within 24 hours (in a very sloppy way) rather than several months of inefficiency..
Hong Kong has a lot of road maintenance here and there. Luckily people do get their job done in time due to the usual Asian culture. It's worth noting that a lot of the workers are actually from other countries such as Pakistan.

Out of curiosity, how many eggs do you consume in a day, Danny?
I used to eat about 6-8 per week several years ago (I worked out a lot). Now I try to limit it down since I'm getting old. I like half-boiled eggs. It's pretty common to find this in Asia.

Well I used to get one every 2 weeks to at most a month for new figurines. It's just that the summer was really bad since the supplier hasn't given our local figurine/gundam shop his goods. And that's bad.
It's like 2 months overdue and still hasn't gotten the first order. Sad thing is, his supplier 'moved' and 'misplaced' his order and is in a mess. (Not surprised if the supplier's clients are also pissed off) All due to mishandling and a 'sudden' vacation they decided to take without notifying our local store -.-''
THANKS.... But still around a month or longer now, since he'll be looking for a new one
