You may remember the Osaka Bang video that I posted a while ago which shows how folks in Osaka react to being shot by an invisible gun and cut down by an invisible sword.

When I was guest blogging at BoingBoing, I wrote up a post introducing this phenomena and soon after Tim at Trophy Wife saw my post and went and made an American version!

Watch the video below to see how Americans act to being shot by an invisible gun.

For those who could not be bothered to watch, folks reacted more to being attacked my martial arts instead.
And the original Osaka Bang clip below.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

    Funny... i mean how they basicaly ignore guns but jump at martial arts... ^^;

The japanese did react a lot better in my opinion, as in - better acting skills hehe.

Anyhow, cool someone did do that... now i wonder who does it in germany!? ;)

It's a bit skewed considering he went to a theme park to do it...

I guess guns are no joke? Being shot requires faster reflexes on the victim's part than a karate challenge.

I mean, I think if the gun thing was done in a theme park in Japan, reactions would be even more hillarious... xD

I think this guy missed the point... The original video was showing how people in Osaka react, not Japanese people in general. I love the way he changes his focus from "Japanese people" to "Asian people." Yatta, Mr. Ugly American!

Oh yeah, and the little cowboy hat and bandana, too. Is that suppose to give people some idea of what he's doing? I'd like to see him try this somewhere a little rougher, perhaps Houston's 5th Ward. Yee haw.

It's seems almost every person he shot at seems to be your typical "wake up, go to work, go home, ignore each other" suburban dweller.
I think Americans don't like to joke about guns or pretend to shoot people because of the occasional public shooting rampage you hear every so often. couple that with the fact that access to guns is easy (legal or not) compared to other countries, I know times aren't like the wild wild west but the fact is America still is in love with its guns.
I still wonder why people are so quick to react with martial arts. Maybe because the danger is easily visible? sometimes you can't tell why a person is faking or not.

You need to kind of take into account the cultural factors that affect these statistics--the law, the culture, the history of gun control in the country, how easy it is to acquire weapons, where these deaths are taking place, what demographics are causing the deaths, etc. I have lived near several cities where there are people killed almost every week in muggings or gang violence. Gun or no, people still get killed because there was a motivation to commit a violent crime and the gun was just the weapon of opportunity.

          True.
Notice in many of these places, a gun ownership is not permitted(not counting hunting arms), yet the numbers!
There are no relations between having a gun and killing someone vs. not having a gun and not killing someone.

this is great! i never imagined people would react to a karate guy but not to a cowboy with a gun.... this should be a world wide experiment to see where ppl cooperate and with what. i might try it someday... XD

I'm not quite sure what would happen if someone randomly did that to me while I was walking around. I guess it would depend entirely on my mood at the time; if I were in a hurry and needed to get someplace important then I probably wouldn't pay much attention to him while if I were just walking around idly, just killing time, I would probably play along with it.

"Guns don't resonate with Americans." --I didn't expect that answer!!! DX

It was pretty hilarious though when they reacted to him doing martial arts.

I dunno how I would react if this happened to me. I would probably play along but then again I'm always in a hurry so I might not even notice it if someone did that x_x

The opposite of Osaka Bang results. I think US is common to guns related crime and do not take fun out of it. As for martial arts, they think of Jackie Chan...

    ^.^ This guy is funny.

the city man's respond is not as good as in japan's, but still they won't do anything bad in return(not like in some country. which you might end up being beaten.)

By they way, danny, your new banner which located at the bottom, will be runned over by the youtube video....lol

Well I think the whole test was pointless from the time he decided to do that in a theme park. He should have done that on the streets...

But it shows how Americans think and behave (no offence). Never look week and so when someone shoots at you, you won't do anything. But if you get the chance to look cool, go for it lol...

I think Japanese are much more focused on the fun and just have to react on everything haha

Wow. Japanese people really seem to be pretty cool with playing around with things like this. We Americans always just look at the person doing this and go, "WTF do you think you're doing?" I do admit, that if somebody would do this to me in public.. I would totally play around with it. As I am dieing from the gun shot, I pull my pistol out and fire back.;)

Well, when the guy was doing martial arts moves people would interact with him. Americans, as opposed to Japanese, are much more sensitive when it comes to guns... it's not as much of a joke since many more people here die from them.
