    Nice helpers there! I used to have to clean mine (had 3 computers running 3 keyboards) like that about every 2 weeks. Eventually I learned to eat sitting way back from keyboard and never touch it when eating any thing greasy or cheesy. I also always remove all windows keyboard keys and then you can just use the compressed air to blow out the smaller natural debrie. Its been a long time since I have taken one apart now (I am GOOD at it now! - not getting food in keyboard).

    Do love the miniaturization of the appearance of the shot above.

    a guy who cares (sort of...)

    Right now I'm using Logitech UltraX keyboard and so far it's the best keyboard I've ever had but cleaning it is a big problem. Standard shaking up doesn't help so I have to be more rough, and in the process the silver paint on the lower corners simply comes off... Disassembling the keyboard is not a good idea either, in my first try I just couldn't put some keys back so... I had to buy a new keyboard and for a simple (although flat) keyboard almost without any extra keys and similar useless addons UltraX can be pretty expensive ;( .

      haha. I was scared of that concept so I bought a vacuum set for keyboards since that provided me with somebody to blame if it went wrong. Basically it's a mouth piece for a normal vacuum cleaner and it has a very thin end that makes it possible to clean between the keys. Great idea.... but the keyboard is still dusty below the keys after using that thing.... simply not worth the money. The only solution appears to be manually remove all keys and then clean with cloth and/or cold water and let it dry.

    Nice picture. Seeing how the keys are removed made me wonder so I googled for somebody cleaning a keyboard similar to mine to verify that I could take keys on and off. Turned out that I can so now I fixed the key that needed much more force than the other keys. It still needs a bit more force and I really wonder about that because it's not dirtier than the other keys at all.

    Thanks Danny. You made me do what I have been thinking of doing for a while ^^

    I usually clean my swab the sides of my keys with a Q-tip and pop out the keys when it gets too messy on the bottom. ^^;

    Keyboards are getting very cheap online these days. Soon it'd unreasonable to buy a can of compressed air when you can get a spanking new keyboard for the same amount..

    I clean my keyboard once a month as well as the mouse and I wash the mouse pad which many people over look specially in the workplace. I never knew how bad the mouse pad could get until I noticed a smog haze on my x files mouse pad so I put it in the sink and took some dish soap to it. After 5 minutes of scrubbing I turned on the warm water and started rinsing it and out came dirty water the color of coffee with a dash of mud.

    I usually use a can of compressed air to blow stuff out of mine every week or so, and also wipe it down. Every few months I'll take off the keys and clean it out more thoroughly.

    My last keyboard was probably 20 years old and was really dirty at the end. It was made way before the windows key was invented. It's still the best keyboard I ever used, now I use a 8$ logitech keyboard, when it'll get dirty in a year or two I'll just get a new one.

    you know if you have a membrane switch keyboard you can actually just toss it in the dishwasher with out soap and set it on warm and turn off auto dry. After that's done just leave it out to dry for about a week in a window and it'll be good as new. I've done it twice successfully.
