Good Smile Warehouse title=

UPDATE: Sorry - you can enlarge the photos in this article now - t'was a bug on this end.

Have you ever wanted to raid the Good Smile Company warehouses? If the answer is "yes" then come raid with me and Mikatan. ^^;

Good Smile Warehouse title=

The warehouse is huuuge so we'll need to feed our belly with some good grub at the Max Factory's restaurant Indo Tei.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Located 150 feet underground are the Good Smile warehouses. I was blindfolded while they drove me to the secret location.
Upon arrival I see a stack load of Figma Lelouch being lead off to Amazon.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

More Lulu Figmas.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Stack of Yuki Nagato Figmas freshly arrived from China.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Stack of the metal allow Tachikoma that I gave you a sneak peak at the other day.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Lemme explain a little bit about what Good Smile Company do.
Good Smile Company started off as a talent agency many moons ago.
They then went into making accessories and still do in their other company called Dico Kick.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Later Good Smile became the distributor of products for Max Factory. Good Smile handled the logistics, marketing, PR, Web development etc while Max Factory concentrated on making figures.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Now Good Smile manufacture their own line of figures - the standard scale figures and the Nendoroids.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Good Smile also handle logistics, Marketing and PR for other figure makers too which is why you will see figures from many different makers on their website.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

And because Good Smile handle logistics for these companies, their warehouse is full of figures from a load of different makers.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

The warehouse contains every single figure to date from Max Factory, Good Smile and all the other companies that Good Smile look after.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Boxes with red tape contain figures for free replacements.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

I don't know if they still have them on TV but do you remember the shows where a person gets to raid a supermarket and stuff as much as they can in their cart?
Its a great feeling ^^;

Good Smile Warehouse title=

5 tons of Rize.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

There recently was an Anime Blog Awards where many of you voted for dannychoo.com under "Best Figurine Blog."

Thank you to all those who voted for me under this category. To me its an indication that you have been enjoying the figure coverage including the tours of the figure makers in the Japan Office Tour category and reviews of figures before they hit the streets like the Nida review, Hatsune Miku preview etc.

The boss at Good Smile is a good comrade of mine and we are working closely together to bring you *much* more figure related stuff in the future. 2008 is so exciting!

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Do you remember the huge warehouse at the end of "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark?" - I felt like I was in such a warehouse but the goods in this warehouse were much more exciting than an ark that could talk to the gods.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Being in the Good Smile warehouses surrounded by figures is like being in heaven I guess ^^;

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Without the guidance I'm sure I would have got lost ^^;

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Good Smile have two warehouses - one for shipping goods to retailers and the other for general use.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

This is the general use warehouse where figures can be easily picked.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

A load of Mai, Kureha, Iroha and Rider figures.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Stacks and stacks of figures.

Good Smile Warehouse title=
Good Smile Warehouse title=

The warehouse also contains a load of packaging material.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

A load of promo material lying around too.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Figures reaching up to the ceiling.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

The molds for previous figures are kept here too. This is a mold for Max Factory Mai's shoulder.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Good Smile Maid Saber.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

There are also a load of exclusive figures here and there too. If you saw their rubbish bin then I'm sure you would commit seppuku ^^; I was like WHAAAT?!!!

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Then its back to headquarters to continue meetings.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Cant wait to move to a bigger office and have these glass shelves full O figures.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

One end of the meeting room has a load of Gunlpla made by the boss of Max Factory Max Watanabe. This is his Destiny.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Impulse.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Freedom.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Akatsuki.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Justice. Yes I still remember the names of Gundams ^^;

Good Smile Warehouse title=

But this one is on the tip of my tongue ^^;

Good Smile Warehouse title=

Completely forgot about this Max Makoto Sawatari figure.

Good Smile Warehouse title=

And that's it for today. Look forward much more stuff from us that will contribute to the figure collecting community and make it easier for you to get hold of figures.
If you are looking for other sources of figure news then there are a load over at Otaku.fm.

I get many mails from folks who started to collect figures after seeing the figure coverage here and I was wondering what the percentage was. Was you a figure collector before you started reading dannychoo.com or became collector after? Or do you have no interest in figures whatsoever?

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.

My love for figures started with Danny's review of the Max Factory Kureha last year. Although I failed to acquire one for myself despite searching thoroughly for months, I just recently found and bought one at a rather hefty premium price. No regrets! I've got 1 and a half cabinets full of figures and Gunpla now ;)

I gotta be honest I always wanted to collect figures but the prices were too high for something that doesn't do anything but sit there. Once I found out about figmas here on your site I finally started collecting. Statues just don't please me as much I like figures that are pose able. I'd love to see what's in the rubbish bin. Promotional materials probably don't get out to the US huh? Is there any way you could maybe get a hold of some promo materials and give them to members of your site?

Can't begin to imagine what it must've been like to stroll through there. I'd probably fall to my knees and cry at the sight of a mountain of Nida. @___@

Thanks, as always, for showing us around behind the scenes. Any chance you might be able to get us a look at Kaiyodo's Revoltech headquarters?

As for the poll question, Danny is indeed responsible for my (so-far) small figure collection. My girlfriend is putting up with it so far, so I'm not going to push it by getting too many, but some essentials – Nida, Yoko (when somebody makes the right one), and of course, when she comes along, Mirai ^___^ – she seems willing to tolerate. (Lucky for me.)

I wasn't a huge collector due to money reasons but that has all changed. I started before reading DC where I was reading other ppl's rant's and hobbies. That's pretty much what triggered my hunger as a figure collector. Now, after being in the figure scene for a while I'm getting into other misc. items as well. ^^

Was always interested in them but couldnt justify the price for an inanimate piece of resin/plastic/metal. Oh, how blind was I??? After converting to Dannyism the path is clear, it's so obvious now. It's all your fault Dan! =p Hmm actually i wanted to bring this up for a while, since you are rather famous in these circles, i'm sure you have some power to push around. I know you advertise for many stores that sell everything otaku, is there a way that we could become like elite dannychoo members on the site and earn points that can work towards a discount off your sponsors or those you advertise for? Or like have special promotional items for dannychoo memebrs, anyways you get my point.

Not sure exactly how it would work but that would be really cool.

LoL the first pic is hilarious! Danny running away with all the phat loot!

Initially, I had tried to control myself from buying figurines before, and I managed to control it for about 3 years (the urge!!). But with the release of Max Factory's Sawatari Makoto, I was totally overwhelmed and made my first ever pre-order last year for her. But I guess it's also due to reading and seeing all the beautiful figures on dannychoo.com that also led to me starting this hobby.

I really like the figures and whatnot, but my wallet is incredibly stubborn on spending that much cash for something that would just sit in display. Curse that Finance class teaching proper money management and what's considered a need and a want!

Danny's review of Alter Saber made me go and get her. Got extremely tired of losing my glasses between my dresser and secretary-now I have Saber hold them for me =) Not a single Negative comment from any of my friends or guests at my place. They think its pretty cool, especially since she holds my cleaning cloth as well-looks like she just got done with the beach. At my workspace ive got Max Factory Haruhi on my desk reminding people to take a survey. I use to have Mirei too, but she was a little too risque. Its a fun little hobby, but can get expensive real quick. If Max Factory puts out a Haruhi long hair version in 1/8 or larger my wallet is gone. Off topic-does anyone know if San Diego Comic Con has figure sellers?

When I started collecting (here in Vancouver BC) I was in early high school and didn't know where to get stuff so when I came across something form a show I liked (no matter what it was really), I'd buy it. So I have alot of figures I'm not particularly attached to. Up until a year ago it was kind of like this. However, now, I'm kind of exclusively Max Factory/Good Smile as they make the best quality best priced figures that I can usually find a way to obtain.

Read more about my figures at my blog: http://blog.cleartranquil.com

As for those photos....and in light of what I mentioned above (about WHAT I am collecting right now). If I wasn't a Christian I'd give my soul to go to that warehouse...but...I'm a Christian, I'd only give a left nut to go there.

But while both Danny and Shingo have helped make it easier for my paycheck to fly out of my wallet like doves in a John Woo film, they've definitely helped me make better choices and avoid the 'buyers remorse' I experienced numerous times when a figure arrived.

Danny, the tip of the tongue one is the Force Impulse Gundam- I have a 1/100 right now sitting in my garage that needs some TLC. THOSE ARE GUNPLA MODELS! FANTASTIC! I love them (and want to make 'em like that, but they are very hard to find in my area). You're mean, lol showing all of these boxes and pallets- I just got off of work a few hours ago =p. That's also pretty cool that you were able to handle some of the moulds. Those moulds should be top secret schtuff- From what I gather from my figure Ignis most good quality figues today are made from a good high quality polymer (technical jargon- let's go with pvc and vinyl ^^). For the intricacy of the figures and high quality I cannot find evidence of injection moulding, and that is confirmed by the type of mould you have there. Because of the high quality materials and manufacturing processes the costs are a bit higher. Worth the money though in most cases. Then why am I not buying? tight wallet atm x_x.

Wow, the boss of Max Factory sure must be skilled and creative to color his gunpla like that. They all look amazing!

I started collecting when I was in elementary. I started collecting Zoids back then. Right now I have some 30+ Zoids all displayed in one shelf (some of them are already broken). I tried collecting Gundams starting from those small scale ones but they looked so darn plain. Back then of course I didn't know you were suppose to pain them. I stopped and started collecting mini models of fighter aircraft (they're called 4D puzzle something, their container looked like gashapons shaped like a pilot's helmet). When I stumbled over this site around 6 months ago that's when I started collecting figures. Right now I have 5 figures from gashapons, 2 fake figures (yes, I have been a victim too) and one real figure I got from a convention that was held just this May, a Lucy Maria Misora from ToHeart 2 figure made by Good Smile company.

In my dreams, I'll be inside that warehouse, opening every box to see what goodies they have inside and going "woooo... wooooah!" Are those Max Factory Mai Shiranui (20364) and Ignis (20351/20353) boxes? Oh, wow, there must be bunches of other figures in there that I've always wanted! And that must be Max Factory Kasumi (20352) over there! And you mentioned exclusive figures? I can't bear the thought that special figures like the GSC WF 2007 Summer nendoroid Hetare Saber are in some forgotten corner of the warehouse.

I can't believe the molds for the figures are kept there as well. I've always wanted to see how the molds are like. Say, shouldn't the companies be keeping the molds in nuclear-bomb resistant bunkers, kept behind pressure plates, motion sensors and ninjas?

I've collected figures before I came to visit Dannychoo.com regularly. But the community and Dannychoo updates have caused me to take a closer look on some figures I would have otherwise missed (and causing me to go on figure buying sprees). I also appreciate the coverage on GSC visits, which is very educational. If the fine folks at GSC ever ask, let them know that while figure companies like Max Factory and Alter produce some very nice figures, I've come to see GSC as more than just a company that produces figures of excellent quality.

Keep up the great work, Danny!

Did not know figures existed until I randomly hit your site through Google Images; eventually re-found this infinite hoard of irresistible eyecandy.

Very informative article with regards to history of GSC and what they do.

As for collecting marketing data, my figures thus far are all GSC or GSC-affiliated, yet for old figures, I've had to obtain them from individuals, and not distributors, since I am new to collecting and am starting slowly. I assume that the older it is, the ever-more-difficult it would be to obtain, so I am playing catch-up. What scares me from pursuing collecting is that a figure is considered out of print on its first wave and subsequent runs are subject to popularity? Could I be playing catch-up forever because I am not made of money? This partly shapes my decision to be very selective until I can transition from playing catch-up to be placing pre-orders only. Seems less stressful to not be hunting things down.

Personally, I started collecting 4 months before finding out about DannyChoo.com. But whenever I see Danny's 'SAFs' and 'Company Tour' posts, I feel the sudden urge to collect and buy more stuff in the vain hope of overtaking Danny. But I believe that that will never happen. :)

AFTER!!! After I started regularly reading DC.com I became an avid figure collector, and thats when my bank balance became basically non-existant lol. It was never very big to begin with, cos I would spend it on manga or anime or other stuff*cough*pokemon/yugioh cards*cough* Least now I have some sort of planned destination for my hard earned cash instead of impulse buys heheh.

AND OMG DANNY-SAN YOU LUCKY SONOFA!!! I wish I coulda raided that warehouse Indie-style.... :sob:

I didnt have much interest in figures, but I did buy a few to see what they were like after reading your reviews. Can safely say I wont be collecting any, however I do like posable figures and I like gundam kits/mecha related characters. Max watanabe modeling talent makes even fitchenfoos work look plain in comparison, I like that shade of gold on that 1/100 akatsuki.

Those recon photos are excellent. Navigation thru the warehouse should be easy even with night vision goggles on. Being 150 feet under I'll have to descend by cable & harness thru the airduct. I'll have to work something out as my sneaking stealth suit shrank in the wash. The abundance of packaging tape could prove to make figure extraction extremely difficult. Perhaps I've said too much. Curse you Goodsmile!

If moe was a material, Danny would throw it in the air inside that warehouse and it would go straight to... in fact, it wouldn't work, because it would go all directions.

My figure addiction (though I don't have many) began when I bought.... I think it was my first Dengeki Moeoh that came with a freebie figure.

Anyways, I couldn't get inside a warehouse like that. Or even near one. I guess I'd be arrested for attempt burglary only for standing inside a 10Km radius or something... :P

I used to collect a bit when I was in college, but never got anything big since I didn't have much money... so eventually I gave it up. Recently I found your site and it reminded me "Hey! Unfortunately I'll probably have to slow down on this again until I get a better job, which should be soon hopefully...

I started collecting figures about 1991 with overpriced - nay, horrendously overpriced - vinyl kits! I bought some ready painted figures in late '90s but they weren't any sort of quality then - those Sega things in the bubble packs were rough, more like made up vinyl kits. Most of my figure collection then consisted of stuff built from resin kits. It was only since about 2001 that I've been impressed enough with the quality of assembled figures to buy them, indeed I've stopped making those infuriating resin kits because of them...

O_O if I was there i would have been so tempted to grab all of the Gundams, its like when you find a money on the floor and you know you would love to pocket it but decide that you should give it back the guy who dropped it and is now walking away. ^^
