G's Festival

My first time picking up G's Festival Comic and was rather pleased with the purchase ^^;
Initially thought that the mag was just another one of those telephone-book-thick manga filled with random stories - it is kinda but all the stories are from popular eroge.

This month features the gorgeous Erika Sendo from Fortune Arterial. Cant wait for the Kotobukiya figure of her to be released next month.

Has loads of nice 2D girlies, is 454 pages thick and costs 2,500 yen.

While the manga is filled with stories based on eroge, non of the content is ero apart from panchira and the occasional eye-grab.

Inside the box is also this huge 150 x 50cm "micro fiber towel" of Erika who has freshly stepped out of a shower. You would probably ruin it if you used it as a real towel.

Speaking of Eroge, in just about every Japanese otaku blog is news of a proposal by the democratic party to ban adult games and anime saying that "people who enjoy these forms of media have lost their sense of humanity and leads to killings of young girls." This is the lady who put forward the proposal.
In a response to this proposal, there has been a backlash of responses such as...
- Im an adult and play these games - does that make me twisted?
- Thats an insult to people who play and make those games
- So theres nothing wrong with adult videos? (3D girls)
- Is that based on scientific grounds?
- I'm a married woman with kids. I play these games...
- Whats the color of your blood?
What do you think about this proposal and do you have any opinions about people who play eroge or enjoy adult anime? I hear opinions that eroge and adult anime actually help reduce crime - what you think about this opinion?

I guess a quick answer to this would bill would be "Volstead Act". The Volstead Act didn't make the U.S. a more moral place or stop people from drinking. In many ways one could argue it caused more problems.
Politicians could really care less about what the problems. We know their motivation is to win votes.
I suppose I'm one of those thick headed individuals who refuse to believe that these things lead people to commit crime.
It's the same for me. I rarely play eroge games however, I do enjoy the 2D girls. Probably wouldn't read much of the manga but would like to have the goodies.
Hmm... towel might be microfiber on one side. Many of the new microfiber towels for glass are made that way.

Oh Dear! It seems that the UK isn't the only country with dim politicians!! We've had the same arguments put forward about rap music, games consoles, even field sports! Do these goody-goody types really believe that reading/watching fantasy tales will make Mr Average commit any crime they may have just read/viewed? I think not.
Those politicians who believe things like that must remember that they are there to give voice to the opinions of the people they represent. Perhaps their offices are not in the real world?

Games aren't going to make you commit a crime. For that matter neither will music. The game might keep you busy, but if you are the type who is going to to commit violent crimes the game isn't going to stop you.

Basically nothing.
And people have proposed and done similar stuff in Brazil (where I live).
We had a major discussion not long ago about doujinshi of DBZ characters with erotic content in the Internet.
They made a major fuss like it was something unconceivable, closed down some websites, and lots of other stuff.
Child abuse and prostitution in Brazil is on the loose, specially on northern states.
But it has absolutely nothing to do with lolicon and eroges. In northern states, the anime/manga culture isn't even that spread out.
It's about the police not making their part because they lack apparel and people, it's about how easy it is to find children on the streets, it's about politicians wasting time on stuff like the DBZ doujinshi case instead of really spending money to stop child prostitution.
It's a political maneuver to get the responsibility off their hands.
They don't want to spend more money on the issue, so they make up stuff like that to make people they are really doing something about it.
Much like what's happening with Games nowadays.

I don't really think it leads to more sinister stuff. Just like how the I believe violent games don't lead to more violence (and when you check the rate of young violence (in the US at least), it has gone down dramatically since the introduction of video games) sex and rape games most likely don't lead to more rape in real life. I've seen my share of sex games (some with underage loli's by Key) and I haven't gone around raping every loli in real life I set my eyes on.
tl:dr no, it doesn't lead to more crimes.

Nice... taking notes next time I find a G's Festival I'll buy it.
About the discussion on the underage anime girls ban... I posted a long comment on Kotaku, so to avoid rewriting everything, I'll just copy-paste it here. But summary, I think it's as stupid as trying to ban violent games because some people thing it's wrong.
(also, sorry for the aggressiveness, but there were lots of stupid comments before mine)
"Screw that petition. What's next? Banning graphic violence?
It doesn't matter if you like this or not, if you consider this tasteless or not. Because the next thing they ban could be something you like and most people don't.
This isn't justifiable. Just like banning games claiming they lead to violence without proof also isn't.
People have to think outside their own worlds on this one.
While you may not like eroges that depicts underage characters, some people do. In fact, if there's a petition to it, it means there's a market to it, meaning lots of people probably do.
And nothing proves such games are harmful, or that they lead to something else, no matter how disgusting, tasteless, or whatever you personally think it is.
Just like violent games. I mean, do people here realize that some parents and people sees violent games just as some here sees such erogames?
They think: "I don't like them, they are tasteless, I shure have no problem in banning them".
Violent games are much like the same. People assume they are harmful, they personally don't like them, so they think "screw the people who likes them, let's just ban it".
By allowing governments to forbid such things, we are allowing to further actions.
Like banning violence on cartoons, banning stories about rape and incest, banning gay and anal porn, bondage, tentacle rape, and so forth and so on. And this might not affect only games... they could go on to movies, books, and who knows what else.
What I mean is: Just because a majority of people don't like something, you can't just ban it.
We're moving backwards with stuff like these. I know all those are taboos, but people gotta see what's the real intent behind such actions.
This is also a way to say "see, where doing something about pedophiles". But with no prove that such games have anything to do with child abuse and other related crimes, it means nothing.
It's like tactics to avoid doing the right thing... which is thinking of better ways to prevent and arrest criminals."

I hate to say it, but there are people out there that play games and CAN get ideas from them. But in truth you can get ideas from anything. Books, internet, it doesn't matter you can get ideas anywhere. It's just games are high on the list for how many people play them. I don't see news about people getting hurt, killed because of a book. Not saying it didn't happen at "one" time, but I haven't seen it and I am sure a lot of people read books. I think you can't blame just one thing and I believe if someone did something bad it most likely would of happen even if they didn't play "that" game because they would of gotten the idea from somewhere else if not come up with it there selfs. I love games, I wish I can play more ero-games, but I like to read them as well [I am a story whore, sue me].

beside eroge game, there's still porn site, porn magz, how are they gonna do to them? banned it? riddiculous!
Taking a look at the japanese crime rate, and that it seems to be the only country producing larger amounts of painted pornography,
the only logical conclusion seems to be that those watching it are less likely to commit crimes... it might reduce birthrate though...
Wait, does anyone have reliable data on the spanish crime rate to compare it to the rest of europe?

I believe it reduces crime, because it allows people to enjoy their fantasies that they are unable to otherwise do in real life, i.e. rape a girl... like in a lot of hentai. It should keep the crime down especially the sexual ones. The sexual perverts that do it to little girls i doubt would actually play these games or watch these animes before commiting the crime, those perverts instead have probably lost their sense of rationality .

I am extremely against censureship of any kind. This being dirty words, dirty pictures/movies, and relevant to this topic, dirty game, etc. I don't believe that the presentation of ideas themselves are responsible for negative acts by individuals. Negative acts (such as rape, theft, murder, etc.), are the results of poor education. Not necessarily the SCHOOL version of education, but LIFE education. Starting with parents, then with friends and co-workers, etc. PEOPLE are responsible for negative acts. If the people with whom you interact with are not good, chances are the mindset inside you may cease to see "right vs. wrong" as clear cut or even important...
Anyway, censureship tries to hide/ignore issues without actually addressing them. Such things lead to overcompensation ("oh my gawd, her nipple showed for a second, the WHORE!", etc.), ignorance, and worse. So sign me up for any protest of an act of censureship. At the same time, sign me up for promoting education.

There really are some idiots in the world the only reason why people blame things like eroge games and violent games like GTA on the worlds problems is because they want to find something to blame for what happens around them, even though i would bet a million pounds if i had it :D that the exact same crimes would still happen even if they banned all forms of media. Also it generally seems to be the older generation that blames societys woes on games which go's to show they don't really understand what there talking about and have probably never seen and eroge or a violent game only what people have told them and when this current generation has grown up who do understand this form of media wont blame whats going on around them on games but will find what ever the new thing is that they dont understand to pass the blame onto, maybe virtual reality machines are something haha

As many people have already suggested here, I think eroge, video games etc. are being used as a scapegoat. They're detracting from the deeper and more difficult problems of modern society; many many issues which compound to create these nut-jobs and other social problems.
Part of the problem is that police simply don't have enough jurisdiction to take down organized crime rings - they may know exactly what these people are up to but simply don't posses the rights to wire-tap these buggers or whatever, no doubt there are crooks in the government acting as moles and slowing down the process...

I've played Doom at age 9. If you had read about the Columbine High School massacre, anti-videogame infidels claimed the two shooters, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, had used Doom as a sort of 'training simulator' before they initiate the shooting rampage. Funny, that considering all the shit I've been through in the 90's, I never had the urge to start going on a senseless rampage killing everyone I hate. I moved on to play Resident Evil 3 at age 12 and continue on playing more M-rated games. Nothing happens.
Played my first eroge at age 14. Never had the urge to commit lewd acts against women. Nothing happens.
Listened to Eminem at age 13. Plenty of songs about shooting people and choking your own wife. Nope, don't have the urge to do it. I feel totally normal.
Based on all of my experience above, I personally think television, videogames and/or music has no such powers at all to influence the person to commit violent acts. It's the mental state of the person that determines his or level of sanity, or when his or her self-control went haywire. How does one explain what influenced early serial killers like Jack the Ripper to commit murder? Videogames?

I understand the proposal a bit seeing that there are some eroges in which the players' main mission is basically to rape all the heroines (Virgin Roster is the one that I can remember but there are some others that I cant remember).
But there is also healthy (literally) eroge like Private Nurse. The story is that the main hero often falls ill for some reason and the heroines want to cure the main hero. As the heroines try to heal the main hero, lots of heart-warming events happen.. It's a really good eroge.
Coder
that sounds all so familiar.
when the legislation in switzerland passed new laws against child abuse, they decided child porn could be anything.
they make no difference in it being 3d or 2d, even though, at least as far as japanese 2d porn is concerned, it's almost guaranteed there's no child abuse involved.
while i strongly support the abolishment of abuse, putting 2d fans totally at the mercy of a judge's discretion (it's his decision what would be considered as child porn at what not) leaves a very, very bad aftertaste.
trying to fight such an imprecise law is also a run against windmills, considering the delicacy of the topic. it could even put you into trouble.
fortunately, pornography in general is accepted (or liked) by most people here, so i don't fear a political threat there. and i bet it's not so different in japan. 2d porn has a much wider audience there, too.

Well, I could be wrong, but some how I have the feeling that eroge help reduce possible sex crimes instead of the other way around.
To "enjoy" or "appreciate" eroge or any other adult stuff help many to "release" their pent-up desires or even frustrations ... and so "balances" off things.
Just like any other hobby, interest or past-time ... not everyone's cup of tea or everyone can enjoy or agree ... but what matters is that it can help the person doing it maintain some sort of equilibrium in his life. Satisfaction of some sort of needs mentally, emotionally or even spiritually :)
I also enjoy eroge ... but I appreciate BEAUTY even more. I get tremendous satisfaction from enjoying the beauty of my figurines ... much more satisfaction than any eroge or adult stuff. Looking and appreciating the beauty of a pretty woman, makes me very happy :)
btw, danny, nice towel. if i have one ... i would not use it too. heck, i will even wrap it up in plastic to make sure it stays "clean" ;)

I have to agree with many of the above comments, And this is pretty much the same as the "Higurashi" thingy, with a girl taking somekind of saw and hurt her dad (i cant remeber if he died) they later on got to know that Rena in Higurashi has used a hatchet (or what it is called) to hurt ppl. This is kinda stupid. Anime, manga,tv and eroges doesnt make people do things, It might even make the crime less, lets say that a person, that feels ike raping someone (first thing i came up with) gets an eroge where you rape girls, with this he might have his "rape" thoughts calmed down instead of going out and rape some random female on the streets. (okay, that sounded stupid but i hope you get my idea)
Well..thats pretty much what i think, to sum it up: "Eroges and anime etc doesn't make people do certain stuff"

I think it depends on the person. There are people who play eroges and keep their cool, it even reduces to commit such acts. On the other hand there are people who sadly get the wrong idea, so it isn't entirely wrong that eroges are at fault. However, these peoples make up only a very very small percentage and to blame eroges alone for that is absurd! There are many other factors leading to those crimes. Stopping them is almost impossible because there'll be always someone who will commit those acts. Baning eroges is like a small fart, no one cares so it's pointless, those crimes will still continue to exist.
Just wanted to state my opinion on this matter.

In the US, in particular, there are lots of... older folks, news companies, politicians and the like, who have the idea that video games (mainly violent ones) are making children and teenagers violent. There was a huge issue about the alien/human girl on girl love scene in the game 'Mass Effect' despite the fact that all nudity was covered, and it was 15 seconds long in a game that was maybe more than 100 hours long altogether. I think the older generation are just afraid of what's new - things they didn't grow up with as kids. When OUR generation of gamers and eroge fans grows up, they'll become the new politicians and they won't be afraid anymore. So, basically, I think the problem will sort itself out in a few years.

I agree whit you Danny, I don't think I lost my sense of humanity nor the killing thing. Basicly I think that proposal was just because somebody had a little to much free time. Okay, maybe it has a little truth in it, but it's really overdone. Eroge games are there for fun, and not for give ideas. Almost everybody can play those games, so I don't think it leads to more crimes.

And that politician looks like a mean piece of work. I watched plenty of Gundam, yo. Does that make me a war freak? I can't exactly argue on either side, but the question begs to be raised: how many people found eroge inadequate and went out onto the streets a-prowlin' and how many, after playing, found it enough to stay at home alone? What about 3D videos? If they were said to have shown effectiveness in preventing rape/causing a raise in rape cases, then what? Why were 3D videos necessary in the first place? Isn't hentai and said vids serving the same content, except in different means? Making a decision should encompass both sides of the argument and not only focus on one side of the same coin.

Of course, if she's implementing it for entirely different reasons then I have nothing to say >_>

We get those kinda things all the time here in the US... Jack Thompson against violence in videogames and all. -_- I don't think I need to say more; enough has been implied. And- i want her on my wall too.

different strokes for different folks. i think its ridiculous to ban eroge and all that good stuff for your dolphin. although it might be true in some cases of it driving people mad, its still not a real good reason to ban it. because what of the people who makes them? and *ahem* needs them?

eroges are great, that woman knows nothing

Hmmm... Looks like I skipped that post.
Let me do it short and simple. "People that lost their humanity"... Ahaha. Being human is not being exempt of flaws; and "leads to the killing of girls"... Boys are not spared? Just kidding there. So if we were to do/be as she says (and I'm sure there is a lot of people like that), there would be murderers/killers everywhere. Quite cuckoo she is...
She really needs to look at the reality and calm down (chill pill required for her). Certain politicians are sadly into their little world and need to open their eyes, minds and hearts to get closer to the ones they are intended to represent and protect.

nIce goodies huh Danny. Still i am amazed if they think that erog games lead to killings of young girls. If that is the case then what about anime that shows lofts of 2D girls and young ones at that. I say it is the person who does this horrible crimes.

Honestly? I'm going to school to make games, I don't want to deal with games being illegal, lol. Maybe I should make eroge games? Anyways, I think that in most cases, violent or perverted games actually let the average person blow off steam... and other things(take that whatever way you want, lol). Sure, there are some individuals who are generally already disturbed and may get ideas on the specifics of their actions from games, but they would have just gotten their ideas elsewhere anyways.

less crime coz ppl doing eroge have less free time

Most politicians "represent" a district which he|she and his|her political party's cronies have custom-drawn to ensure that only their party's candidate will win election from that district.
People with that much power are the ones who do not consider the ramifications of their actions.
These censorship laws are all 'window dressing'. They appear to attack the problem, but they do nothing to genuinely halt the reprehensible actions at which these so-called solutions are aimed.
It always comes down to numbers. The authorities will strive to report, "Today we confiscated #### 'illegal' manga and eroge, and arrested ## persons involved in their production, distribution, and sales."
You see what the snag is there.
*Quantity* is more important to the authorities than *quality*.
Since they cannot apprehend the persons involved who perpetrate the actions against which they rail, they need to 'show' that they're *cracking down* by arresting anybody and everybody who might have some tenuous connection to it.
Finally, not to alarm any other members here, who can state that the authorities might decide to go after the *customers* who obtain the content against which they rail? 3=(>
They do it in most other situations involving "contraband".

Dude, I think this chick has issues. Ergoe is a big industry! It employs lots of people, and is fun for lots of people. All these anti-porn/yaoi/hentai people are crazy in my book.

I'm using the towel as a real towel, but thankfully no damage spotted until now.
And the towel is nice, it doesn't get wet even I used it after shower.
Also, my friend say that micro fiber towel doesn't need to be washed. Is that true?
