Image Uploader

Took me ages to get round to it but its finally up - the image uploader. Members can finally upload images and soon videos too.

The screenshot below shows the new member widget on the top page. Each thumbnail represents the last post made and displays the category for that post.
Each post is known as a News Item. So that you dont get confused with News Items that I post, my News Item thumbnails are labeled "DC News" while member item thumbnails are labeled "Member News."
You can find all Member News in the tab that I also highlighted in the screenshot. Have a lookie at what members have been posting so far.

Below: And when you click through to see all posts you can see a new carousel menu - use the arrows at either side of the menu to scroll left or right to reveal more categories. The thumbnails in each category are automatically taken from the last post made in that category.
You will notice that the second thumbnail is "figurefm" and that when you click through you will see all posts tagged with "figurefm."
This is the new home for the figure.fm community. Due to the unexpected amount of clients requesting services of Mirai Inc, I have not had much time to participate or look after figure.fm. Now thats its on the dannychoo.com platform, I can spend more time with you talking about your figure shoots and Gunpla making.

Being on the dannychoo.com platform means faster uploads, continuous improvement of the user experience and interaction with more people seeing your Gunpla work or figure shoots. This will also mean more exposure for your blog too - just make sure you contribute to the community by posting the occasional figure news instead of just "more pics at my blog" ^^;

To deter trolls from doing what they do best in life, only members who have commented on dannychoo.com more than 25 times and have been registered for more than 2 weeks can use the uploader.
One thing that Trolls are not good at are posting comments which look genuine so are easily spotted 2.5 miles away - especially with features like the comment tracker. This is why I lowered the comment hurdle down from 50 to 25 - but members still need to be registered for more than 2 weeks to use the uploader.

An up n coming feature called "Nuke" will enable trusted members to zap a troll - this should hopefully convince trolls that wasting time building up trust and then be nuked within seconds after posting evil pictures is not good use of ones life.
Senior trusted members on the site will have a red button to push and when a few of these members push their buttons, trolls get nuked on the spot and the site goes in self defense mode for that troll.

If you are a member at figure.fm and do not meet these requirements, mail [support at dannychoo dot com] with your figure.fm *and* dannychoo.com username. To enable me to confirm that you are really who you say you are, stick something in the "Amazon assoc. tag" field in your edit profile page at figure.fm and let me know what the tag is - it can be anything and you don't need a real amazon tag.

Once I have confirmed that you are who you say you are, I will enable the uploader for you.

Below: When you click through to your profile page, you will see a few changes. In your profile box you will see a new menu with links to your News Items, Puchi Blurbs, Comments and Videos. If you click on "News Item", you will see a sub menu below that enabling you to view your News Items by category.

As with the last figure giveaway, future giveaways and prizes of figures, gundams and other goodies will be limited to members who actively participate in the community by using the uploader.

The new uploader tool means that we can not only share information via comments but by images too and will open up the "show us your room" pool soon.
I think I asked before but cant remember - do you want an eroge (hentai) CG category?

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

This item was posted in the category. You can see more of everything else or subscribe via RSS instead.

I love this new feature, but I fear adding loads of new images may take a toll on the server after a while.
Maybe that is why you have returned to one article per day? That is wise, certainly as you also gain by not overexerting yourself in searching new material (no not ero material in this context!) to post.

I love this notion of experience, though I fear some would put too many irrelevant comments to reach the count... And thus your "nuking" concept would enter the picture... It's very great coming from you.
It reminds me of when I had been appointed op in IRC, I was rather the one for Great Justice and did sweep trolls away a bit too well... I have wisen up over the years and since DC is quite the peaceful place right now (I still wonder if you do some background cleanup as in banning people covertly or not, Danny), I feel I nothing is to be done in terms of safety.

Rather than a nuke button, I think contacting the most trusted members via mail (or reserving a secret place for them to regroup, with password access and key identification) would work better.
In that they would discuss about what decision to take and unanimity would determine the outcome... You know, like an impartial jury.
The Nuke button is a bit too arbitrary in my opinion.

Well, well, this was a bit long, but I hope it will help you Danny.
I'll remain in the Tactics room if you seek my help. I'll always be ready to contribute to your cause Danny. *Salutes and walks away*

Ummm, wow, huge nonsense in one of my lines.
I meant that since DC has been peaceful of late, taking action in terms of upholding the law (RoboCop style) is relatively unnecessary right now.
Of course, we need to keep vigilance. An accident always arrived too soon.

While keeping the community safe is important, I think setting up admins maybe premature at this time. Seems Danny's intention is to empower the community rather than monitoring it.
We have an exceptional group, but we all know this site has it's fair share of racy material & colorful characters, and we love it that way. As few mems need to hit the nuke before dejection, I trust the community to use common sense rather than policing to keep the baddies at bay. Nothing kills the mood more than having to watch your words knowing big brother is peering over your shoulder.

Thanks FatB, this is what I have been saying in the past. We are luck to have an exceptional group of people here at DC.com. We most definitely don't need a totalitarian approach in any way. All that will do is make people uncomfortable and scare new people away.

I think what is important to keep in mind is what Danny is telling us. Allowing all of us to nuke people is a sign of trust. He knows we will not run amuck and nuke people we might not like. I'm sure he knows we will continue to do what we have always done. We will remember people who attack or say inappropriate things about others and keep an eye on them. When those individuals prove they can't and will not follow the rules...

Just thought I would trow this into the conversation...

Agreed. Fully agreed. Putting personal interests before the idea of a better community is a trap that countless ones fall in as well as a huge bias.

Really not sure what to make of the uploader, although the news contribution is a good idea since figure.fm was more geared towards showing off our own wares.

I will miss the closed community idea and the interface of figure.fm tho...

Guess this is just something everyone will just get used to over time.
I'll probably post one of my old works later when I have the time, just so I get used to the new interface.

Btw the current Dannychoo.com (when compared to the one three years ago for example) cannot go without an eroge section.
So even if I don't really care about an eroge CG category, I guess it is required (for the enjoyment of others, at least).

I was just browsing Member News and there is some really great stuff! Nice work everyone. Now we can give Danny help with content by posting items we see everyday.

A eroge (hentai) category is probably a good move. No one visiting can claim they didn't know what they where getting before clicking...

Hmm. I'm not sure what you mean by a eroge CG category.

This might sound rather blasphemous here but I'd actually vote against an eroge CG category, if it's only going to be uploaded pictures. There's plenty of sites out there for that, and since they're basically dedicated to such a function there's no way dc.com would really be able to surpass them. In that case, it'd be simpler and better to post the CGs somewhere else, and focus on the things that are already here when we're on this site.

...Unless we plan to discuss the heck out of them and recommend stuff. In which case I'm all for it. x_x"

You sure it's blasphemy? I rather think it is about freedom of speech.
Not everyone loves ero here and some prefer certain ways than others...
Your point is good also, but I guess it would be more about showing one's personal tastes than anything else... what do you think about it?

xP The blasphemy remark was a blatant exaggeration. I tend to do that. Hmm.

Personally? I like eroge CG as much as anyone else around here. If it's to show personal taste, I guess that could be interesting. My greatest concern would be a whole flood of CGs suddenly being uploaded, with the rest of the sections or articles possibly buried in the aftermath.
