You Got Mail

When I've been offline for more than a few hours, the first thing I need to do is check mail. And before I know it - I've been sitting there in armor for a few hours ^^;
Getting the armor off is usually the first thing I want to do but now keep it on to stay warm while the room heats up in this chilly season.
Many moons ago, I started to use Outlook Express on Windows to manage my mail.
I then switched to having my mail managed online at http://fastmail.fm/ - served me well for any years but it looks like they gave up trying to improve the service when gmail came along.
Gmail recently started to support IMAP so I managed to export all previous mails to my gmail account which I currently use - currently used up 3599MB.
Used Mail.app on the Mac for a while but decided to manage all my mail online after a while - restoring and backing up mail on the laptop is a pain as each mail is saved as a single file.
What mail account do you have and do you prefer to manage your mail online or offline on your machine? How long do you spend going through/responding to mails each day?
Most of my day was taken up by mails/meetings when at Amazon and Microsoft.
If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.
If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

Changed to Gmail from Hotmail 1st of last year I think. I hope only that the Gmail accounts are more secure as I use them for online multiplayer game accounts mostly and only.

Got to thinking, I don't use any type of mail app. on computer. Old days Outlook express was used by me often then basically it became 'OutLook Express Virus Installer by Microsoft'. So now I have a deal that even deletes the Windows (live) Mail for Vista. I don't even allow any windows type mail app. on my computers. (don't try that at home if you don't know computers). I love Gmail.

My main is a gmail account. However as I can't have a personal email for work, that happens to be the only reason why I would have to use Outlook. I used to have a hotmail account and in the old days I had an excite account, but since excite website doesn't like firefox, well it was bye bye excite.

I just seem to like what they have to offer better. On my Mac I've switched to Mac Mail, on the PC I use Outlook.

My military account requires me to use Outlook Express. For personal e-mail, I like Hotmail. I've used them since the mid-90s. ^_^
I also remember an e-mail service called, "Hotmale," back in the 90s. Had a few friends accidentally sign-up for that and wonder why they kept getting strange e-mails for "service." ^o^

Luckly, my iPhone 3G can manage the Yahoo! and 3 Gmail accounts I have (living in the US, its as close as a high class phone as it gets, there are better ones in Japan ^_^). My personal favorite e-mail I get is a daily one (about 5:00 P.M. EST), my daily dose of Danny Choo. I've been using the hotmail for over 10 years and then I think they changed something on free account where it became somewhat hassel. I think it happened so that people will switch to their yearly paying account so it irked me somewhat. So I switched to gmail and been pretty happy with the result.
Gmail is also pretty cool since I can invite myself to get additional accounts ^^;

I have multiple email accounts that I look over; my main gmail, my University email, my work email and my msn email. Over time I eventually got to the point to accessing all but my msn account from mail.app and it has worked out well and quickened my flow through the many important emails I get along with the junk. I barely check my msn now because I need pro to use that in any other program and that is too much trouble. Anyone who knows me knows the email I actually use anyways.
Usually spend an hour in the morning going through my emails and my rss feeds, conveniently kept in the same place, mail.app. At the moment, I can't see anything else major coming along to stop me using it. with mobileme and my iphone, everything is way too perfect even on the go.

I used to use my domain account as my primary but got paranoid or sick of spam when using it too much publicly. Plus I always worry that I might loose my domain for some odd reason one day. And it's not as easy checking my domain emails since some servers block the cpanel / mail server. So now gmail is now my primary.
My domain email remains as my business / professional emails only. And I still use my hotmail and yahoo mail addresses to sign up for forums or registers I'm not too sure about.

I really don't have a primary mail account right now. Which account address I give to others depends on the situation. However, the majority of my mail finds its way to my IMAP accounts so you could say Gmail and MobileMe are my primary accounts.
Yes, when I'm away for a while it takes me a good hour to catch up with mail. I don't always get large segments of time to handle mail. It can take me all morning to respond to what is in my inboxes.
I using Mail.app right now along with MailSteward http://www.mailsteward.com/ for archiving important items. I was using Outlook before I moved everything to the Mac about 2 or 3 years ago. I've been using gmail since the beginning of time it seems like! 5 years! Wow time goes by so quickly... and yet it's still in beta lol!
I can't be arsed to download, backup, and organize all my email. I'm currently using 1152 MB of space, that would be a headache to manage on the desktop. Gmail is easy, simple, reliable, and I can access all of it anywhere with an internet connection.
I paint F/A-18C's
That's why I started using it actually, anywhere with internet. Since I was in the Navy at the time, I needed to check it in Malaysia, Australia, Guam and Thailand all in one year. Also I was able to set it up to forward a copy of it all to my military account (sans pictures and attachments) seeing as we get no internet on the boat. (well we do, but it was about 1/20 the speed of dialup!)

I have my own mail server running Postfix for SMTP and Dovecot for IMAP/POP, and I access it with Mail.app on OS X (I use Kmail on Linux and Thunderbird on Windows). I have huge numbers of messages, and it's true they're all in separate files, but with incremental backups it's never been a problem (and the management is SO much easier if you ever have a problem that can't be solved in the client). Mail.app also has an option to not store messages locally, but I make so much use of its Spotlight-like search function that I prefer to keep my mail client-side.
I have my own mail server because I needed IMAP before it was widely available on third-party services, because it's my nature as an admin to want control and so I can keep my skills sharp. If I had to do it over again from only a productivity standpoint, though, I would just use Google to manage my mail and access it with a desktop IMAP client as I do now.

That's pretty nice. I actually want to host a mailserver myself, but consider the option as completely unfeasible since my internet connection is quite unreliable. (More like, as far as I can tell my router freezes due to reasons I cannot identify on occasion. Plus I sometimes get disconnections for several hours at night, due to ISP maintenance.)
If an important email got lost due to my connection being down for an extended period when it ain't supposed to, I'd have a screaming fit.

I use a GMail powered domain at MyHyrule.net, managed through thunderbird. I used to use yahoo, but I became fed up with the bloat.
I wouldn't touch hotmail with a barge pole though. the spam I used to get still gives me nightmares

2 for ebay, amazon, buying figures xD, phonebills and 1 Email for Junk and so on.
Sometimes there are up to 20 Junkmails on the last Adress. But my Father is more luckier. He´s getting every day more than 100 Junk/Spammails. Takes more time to delete this stuff then writing to his friends.

Although I have quite a few mail accounts of all kinds, my prime address is one I have had for over a decade with my original local ISP. I suppose that is rather unusual.

As main e-mail account I use the pop e-mail account that comes with my ISP package, as mail client I've been using Thunderbird for several years now. First used Outlook but switched to Thunderbird at the same time I switched from IE to Firefox.
(Though I have an older Yahoo! address I now only use for forum and game subscriptions and other things that often come with tons of spam. Do have GMail too, maybe I should switch to it for security, since now I do need to make a backup of my mailfile every x times.)

I use gmail now for everything. I still have my email from my 3 old AOL accounts, my own domain and a few other spots like from MobileMe but all are synced into gmail. I'm currently stuck in the email trap...I'm on for hours either answering fan mail about my site or questions about my anime store or processing orders, etc @_@

I have seven e-mail addresses in use, all of which, except one, are managed through Thunderbird, via IMAP. I was suprised that all but one of the free email services I use both support IMAP and SSL transfers.
Three of them are used for typical domain related junk. (With the aliases it's seriously more.)
One is an outdated full-of-spam one that I only use for the occasional registration at times. This is the POP3, unencrypted one, because the free service is made of fail. (Srsly. They want like five bucks a month for IMAP support and some unneeded crap.)
One is one of the boxes I got via my ISP. (Only using one right now. And 'renting' a second one to my dad.) This one has my real name in the address, and is the one I use for 'serious business'. As in anything involving money (except adsense), school, and work.
Two are gmail boxes. One contains my nick, and is used with people I know online, and want to recieve mail from, and that I registered in some places with. Generally stuff I want to read. The other is used when I want someone to contact me, but trust them about as far as I can throw them.
I've been too lazy to do so up to this point, but I probably should set up PGP keys for each of them. Currently I only encrypt the mails from two of the addresses whereever I can. Nyah, google, you can't read my mail. :3

I have both yahoo and gmail. Gmail is my work related email while the other one is personal. I used to check my emails using a client but got tired after a while. it takes about 1-2hours daily for me to check/clean my mail.

i used to have hotmail, but i changed to linux/using the PS3 browser and it was working right on either of them, so i changed to Gmail and i absolutly love it. Its nice just getting up in the morning, turning on my ps3 and checking my emails, then having a quick game of something before going to work :)

As far as I can remember:
Outlook -> Yahoo -> Hotmail -> Foxmail -> Gmail
Gmail is my current and the one I used the most so far, but I did use Foxmail for a long time.
Foxmail is a chinese version of Outlook Express, and I started using RSS with it. It was very practical and light... you read RSS entries just like mails, in the exact same interface... it worked offline, and would download the messages to your PC and resynch later.
Problem is that it was kinda buggy, several times it would download the same entry several times over, and the english support ended at some version... dunno if it even exists anymore.

I used to work at a game developing company as Game Manager and read about 100-300 emails every day. (Although I only answered some of them and delegated the ones which I did not want to answer to the other staff :) )
At work I always use some mail client like Thunderbird or Outlook (I prefer Thunderbird). For my own business I use a web mail for my own domain. And my personal email addresses are handled by gmail, which I think work super duper!

Gmail FTW. I remembered the time when you had to get an invite in order to sign up for a new GMail account. Took me quite an effort in finding one at that time ^^. Eventually got it from one of my friends.
I prefer to read my mails online from the webmail itself.
I do use Hotmail too although its mainly for IM purposes. Too much spam in that e-mail account. Don't know how it all ended up being directed there.
I have no spam in for my GMail account and that's what I like about it xD

I used to hate Mail.app, but now that's usually what I use.
Also, I recently changed to MobileMe, so I'm mostly using my iPhone and Mail.app to handle emails.
