Looks like there is not much longer to wait until the second season of Haruhi airs.
Question - anybody here not seen the series yet?

According to Newtype, the long awaited new season of Haruhi Suzumiya is scheduled to premiere in April.

Earlier this year, a newspaper announcement announcing an announcement about the upcoming series of Haruhi was announced. Only with Newtype's official announcement do fans and followers of Haruhi have a date to look forward to.

Hints of a second season have been floated around in magazines and on the web - including the franchise's official website - since 2007. Kyoto Animation soon after announced that plans for a second season - a continuation of the first season - were scrapped in favor of an "all new" season featuring a different take to Haruhi. The story will continue to follow from the original material of the light novels, presumably a look at Haruhi prior to her entering high school along with other adventures and mishaps of the SOS Brigade.

i suppose season 1 finished up nicely and they didnt really need to do a continuation. so it makes sense that they just decided to do a whole new take on things. hope it works out well

  There was an article up in Newtype sometime last year that addressed that issue. Basically they said it was going to be "hard" to do a second season. If that pertains to story material or the fact that some of their staff who worked on the first season had left the company is up in the air.
  
  They did leave the first season on a bit of a cliff. It screamed second season...at least to me.

    I agree. The first season felt very unfinished to me. Like they just ended it with no real conclusion to anything, and way too many unanswered questions.

Different take or not, I can't really get myself excited over this. It's been too long, in the sense that they've tried to hype and milk money out of it. Yes, some remakes old old classics from decades ago have worked, but for me this is different. I've been too fed up with KyoAni's little hints and teases.

I'll watch it. But with a much more critical eye, and with much less enthusiasm than I would have if it came out earlier. This sudden announcement ("It's out in two months!") rather that a long buildup ("It'll be out next autumn!") seems like an obvious PR stunt. It's sort of sad, that the strength of the Haruhi franchise has weakened to the point that they need to do this sort of thing.

It's still a big title though, no denying that.

This worries me immensely. Vanishment is probably the best main sequence book in the series, and most of the best sidestories have yet to be covered. If it's not going to be a sequal, that counts out Vanishment and at the very least, Snowy Mountain Syndrome and Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody (For those who only watch the anime, Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody is THE SINGLE MOST important event in the Haruhi universe)

  Indeed, there's a lot of good stories left in the novels not to mention the introduction of new characters along the way with which the story gets a lot more complex. But could all that be translated well into an anime series without getting too convoluted?

Well, it's about time. So long ago now that season 1 aired, it's actually pretty amazing how enduring it has been for most (heck there's still new haruhi figures coming out to this day). While I thought season 1 was excellent, my excitement and hope for a season 2 have been steadily worn away and now years later, I find myself not too enthused. I will certainly watch it and hope for it to be great, yet to me, I think part of what made haruhi so great was how different it was in style and feel to every other anime before it (primarily due to highly cynical monologue's of Kyon). After seeing Kanon with a very Kyon like main character and other Kyoto Animation shows (all of which I've enjoyed greatly mind you) I can't help but feel that, while it will no doubt be a very enjoyable show, it won't have the same "WOW!!" impact as series one by a long shot.

After seeing episode 00 (the film that they made for the school festival I almost did not want to watch the rest of it) After getting past it I go into the story and it was cool series that deals with the everday life and the desire to jsut break out of the bubble.

honestly... Suzumiya Haruhi no Yūutsu had not a good story
the characters are cute and interesting, bui the story is just not good.
so I'm not sure if season 2 will be a success. you cant catch viewers twice with the same aspect
it's the reason why lucky star is popular, or even azumanga daioh
you can only continue something if there was something you could continue with ^^'

In April? This April? That is awesome. I thought it was supposed to come in Fall.
I am really looking forward to Spring season. Haruhi 2, Hayate no Gotoku 2, Tsubasa and xxxHOLiC OVAs, Tears to Tiara, and other series, it should be quite good season. I do not know what I will watch yet, but the series and OVAs I named will definitely be on my watch list.

Second season of Haruhi will show us what happened before she entered the high school? That is great, it means she will have long hair, doesn't it? I prefer her with long hair. I wish there would be a long hair version Haruhi figure after the series, and sculpted by GSC, Max Factory, or Alter.

Dam, false hope! Read it over at ANN, that its not the new series starting in April, its just that the rebroadcast of season 1 will start on april. So in other words, reruns!

I wasn't going to watch the first season, but I wanted to see what all the hype was.

Well that's pretty odd. I can't understand why exactly they'd be attempting to lure people in only to sucker punch them like that. From a marketing perspective it's just making your customers hate you... can't see why they'd do it.

I dont get the point of rerun. Or rather making such a boom around it, unless they gonna add some bonus episodes or atleast scenes. Why to repeat whole 1st season when there are no changes? ^^;

KyoAnim sure takes their time to release 2nd series but I dont care. If they can turn all that time in to quality ^^
