Been reading this book lately which I picked up in Seoul back when the film Wonderful Days (also known in the US as Sky Blue) came out many moons ago. The book is the extended version of the film. Thought I would talk about it after stumbling on the trailer below.
Earth is surrounded by a could of nuclear dust and pollution as a result of many wars. Theres no vegetation or clean water to consume. Many of the human race become deformed due to the radiation.

A group of scientists in a last desperate attempt to save wo/man kind build a biological structure called Ecoban that feeds off the pollution. The structure grows into a huge city with rooms, floors, elevators and an environment where humans can live safely and cleanly enclosing them in from the pollution outside.

However, there are some who are on the outside of Ecoban who are living among the remains of planet earth. Folks inside Ecoban want to keep the folks on the outside just where they are.

Mother earth finds a way and she starts to heal itself after many years of a polluted atmosphere. This is bad news for Ecoban as it needs pollution to be able to sustain itself and the huge population inside.
There is another reason why this is bad news. The leaders governing Ecoban decide that the atmosphere must remain polluted in order for them to keep their reign over the "dirty" folk on the outside.

The governors at Ecoban have a device that continues to pollute the earths atmosphere which creates a constant dark cloud hiding the sun.

The main hero-type of the story called Suha is quite miffed about the situation - hes on the outside and knows what those evil folks at Ecoban are up to and sets out to put a stop to the dastardly shenanigans....

The high quality CG, animation and music is most atmospheric and captures a futuristic tale of post nuclear earth. I really liked the concept of a city that was initially built to feed off the nuclear pollution that engulfed the earth.

The novel that I picked up goes into much more detail about how Ecoban was built etc etc - not only an excellent read but its helping keep my Korean language ability in shape - kind of ^^;

Was so excited about the release of the film at the time that I went to Korea just to see it ^^; A recommended watch if you have the time.

Some screenshots below which I saved from the official site (which doesn't exist any more) and the whole film picked up from YouTube below that - I do recommend that you see a better quality version though.

And the entire film below. I've only seen the Korean version but the English dub sounds quite decent.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

    Looks great but I might not watch it. The art's a bit off for me, like the size of the upper eyes and their overall impression - somewhat different from what I encounter in Japanese animations, and that's a big turn off for me. ^^

    I saw this years ago, and while i found the CG, animation and design to be very impressive, i found the characters, plot, ending and overall film a bit 'meh'.

    To be honest, there has been loads of really nice looking anime films that fall short, such as paprika, millennium actress, steamboy and the place promised in our early days. The girl who leapt through time was the last truly excellent 'film' i saw - despite the fact it didnt look as amazing as the others.

    Before the movie came out, there was a big hype surrounding it but after it's release, it flopped. The movie flopped so horribly that they said this movie alone dealt a heavy blow to Korean Animation industry.

    I believe the biggest problem it had was that it tried to be too big of a blockbuster movie but forgot the essential point such as good story line. And so now there was no other movie like this ever come out again in Korea.

    seems very very interesting, since the story is kinda connected to the possible future of earth, and there are many issues addressed there. Judging from the trailer, it reminds me of blame! and fullmetal alchemist somehow. A must watch for sure, gonna wait till i find a high quality one

    From the trialer(s) it looked awesome and sounded awesome. If I can find a copy I will definitely watch! Unfortuately seems like the plot is lacking, but can't have everything all of the time I guess. Kinda reminds me of the Animatrix. Some of it was pretty abstract for the animation, but at least it was derived from a hell of a good story line.

    Wonderful days was something I was looking forward to from all the promotional pictures and the poster. I was impressed by the visual effects of the movie but didn't like the story that much. And one big disappointment was character design, which looked nothing like the poster or illustrations ;;
    Hopefully, Korea's animation industry can improve from this experience and make something better.
