Throw the Groom

Q: What happens when a man marries a woman from the Niigata prefecture?
A: He gets thrown off a cliff.
A news report about the Mukonage (groom throwing) festival that took place in Niigata on the 15th:
Recently married men were chucked over a cliff onto a snow embankment to pray for good luck in their marriage.

Ummm, okay, no. No tossing off of cliffs for me. Besides, they would need at least 10 Assault 'Mechs to toss me, and I think the wedding guests would get squished.

-_- *gets tossed into snow hitting groin on a rock on the way down* well this marriage got off to a rocky start.. was this invented by the girls father in hopes the groom gets hurt on the way down? i can see it now... "friends: hey how do we celebrate Danny's wedding!?" "Father of bride: throw him off a cliff? -_-" "Friends: that's a great idea!" "Father of bride: really?... *grins and starts laughing triumphantly" "Friends: yeah we will toss him off a small cliff into a mound of snow!" "Father of bride: ... oh.. yeah.. small cliff... snow mound... (curses foiled again!)"
