I'd rather just buy a computer without a contract.

That would be a good deal depending on the model of the laptop and total cost with the contract. Is the price range for the internet connection per month or per year?

If I was living in Japan, it wouldn't be important for me to pay an internet attached contract to the purchase of a laptop since the speed of connection in japon is so fast that it would be an excellent investment.

Of course, that's not the same story in my country... 4mb... Blegh!

It would be very useful to have a netbook ^_^.

That's still not too bad, especially in the situation as you mentioned, students that need a laptop and the connection. I pay about $55 for my 10/1.5 mbs cable a month. (thats about 5,000 yen a month) and I am sure the supplied internet is much faster than what I got. So I would find that to be an ideal situation.

the whole buy something at a cheap but with a catch reminds me of the days when I use work for a cellphone store.

for students studying for over 2 years, it might be a good deal. use the laptop if it's strong. sell it cheap for pocket money if it's ancient model

That is a pretty good idea for students actually... 100 yen.... so little lol. And the payments, well student grants and loads would cover the cost, in the UK at least.

Sounds just like the $0 phones from providers. The catch, 3 year contracts that you can't get out of. It might be good if you're going to be a long term user but in the middle of the deal, there will probably be a much better deal. Besides, the plans and contracts in Toronto aren't all that great anyway.

It must really have word processor specs... I'm down with that. Though, I'm pretty sure I'd end up shelling out for a graphics card or something, so I might as well buy a packaged machine.

How much is the plan cost overall?

This is just like all those ads over here offering "free" PS3s, Wiis and laptops. You might as well go pick something you actually like from a store that offers an instalment payment plan. You end up paying interest but it's a good option when you need something but can't afford to pay the lump sum.

Sure hope that the internet connection is fast enough. 6000yen sure is expensive.

Here in the philippines there was once a promo where you get a free laptop if you subscribe for internet service for two years :).. I don't know if it's still ongoing, since I'm not looking for a connection anymore hehe, what I do know that is always there, is the free cellphones if you sign for a contract to be their subscriber for two years.

In thee 2 years you pay off the laptop itll be out of date =/ but I guess 100 yen is good deal somewhat.

hm well it might be worth it depending on the person...I had a friend who got a free ipod though she had to apply to a whole lot of other stuff and said it was worth it...

I guess this is similar to the mobile phone deals in Canada. You get the free phone (or pay a lower price), but you're stuck with a 2-year or 3-year contract.

Buy a phone cheap or even free, but lock yourself into a contract for 2-3 years

Not a bad deal... But I think that netbook + jisaku PC is a better combo.

I have not seen these anywhere here. Lots on sale for $300 (US) from lots of shopping malls though.

Optus had a laptop/broadband bundle deal a while back, haven't seen mention of it again, lol. The contract deals are not so bad, you certainly couldn't get something like that over here [that I'm aware of so far]. We pay au$70 a month just for the internet, getting a laptop for free would be a very nice bonus~

Never bothered to read the conditions, but seeing those 100yen laptops. I thought they were like some sorta competition which costs 100yen to apply.

I've seen similar method where they offered XBox 360 or Nintendo Wii. I guess it's pretty good idea for the people who need the labtop right away.

That's not a bad deal, considering that it's still $100 if you take out a 3g contract with AT&T for a 3g netbook. Or something like that. 100 yen is Bargain! Unless the yen's gotten much stronger than I last checked.

They sorta had that here one time... Sign up for internet for a couple of years and get free laptop or desktop pc. I signed up with the same company a few years before this deal and all I got was a webcam...

That's a big catch if you ask me. Paying that amount and you cannot terminate it after 2 years of contract the student who brought it end up paying more the he/she ask for.

2000 yen per month for a practically free laptop, not bad in my opinion. Over here we had a similar promotion of the company XS4All who gave away free Wii's for a while with their new long-time contracts.

Its rather common for teleco to set plans like these. In singapore there is once a promotion giving free mac book for a 2yr contract S$88/mth

dunno what's the exchange rate is like, but packaging freebies with internet plans is almost certainly a given. I would be appalled to find one that doesn't come with anything!

There are the same offers in Germany: 1€ for the notebook and 2 years of ~13€/month. It could be not so bad.

I'm currently subscribing Singnet with 2 years contract for about S$40 = ¥2420 per month for 3Mbps Unlimited Broadband.

We have same kind of "cheep" devices (mobiles and laptops) here too. And in the worst case scenario the internet connection is almost unusable where you live because of too big user base:( But you can't stop the contract or you'll have to pay the full price.

Yea, there is this kind of stuff everywhere. But I rather have that than having no deals at all. Assuming the subscription price is reasonable, it might actually turn to a good deal. And in my area, there is only one provider anyways, so it is pretty much a monopoly. Might as well get something out of it.

As long as the computers decent and the net connection rocks, thats 2,000 yen well spent. ^_^

Well its a good deal if you want Laptop + Internet right now, but dont have the money. But then you have that stupid contract. Practical example for the phrase - "two sides of the same coin" :)

Personally id be happy with the contract if the internet has uncapped downloads and a decent speed id be a very happy man indeed

I think some US retailers were doing similar. Usually required a one year or two year commitment with MSN or AOL, I think. I haven't seen any "deals" like that in at least three years (or longer).

it just like my DSL modem buying= 4000 yen or using with 1 year contract= 0 yen, with condition if you stop, modem is recall back to provider. but coz it free it take long..... time before they call back to you..
