Acekard 2 DSI

Mufufufu. Finally get to play homebrew games with the AceKard 2 on the DSi. Amazonian comrade is staying over and came via the peoples republic - he nabbed one before he came to Japan.

The Acekard does not work out of the box and you need to download the system software and save it on a micro SD card (which is not included) before it will work.

As you can see from the screenshot, the Acekard 2 will read games from the micro SD card or from the SD card slot in the DSi. Have not yet tried out Moonshell or other media applications.

Unlike all other cards, the DSi will recognize the Acekard straight away. If you are making the switch over from R4, all you have to do is rename your save files to all lower case as follows and it should work.

some_homebrew_game.SAV > some_homebrew_game.nds.sav

I would advise to turn off wifi functionality as Nintendo made it clear that they will download patches without your permission which would render devices like the Acekard unusable.

Even though the DSi screen is just a bit bigger than the NDS, it feels odd playing the NDS after gaming on the DSi for a while.

Review of the new model DSi here desu.

    Yesss! Cards for the DSi.
I dont know whether I should buy a DS lite now (with an R4) or wait for a DSi...and get one of these cards. Is the DSi that much better that I should spend 100+ dollars more?

I believe the DSi will cost $180, when it comes out in the U.S. The last time I checked on the price of the Acekard, it was around $45.

I personally can live with my NDS and r4ds.

It's kinda expensive. ^^; I'm still thinking about it though, because then I'd install some ______ on it so I can load up the micro sd with some _______ and then I'd just go to town with some old school gaming. ^^; But still, it was just too expensive... :P

I think it's more like patching the DSi system so the Acekard won't work and not bricking the flashcards, although I don't really understand the term bricking ^^; So I wonder if you can then download a patch for the Acekard to get it working again XD

Doesn't break it, it's just that if you connect to the internet with the dsi, nintendo might install some firmware updates that make the acekard incompatible with it.

I am not sure what homebrew is really for but i know it's also available for PSP. I tried adding emulators to my PSP but i had a lot of trouble adding new firmware, so i gave up.

My only alternative so i'm able to enjoy classic SNES gaming is by getting a DS, not a DSi. I'm not interested in a Wii either.

Nintendo did major busts in Japan stores to withdraw such devices from the market.. but what really happened was that Nintendo actions ended up promoting the device.

Tons of such devices where sold right after Nintendo announced they would take legal actions to prevent it.

Nintendo also only took action against R4 cards, and there are tons of other "brands" out there.

If I'm not mistaken, it's kinda of a grey market. While it was ruled illegal, truth is that the cards can also be used to promote homebrew apps, which are not illegal per se.

About the same as installing a homebrew firmware to a PSP.

It's what they call the grey market.

I for one, understand that Nintendo and Sony don't really like those things... but the fact that lots of people I know (actually, just about every gamer I know) only bought PSPs and DSs BECAUSE they could "hack" it also remains true.

So what those big companies do is officially complain and take legal actions against homebrew cards and stuff like that... but they are not stupid.
They know that hardware sales are also highly sucessful due to such devices.

In Brazil, for instance, the main reason why Nintendo's GameCube was a total failure while Playstation 2 still sells like hotcakes today is piracy.

DS piracy is out of control so I can understand why Nintendo is clamping down on these things. As someone who has worked in game development for a long time there is absolutely no excuse to steal games. It's morally bankrupt and if you knew what a struggle it was for most developers to stay in business you might think differently.

As for hand held gaming in general, I find myself just using my iPhone for portable gaming now. The quality of the games is rapidly rising (I'm currently addicted to 'EDGE') , they're incredibly cheap to buy (usually less than £5), and the iPhone itself is so tiny and light weight as to make the DS and PSP look like relics from a different decade.

Many have said this year will be the year of the iPhone game, and I can really see that happening. Already Square-Enix and Konami are testing the waters...

OMG. I so want. I wanted to buy a NDS Lite but thought since I got a NDS Phat i am content enough. I thought Nintendo would release a new NDS and now here it is. I wonder how much it will cost in the UK. Where can I get a Acekard 2 DSI online? Usually a DS Lite costs £100 in the UK. Is the gaming any different? I'm content with my consoles, 5 Gameboys, 1 Gameboy Advance, DS Phat, PSP 2000 with homebrew and M33 Firmware for Final Fantasy, SNES, PSX, PS2, PC, Wii. :D Content enough and I hardly play any games any more. Too busy programming java and designing. The only game I play on the DS now is Professor Layton. Its a good game. I love puzzle games that make you think like that. I have a M3 movie player for my DS and Passcard have to update the firmware every so often. Do you have to do that with this Acekard?

I hope you use the same mentality in your other activities, and steal all movies, music, food, cars, and money. I mean why pay for anything when you can just steal it?

If you can't afford something you have no right to have it. It's that simple. It's not a difficult concept. Or did you skip learning morals when you were growing up?

So that makes it okay to steal? Hell I'd love a Ferrari, so according to you I should just go and steal one. Ferrari have loads of money, they'll never miss it. And while I'm at it I'll steal your wallet too.
