A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Last week was the first time that I ventured out on my own in Vader gear.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

The helmet is heavy and the lenses steam up in no time - not much fun ^^;
Went by train and later met up with Hector in Shibuya to shoot Dance Vader.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Was difficult to do much shooting with everybody whipping out their mobiles.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Being mobbed.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

On the move again. A Tokyo underground poster.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Fauna follows me to the living room sometimes.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Playing with a friends GR. Many call this the king of compact digital cameras. Have yet to use it myself so don't know.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

At the Google offices.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Really small bike.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Waiting for a train.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Going to the bank.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Meeting in Meguro.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Exploring the Fudomae area for offices.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

The limousine bus that takes you from Narita airport to central Tokyo parked outside the Columbia Music offices.
I took this once and will never take it again - took 3 hours to get from the airport.
I usually take the Skyliner train to and from the airport - comfortable seats and faster than the Narita Express (and cheaper).

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

A poster on the Tokyo metro of Shibuya many moons ago. Love seeing retro pics like this.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

This is what ticket machines used to look like on the Tokyo Metro.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

And this is what they look like now.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Waiting for another train.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

A Japanese version of Nasi Goreng. Tasted nice but not much like the Nasi Goreng in Malaysia or Singapore.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Meeting at Yoyogi Uehara.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Moe girl outside a pachinko parlor.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Grabbing some Mos Burger.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Today its seafood rice burger - has rice instead of bread.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Some folks getting some Yakitori.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Spent a good few hours last week studying data structures, working on UI and programming.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Shita Machi Tokyo.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Love how citizens here pile up rubbish for collection so neatly.

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Yes I do eat at home sometimes ^^;
With the current schedule of meetings with clients etc, eating out is unavoidable.

Didn't manage to go out for dinner yesterday but will do so in the evening. Spending the day programming before I leave. How are you spending your Christmas?

A week in Tokyo 5 title=

Modifying the Vader helmet a bit.

If everyone would like to know what their christmas gift from me is, just solve this riddle! Now, back to wrapping presents, and acting retarded with the gf.

    Riddle:
Any kid the age of five can figure this out....

What is greater than any deity, and more evil than Satan?
Rich men need it, very poor men have it,
If you eat too much of it, you will die.

    Enjoy your presents!

I am at home with friends and family (3d) this Christmas. I'm not to thrilled about it and I would rather be alone back at the University or with my roommate. Christmas is kind of ruined for me- something about an arguement yesterday that made me upset so I will be keeping a gift that I made (it originally wasnt this persons gift anyways).

Maybe it is me adjusting to being on my own- but for some reason I havn't been happy very lately. I prefer to stick around campus and hang out there- despite having few friends there. Now if I could only transform this independence and live the rest of my life having fun! =). I think that is coming very shortly.

I will probably hang out all day playing Super Mario Galaxy and Call of Duty 3. My laptop died and is acting up again so we may need to send it back in; it seems like it is 1 in those 1,000,000 flukes on the production line: in my 13 years of computer experience I've never had the problem and no one on any end, including myself can figure out the problem. I may also play Battlefield 2 (just discovered the joys of it- Ill write a review in the coming weeks on my blog if interested) and have some fun with that.

    Merry Christmas, Danny! ^__^

Danny, just wondering, do you ever communicate verbally with anyone while you're in your Darth Vader or Stormtrooper suit? And if you do (in Japanese?), do you put on a deeper voice??

I was actually looking at reviews of the Ricoh GRII on dpreview.com (no full review yet last I was there) just the other day. Thinking about getting either a GR or an entry model digital SLR with a decent lense.

The retro pics look cool! How long has that dog statue in Shibuya been there? Nevermind, I should just wiki it.

I love nasi goreng! It's one of my favourites. Never been to a Mos Burger, interesting.

Spent Christmas lunch with my gf and her family at their place and just had dinner with my family at a local cafe restaurant. Hope everyone have a safe and fantastic Christmas!!

I'd be spending Xmas alone, but this time I decided to travel with my mom on her usual trip to her hometown (12 hour trip by bus).

It's kinda hard. A very small city (less than 6000 inhabitants). I'm spending 10 days here... they finally had an upgrade from dial-up, but the speed remains almost the same.

Computer is slow and old, and there's absolutely nothing to do all day apart from eating and sleeping.

They have those huge parabolic antennas just to get some basic TV channels.

It's freaking hot and humid, there are no air conditioners, and everytime I come here there's someone sick. Last time I came, some 7 years ago, it was me. This time it's my cousin.

It would be nice to take my time, play some games, study some stuff and start my project... but I just can't concentrate with this temperature.

Anyways, one more week to go. Then another bus, 6 more hours, and I'm on the biggest brazilian city (São Paulo), where another "section" of my family lives. Cooler climate, and there's this big japanese neighborhood where I will probably spend a small fortune on imported artbooks, magazines and hopefully, figures.

    Oh, and of course: FOOD.

    Oh, I love those old black&white pictures ^^;

    That is indeed quite different from nasi goreng that we have here in belgium. A lot less egg (in pieces), the vegetables are mixed with the rice, and me takes it with chicken. And that's basically it. Oh, and not to forget, lots of curry!! ^^;

Hmm, need a glass with anime character on it (since I don't drink coffee, but water at work). Now I just have a glass with the kanji 愛 on it.

Keep up the "week in tokyo" series ;p

Vader is cool, of course it would be popular with the girls.

My Astrays don't love me enough to follow me around. *boo hoo*

The ticket stations have come a long way.

I remember the Macdonalds in S'pore trying something similar to the seafood rice burger in this post; the rice in this case didn't stick at all and my meal was scattered to the four winds (read: I am overkilling) in 5 minutes time.

Now I have to stop eating and drinking to save up for a (potential) future trip to Tokyo. Good thing air is free, eh?

bikes are only possible, if the location that you are heading to are within reasonable distance and the risk of being roadkill is not too great.

Right here in Hong Kong, you will rarely see people riding on bike for commuting in midtown area. However there are still some people that use bike as a semi push-cart/ride.

Thanks Danny, I'll Try the skyliner train next time. I took the limousine bus once from Narita to Shinjuku once- never again. That took nearly 3 hours too. I've been taking the Narita express since. But it looks like the skyliner train might be the best way.

i actually prefer the airport limousine to the train; it takes me less than 1.5 hours to get back to Shinjuku from Narita, the ride's reasonably comfortable and your luggage is taken care of. Personal preference perhaps. :]

My past few xmas were spent alone by my own choice... this time I think I'll go with my mom to visit her part of the family.

I always like to see my uncles, cousins and other relatives. But my mom comes from a city with like 5000 habitants and almost no technology or even basic things like a pharmacy or a news stand.

Which is pretty awful for someone so tech dependant like me.

Since it's just for a few days, I'm going anyways.
