Looks like the next kit I'm going to make is one of a Uesugi Kenshin Samurai sword ^^;
These 1/3 scale swords are popular with Dolfie owners so I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and acquire one for Aoi-chan.

I thought they were going to be easy to make but the string that wraps around the handle looks like its going to take a bit of time to do...
Do you make any other kits apart from Gunpla?

Thanks to HLJ for the sample where you can get them for 2,000 yen each.

    I built one of those sword kits years ago. Interesting to see they are still around. Binding the grip is the trickiest part, but the result is very realistic. You may want to paint the bright plated parts with gloss acrylic varnish slightly tinted with black or brown acrylic - this protects the plating and tones down the brightness - no Japanese sword had chrome fittings that I know of!

        weakness is we can't really mod the sword to look sharper on the edges as that will damage the coating.... and those point that connects the sword to the... what do u call it, the outer frame? will leave a mark (like bandai gunpla HyakuShiki)
        nevertheless looks like good. maybe some pro plamo builder can make it look even cooler? =P

          It might be possible to get the look of a sharpened edge using strategically placed paint. The hard part would really be making sure the paint sticks to that surface.

      Boford used to make very detailed 1/6 samurai weapon replicas including katanas. The blades are solid metal. They were sold in a pack of 16 under the product name MONONOFU. One pack/volume costs over 7000 yen and you can't buy them separately from most online stores. Unfortunately, Boford has stopped producing after the 8th volume released early last year.

      http://www.boford.co.jp/html/mononofu08.html

      I've always wanted to get one of these 1/6 katanas too but I don't wish to buy the entire volume.

    I was never into Gundams, so naturally I don't build kits of them. Actually, I don't usually use kits at all these days; most of my own sculptures are built from scratch using polymer clay. Very time consuming, but it gives me much more control over pose, clothing, expression, etc. I would like to get in to resin kits, though, if I had the money. Which I don't. ^^; In the meantime, I'll just make a bunch of knickknacks in my jewelry and metalsmithing class.

    Looks like a beautiful kit Danny. If it's anything like the real ones the wrapping on the tsuka is a pain to do. I've put together different kits. Planes, automobiles, tanks, mostly tabletop wargame models. Still have some mecha I haven't got round to assembling yet.

    Honestly, I've never even heard about a sword plamo....
    I thought we just put up the sword and put together the hilt, but it looks like it's more than that!
