Girls with Swords

Good news for those who said you prefer girls with swords in a recent poll - looks like more n more Japanese ladies are taking up the sport of samurai sword swishing...

Fuji TV news reports on how sword fighting classes are becoming popular among young women in Japan:

Their reporter joins one of the 2-hour classes to investigate. The class starts with some demonstration fights. After practicing basic movements, swords are passed out to the students so they can try out some techniques. At the end of the lesson, studen use what they learned to act out a sword battle scene.
Apparently it’s a good workout and helps improve posture.

So the takeaway here for the lads is - please be serious when going into a relationship with a lady - or risk having your dolphin sliced off if you play two timing.

        Reminds me of this girl that I know who's a karate black belt. She looks timid and shy, and I didn't know she was a black belt until I heard she came in third or sth in the province tournament. Her hands are considered legal weapons ^^;

video above is NOT Kendo, as kendo uses 竹刀(shinai) and is more oriented toward sport: getting point by landing successful hit
it doesn't really seem like iaijutsu/iaido either (the art of drawing sword out of its sheath)
probably some basic kenjutsu with shinken... doesn't really seem strong in the video, and doesn't really help in self defense (as you don't usually bring swords around, do you?) but definitely serve as a way to maintain health, and
point from the post above: posture
yes, at least training with those kamae will help in straightening body posture, and women look better when they maintain a good back/shoulder posture. =) trust me in this one, one of the reason I see women taken from the back in eromanga seem better than in some AV from the same perspective (most of the time anyway)

Shinai is just for sparring. Kata are done with bokken or swords (usually bokken though).

I thought kendoka do their suburi practice with shinai too? I've never learned any kendo, though. using bokken for kata does make sense though :)

This year I read in a newspaper in Turkey a women who suspected of his husband cheating on her, has cut the dolphin of his husband while he was sleeping and throw the part to a rooftop of course the weapon was not a sword it was a basic knife. Nevertheless we gotta have caution even while sleeping lol.

They're learning kenjutsu in the video. Granted it's not useful if you're not carrying a sword with you, but you substitute a bat nicely for all of the techniques. That being said, learning how to use the samurai sword is awesome for upper body strength and range of motion.

They're not really learning kenjutsu. More like for fun and workout. Still, those swings might come in handy in self-defense situations.

it's not a bad idea.... I mean, it does give people focus, and it helps shape up a bit... I would think Kendo is much more wide spread, and Aikido is much more beneficial to a woman... But meh, cutting things with something sharp is fun... However, becareful.. when they get pissed, they might cut you up...

Eheh pretty cool especially the first demo. The reporter was a bit too slow in her movement in the re-enactment scene though. One can escape a dolphin massacre easily that way =P

Cool! I wish I could find kendo around here; it looks like fun. Still, this is making me miss fencing. Must go to fencing club next week.

I used to train in iaido, and we never had a female student, even though the judo class had several. I never joined the MSU Kendo club when I was in college because they met when I had to work. When I get a job, I will be joining a group.

I must admit that girls with swords are rather...Nice. :)

I am in Iaido right now and we have a couple of girls (that I know of) in our class. They're all pretty nice and not very Tsundere either. Which is nice because a real Tsundere girl with a sword just seems kind of scary...

Looks like a lot of fun, hope they don't swing a katana at my tra la la. I wish my school had a fencing club or kendo club.

Practising iaido will grant you better posture etc, but only if rigour or discipline is actually demanded of the students.

Don't see any of that, just lots of playacting and swinging.

I guess iaido dojos must be really hard up for money these days.
