The head of a health promotion research center in the Gifu prefecture made a statement on the current decline of abortions among teenagers and reduced sales of condoms...

"Young men not having sex is one of the main reasons. They don't want to get hurt (dumped by human girls) so never advance past 2D girls." (source)
For newcomers to the site - 2D refers to the girls that you see in the photos of this article, and 3D refers to girls that you see in the Idol section (humans).

For guys out there who are addicted to 2D girls - will you advance to 3D girls or stay on 2D?
BTW, these photos were taken at the last comike - doujin by Tsurukiya. I miss the Geass girls orz.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

don't think 2D is a better substitute for a real sex with 3d girls. I'll take those idols any day, provided they're willing to accept me. lol!

I don't get it... That's like asking a puppy, do you prefer a picture of bacon bits, or a real bag of them? [It's BACOOOOONNN! hehe]

I would imagine they all prefer the real thing, but they are either cowards or they are just giving up.

I gave up drinking and smoking years ago, but I'll be damned if I ever give up on the ladies. :]

(One of the reasons why Japan birth rate fell?)

As for the reasoning line above, I always felt that way, but I also considered females' feelings. I'm also open to go for 3D whenever. I'm ready now. Hope it's not too late. *laughs and sighs*

The bacon analogy is not quite right, since obviously the only thing you want with a piece of bacon is to eat it. Therefore there is absolutely no way for drawn bacon to be superior to real bacon.

Girls on the other hand are different. 2D girls can be drawn to fit one's ideal of perfection. The fact that they are forever unreachable is a trade-off, and some people find it to be a good deal. That is why they prefer 2D to 3D.

And on another note, I consider idols to be closer to 2D. They fulfil certain criteria of a "perfect" girl and at the same time are almost as unreachable as 2D girls. It's the same basic mentality.

I've been hurt by females before.. it's true that I don't want to experience that again, but there's more to it than just that. People have more developped tastes these days, and expect the same from their partners. Expectations are higher while demands are more specific. Of course that makes it harder to find a suitable partner. There are no girls that enjoy anime, games and my music the way that I do. We wouldn't have much in common.. we'd do our seperate things.

I voted for 2D only. I'm not against 3D, but I just don't see it happen unless I give up everything I love.

3D girls in pictures on the internet aren't much different than 2D girls drawn in pictures on the internet. Still unrealistic and unattainable. Yes, there is a slim chance one could meet up with an idol, porn star, etc. but it's very unlikely.

That being said, 2D is cool as long as you don't give up real 3D.

Most people will never admit they prefer 2D to 3D, even to themselves... much less on a blog.
I don't have a girlfriend now... I have maybe some possibilities around, but also very very very high standards.
Some girl-friends said I'll end up dying alone because of this.

But I treat 2D and 3D like completely different things.
What I feel watching 2D animation will never be achieved by 3D girls, and the experiences I had with 3D girls will never be achieved on 2D animes.

I love both, and unfortunately there can be times you can only choose one.

For now, I'm enjoying 2D. And though I really miss 3D sometimes, I'm not in a hurry, or desperate to change the situation...

@D_Blade: Lol, its never too late! Its sad to hear people saying they dont think they will find a REAL (I just cant call them 3D, sorry) girl that likes the same things they do (Keats). Maybe its just the area where I live, but my gf loves anime and even gets excited about me painting and working on my models. We also both like riding motorcycles (yes, she has her own) and even like similar food. It took a loooooong time to find her, and I had to date a LOT of girls, but I did. So.. dont be afraid, who cares if it doesnt work out? There are tons (or tonnes in metric) girls out there just waiting to be seduced. Plus, the sex with a real girl is soooo much better than 2D. Sorry, but those of us who have had it know its true (unless they are bad at sex.. which happens unfortunetly.. sigh.. some girls just need training)

All this talk about "fear" and being afraid is rather insulting. I've only liked cartoons all my life*, and I'm pretty certain I wasn't afraid of being rejected when I was six years old. If I live my life the way other people say I should, it wouldn't be fair to whoever I end up in a relationship with.

    @DRAGUN: What is the most annoying part is to see one you like being closer to you with time but already being with someone else. I never charge blindly and I'm not a partisan of cheating. The hardest part but the best is to go alone, search without forcing self and suffer a bit. ^^;;

Compatibility of hobbies is secondary, unless it becomes an open source of conflict... Better be sure of certain details before proceeding into a long-term relationship. Otherwise it comes back at you and everybody should know that can hurt quite a bit.

I'm glad you're having a happy life and that you've found the one. Really.

I'd have to go with 2D here. This part of the world seems to have not yet caught up to modern interests, so I just plain don't understand most people around here. Everyone here has such simple interests.

Seriously, go on any dating site and look up girls in Kelowna, BC, Canada. Every single one of them will have nothing but camping, horseback riding and "hanging out" in their interests...how plain. >.>

    hmmm...
2d girls and idols are about one in the same in my book. its all about fantasy really if you think about it... the 2d girl or the girl you will only see in pictures or on video most likely.

...and i don't want to hear this crap about otaku not being able to get girls... that is all in your head. i've never had a problem.

how about going out of the house every now and again and popping in at the local pub with the rest of the world.

come on... abortion and birth control are headed down!!! come on guys, lets see what we can do to knock that number up a bit (lol)!!!

That is a lol fact. We guys do have it tough. As for me, one knows when 2D is better than 3D and vice versa.
Though, shouldn't it be 4D since the girls we know "grow" with time? It makes life good, right, amirite? I say go ahead an embrace the next girl you see to remind you how good it is to be able to have both. At first there was nothing, then there was bust (and other goodies, lol).

@D_Blade: I agree, liking someone that is dating someone else is hard, and cheating and unfaithfulness is no way to start a relationship, or end one for that matter. Although, sometimes one must realize when someone is worth it and steal them away. I have done this, usually to the benefit of all parties involved. It seems crude, but fate only takes you part way, the rest is up to you.

I agree that there are many intrinsic properties in a relationship that cannot be summerized by common interests. I have dated many women that do not share my hobbies or interests. This does not prevent a certain attraction that can sometimes seem contradictory.

I hate to disagree with D_Blade, but most girls are looking for just a few simple things.
    1. Something to fix. If you are too perfect, women get annoyed.
    2. Something different, new and dangerous.
    3. Feeling like they are special. If you stop doing this, usually thats when the relationship stops.

... OH! and dont eat HALIBUT!

I agree that honor is important. But what is more honorable; leaving the woman that you care about in a useless relationship that will never go anywhere with someone who wont be the best possible person for her? or plan B, steal her away and stop her from all that pain. Hmmm... I agree, B is much harder. Or.. maybe the first one is. Who knows?

I can understand the feelings of finding solace in 2D women, actually. Real women are a freaking hassle for some of us out there. I don't have the time, money, looks or charm that women look for, so I'm essential roughing a hurricane with a leaky boat and a broken paddle.

2D women, on the other hand, don't have ugly personalities. (At least not the ones I worship.) Besides, I've never met any woman who was even half as perfect as the 2D women I fascinate over. I'll wait for the perfectly cute and innocent girl to come along, then maybe I'll try this 'dating real women' thing again for kicks.

I understand the reason for not going for 3D women. 'Real' women, depending on the girl are a hassle. You have to get the signals and play mind games, it's total crap. But in the end, once you get that 3D girl, it's something golden. So, both 2D and 3D has some great positive sides, but also there's some cons. I don't know...

Me I think that 2D and 3D has their Pros and Cons. With 3D girls you can talk to them,Have sex with them, they can comfort you whenever your sad,However the Cons she can just use you,Cheat on you,Not give you a chance just because of the way you look or what you like.2D Pros you don't have to lower your standards,Their your fantasy ,They'll never cheat on you, they never age,They never have to do #1 or #2 in the Bathroom, they can have wonderful faces bodies and personalities altogether,But the cons are you cannot talk to them, they cannot give you companionship, they can't comfort you.
Me personally think that human females are pathetic because all they care about is money,Muscles and such all that overrated crap.I choose 2D since I just love anime girls and I hope someday they'll make a Fu$kable anime love/sex doll with AI that you can marry.Oh that'd be a dream come true.

Some of these comments make me weep. I'm a girl who loves and respct anime in a huge way. And I can say for sure that I know I like it a hell of a lot more than most guys I've ever met, even at anime cons. But to heard that guys would give up 3D girls for their 2D doodles; that's just... wow. I'm honestly amazed and saddened.

Like a lot of people had said there's pros and cons for both sides. But I don't think a 2D picture can cook you any meals or clean up your laundry. 2D girls can't hug you back or kiss you back. They're stationary flat creations of pen and ink. A 3D girl has warmth, talent, emotions, and cooking skills!

I'll vote 3D any day! Though I enjoy 2D girls and boys as much as the next person, maybe even more, there's nothing that can replace a relationship with a real living human. Life is about risk, lessons and adventures. And when people get afraid to do any of that it really has me worried about the future.

And advice to guys... I think your all looking in the wrong places or not looking enough. Look past your built oup standards (based on your animu characters) and see that there are tons of single anime-loving girls out there that are in your same position. My room mate is one of them; She thinks she'll never get a boyfriend because she loves anime so much :(

And addendum: The birth rate decline in Japan... I see it asa good thing. Now if only that would happen in America *laugh*

More of this absurd talk of people actually preferring a 2d drawing to a real woman. A 2d drawing can succeed by meeting visual expectations and incorporating all the little fetishes one may have, but it goes no further than that. This all points to insecurity problems and social fears, and has nothing to do with someone honestly answering the poll question. Are you telling me these folks REALLY don't want to have the experience of giving yourself to another? Of having someone to confide in, to treat you like a human being. How about eating dinner with each other, discussing all your similar interests and feelings. Is the prospect of failure, getting hurt, getting turned down so powerful that one will isolate themselves from living amongst humans to fulfill fantasy needs? I guess the answer is yes, and it speaks a lot about our society in general and how much pressure there is to fit in and succeed. Life wasn't always like this, and the ever advancing technology and world is making it even harder to cope with.

I guess it doesn't help that many people think that most people of the opposite sex are distrustful and only looking to have sex and then betray them. Of course there are many people in real life who help further this stereotype, but there are also good kind-hearted people in the world in almost equal numbers.

When you limit the boundaries of what reality and your world are, then you can expect this kind of reactionary behavior to an otherwise normal part of life. (relationships in any fashion)
