Shashin Gosei [写真合成[しゃしんごうせい]] means "Photo Composite." Shashin = Photo, Gosei = Composite.

I've seen these around the internets for a while and only recently came across the creators site - Kimura-san does a good job on his composites and is something I would love to have more time to try out.
Check out more of these at his site.

I have seen comments from folks who think photo composites with figures are naff though - what do you think?

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

    Some look really good and some look really bad. IMO the shots that are more "life like" are much better than the ones of characters looming over cities...

    If "naff" means cliche or cheesy, I'd disagree... Admittedly, some of the compositions work better than others, but some are cute, funny, and even have an intriguing CGI feel to them...

    But overall, impressive! Kinda steals the thunder from my own attempts at photography and Photoshop... ^_^;

    The 3rd/4th image down with the girl sat on the outdoor sink to me is quite a nice picture, has a certain artistic quality to it.

    Wow. I feel most of them blend well and I'm truly impressed in the mecha ones, especially the first, second, seventh and eighth (only count the mecha pics here) as well as the Fate Stay/Night and Asakura Ryouko ones.

    About the one with the girl and the school (third picture of the batch), I don't think it's a good idea for her to stick her rear on such a shabby-looking sink. Love this picture otherwise. XD

    These are excellent! The trick appears to be to get the same lighting on the figure as appears in the photo of the scene - which must be the most difficult part to get right, even if exposure of selected parts can be adjusted in PS. Maybe I'll try it one day...

    some of the photos work well, but others don't.

    The mecha ones come off particularly badly because the plastic look really shows up and is at odds with the photo. The figures fare much better tho...
