Minamike Okaeri

Love the Minamike girls. Season one was epic, season two artwork was disappointing but watchable because the seiyuu were the same and some of the episodes were interesting.

Decided to give season 3 Okaeri a whirl. Started off OK. Probably interesting for folks who wondered what Japanese folks do at shrines for new years.
The all of a sudden the animation quality took an incredible leap off one of the tallest cliffs imaginable - the story line disappeared too. Became unwatchable after the commercial break.
Quite disappointed at what that studio has done to the lovely Minamike girls.

Would have preferred that they run season one again instead. OP Music is nice though.

Minamike season 1 below to remind us of the good ol days.

I watched the first season, then gave the 2nd season a try but couldn't continue on due to the new artwork and the fact that it didn't give me much of a laugh since the first season. After hearing some stuff about the 3rd season, seems like I'm not going to give it a try >.<

Yeah, nothing has even been able to match up to Season 1's quality. Why did Season 1's animation team not take up the following season? Did they ever give a reason?

Season 3 is still a maybe for me. But mostly leaning towards not. The quality just seems so disappointing, and the characters look pretty lifeless.

This is what studios probably fear the most when making new seasons. They have to come up with a new storyline, new characters, etc, while still maintaining the good values of the first season if it was any good. I'd give give season 3 a shot. Who knows, maybe it'll make a giant U-turn and be the anime it once was.

Why did they decide that the season2 art team would do season3 as well? I haven't seen anyone actually liking the new art-style better than the old one, and I bet the studios haven't missed the whine by fans either. Overall, I think this was the absolutely worst decision they could've made... Even a new studio would've been better in my opinion.

Being picky is fine, since these people are supposed to be professionals. They get paid to do what they do, so really, they should be putting a lot more into it than that.

We should be able to expect something that looks better than a elementary school kid's drawing.

Just echoing what most everyone else is saying. HUGE fan of season 1. Watched about three episodes of season 2 before I couldn't stand it anymore. I'm kind of afraid to watch season 3, thinking it will be more of the same.

And it isn't just the animation quality that makes season 1 better; it's the entire package. I just loved how they timed some of the music with the situations to bring out some truly hilarious moments. The first time they brought out Mako-chan had to been the most I've laughed at an anime perhaps ever.

It's too bad that the producers just couldn't leave a good thing alone. :(

Yea the animation is not so great, but I enjoyed it. Seriously, what storyline? It's pretty much minami-ke randomness and I got a few laughs out of it. That's what counts right? People are bitching way too much about the artwork. (I didn't even notice a few those mistakes if there weren't any screen shots taken) Give it a few more episodes please then start bitching -_____-

Just watched the first ep, the animation was a fail, but I generally liked it. Maybe it turns out well after all.

I thought that the animation looked a bit dodgy when I saw the commercial promo for S3. I loved S1 and also enjoyed S2, but wasn't a huge fan of the change in animation style.

Will definitely give it a whirl, really hope it's not too disappointing otherwise it'll ruin Minami-ke forever.

Hey you guys should seriously try watching season 3. Its pretty good, despite the slightly shoddy artwork that appears sometimes. Its quite like season 1 though not as good, but better than the non-existent season 2.

Don't judge things by how others judge it, instead judge it for yourself and give it a try. (Sorry if I come off as being too preachy)

    Oh dear! 0_0

I'm still grabbing the episode to watch it since I not home on Mondays. Was looking forward to "Minami-ke" but if the art is that bad... I fear the worst.

Alas I do not understand Danny's and everyone else's dislike of season two "Minami-ke Okawari", the animation quality was just as good as season one, even better in some parts. Sure the style was different but it wasn't bad, it grew on me quite fast.

The original Minami-Ke season 1 was based off the manga by Koharu Sakuraba. However, by the second season all the material from the mangas were spent and my guess is Sakuraba didn't have much part in the scripts for that and season 3. I think now they're basically relying on the nostalgia from Season 1 to keep viewers as they are cutting down production values and slaying the plot and potential for the series. They're probably just pumping them out hoping people will watch.

Btw, Danny Choo you should make it so that we can upload our own avatars. That'd be nice.

I can't believe Chiaki didn't say "Baka-yarou"...The "Baka-yarou four hit combo" was an instant classic from season one.

  • I'm putting on the watchlist simply because it is minami-ke -- or rather ep1 was just too great to ignore subsequent season despite knowing how it'll probably fail.
